I am a little worried about Maye. He could get all our bigs in major foul trouble and be really productive in the half court game. If UNC decides to slow down and doesn't play their usual pace, they should be better than us in a half court style game and Maye would be a big part of that.
However, it really does come down to your first point. If Jared is better than White, none of this other stuff matters much. UNC will have a hard time beating us while losing that particular matchup.
they don’t have a point guard on their roster worth a shit... White isn’t a true point guard... he’s great in transition, but he’s a score first guy and isn’t going to facilitate in the half court... he’ll facilitate on the break like a mad man... but Maye is probably more dangerous creating shots for White in the halfcourt than vice versa
but, if there’s one thing our guards can do it’s pressure the ball man to man - and give White or Woods trouble initiating half court offense
and one thing our bigs can do is use their speed and agility to make it hard to get the ball to your bigs in the spots they want it
now... maybe they’re just too long... and White passes over the top of our guys to Maye in the mid/high post and he just bodies dudes... but I don’t see it... it’s not giving us nearly enough credit on how hard we make teams work to initiate half court offense
they’re going to have to make bad shots to score in the half court - because they’re not going to be able to easily run their usual shit against us... this is not the mismatch on paper that people are expecting
doesn’t mean they can’t demolish us if we have an off night... but they’re going to have to play their best to beat us if we play well... they have to beat us - an average performance from them isn’t going to be enough... the talent gap just isn’t that great
