Could be the insane level of defense Okoro plays.
I am sure that is a big part of it. They must give give deference to seniors as well though. Okoro has been really great on both O and D, but Cooper's numbers are off the charts.

Stretch is still hanging out in Africa. Rodney feels like we’re a bubble team right now. We need to finish strong. Austin will be back next year. No way he’s going to the NBA. He also said we need someone mean on this team. He said their all a bunch of nice guys. We’re really missing DeSean.

Wasn’t Rodney pretty off on the whole Austin saga this past off season? I hope he comes back but I’m not betting on any Rodney inside info

Pickens didn’t let the cat out of the bag to anyone, so I was wrong about Pickens. I’m acknowledging I was wrong. I’m doing so to say this, I don’t think this Rodney cat has a damn clue and isn’t that close to any situation, but it’s not a reflection of AuWaterfowl. He’s just sharing what he is told, but if I was him I wouldn’t take anything Rodney says as “gospel”.

I don't see how any sane person can say we are currently just a bubble team (as of today)

We are currently #20 in NET rankings and #14 in KenPom.

I keep asking people on the Bunker to give an answer on Stretch and no one will. Whole thing seems sketch

Poster on 247, who has had some good info in the past posted this today:

"It isn't anything normal so how would read into that? This isn't NCAA stuff or Auburn stuff. He is back in his home country and trying to get a visa to go to college in the US. That is not the cleanest of processes right now, especially from Nigeria, and is why he had to return home and was not able to enroll in August or January this past year. Everyone is hopeful he will arrive this summer. Trying to come in earlier is what got him messed up with the US immigration and paperwork system."

I don’t understand the thing with Stretch bc getting an international student visa should not be hard or abnormal. My brother was on the AU swim team and I’d honestly say that around 30 to 40 percent of the people on that team were from over seas. One of the best AU women’s swimmers was from Zimbabwe too I believe so it’s not just an Africa thing either. Really weird

I have to assume that someone saying we are bubble team has to do with them predicting how we finish. That's what Jerry Palm says when people question him about any of his predictions, but I have no idea.

Yeah this whole thing is fuggin ridiculous. I briefly researched this like a nerd and my understanding was there’s no reason you’d have to leave or couldn’t enroll even if the visa is expired. It would only be an issue if you actually left and tried to re-enter the country. Which of course he now has but surely Boog Admins couldn’t have royally screwed up or anything....

Okoro is such a beast. He plays with the aggression it’s take until now for Chuma to start showing glimpses of. Really hope chuma returns as those two playing together will be a load for anyone to try and stop.

It sounds like somebody wants to get PAID. Whether it’s a Nigerian govt Official or someone else and they’re holding him ransom. This stuff happens sometimes when Big European soccer clubs try to sign a young African player from a poor town

Well let us know where we need to send our venmo payments. We need Stretch's defense at the 5.

Flanigan appears to have been a diamond in the rough we lucked into by virtue of his dad. The highlights I have watched on him are very impressive. I would be interested to know how big of a jump he made in height/skill set over the last 18-24 months. He appears to be a guy who will be able to really help us. He could turn out to be the next Bryce in terms of coming out of nowhere to be a major contributor.

lulx, I just realized we didn't sign Pickens. Smart kid.

Damn I used to be interested in Obbern. Maybe in 3-4 seasons the next coach can turn it around. It'll take 2-3 years of real SEC OL recruitment though.

Anyhoo, hopefully between last year's class and next we'll make a big leap forward. This might Bruce's toughest recruiting year (not including the first) with expectations we might not meet, imo.

My stars what a group. Expect all these HYGs to contribute next year. Although who knows if Stretch is ever gonna return stateside or if he’s seen a basketball in the last year.

Perfect world Jvon, Danjel, Samir and Austin leave. Jared and Chuma stay.

Enter Shariffe, a physical 4 that can shoot the 3 and a long, athletic veteran 5 that isn’t made of glass. Would kill for a Kavell Bigby of LSU clone. Actually maybe Austin can stay in this scenario if it didn’t preclude us from getting another big.

Something like this:
1. Jared, Shariffe, Turbo
2. Okoro, Flanigan, Johnson
3. Chuma, Okoro
4. Chuma clone, Williams
5. Kavell BW clone, Mac, Austin, Stretch

I don’t know that’s the dream. Actually if we just get everybody back except Danjel and replace him with a more rugged 4 that could play a little 5 that’s still a squad that can cut the nets in April. Maybe Mac could be that guy and we just add an athletic big.

1. Jared, Jvon
2. Samir, Jones, Johnson
3. Okoro, Flanigan
4. Chuma, Williams
5. Austin, Mac, Stretch, some stud TBD

Yes this would do. Obviously wouldn’t love Samir penciled in to start but 13 deep would have endless possibilities.

in my perfect world:

Jared
Sharife
Okoro
Chuma
Grad Transfer

JVon, Tyrell, Jamal backup guards
Jamal, Flanigan backup 3
Williams, Mac backup 4
Mac, Stretch backup 5

no Samir, no Danjel, no Austin... I love Danjel and Austin but don’t want to depend on them next year... give me a slightly bigger, slightly more polished Horace or Mac to start at the 5 - just a 6’9”, 250 pounder who can run the floor and finish at the rim

backcourt would be tiny, but with the right grad transfer, Jr year Chuma, and Okoro - we’ll be bigger and tougher 3-5 than we’ve been the last 2 years... we’d also be less reliant on the 3 and much more of an attacking, slashing team with essentially 2 break down guards on the court a majority of the time, which would probably result in less Boogin’ but a more consistent offense

That's an impressive roster for next year. Landing Cooper this year would be massive. I do think we are much better off if we have Danjel back next year though. He is already helping us some and has the potential to be a major contributor next year much more so than any frosh other than Okoro (or Cooper if we got him) or likely any grad transfer. And while Austin hasn't helped us lately due to injury, we saw that he could be a major factor for us when he was healthy. Maybe he can't stay on the court a full season, but he is a huge update over any grad transfer 5 when he is on the court.

I wish I could continue to believe in Danjel but sadly I can not. I just don’t think he has what it takes and I don’t like the thought of him coming back expecting to be a leader and an offensive focus.

Have more confidence in Jvon and even Samir being productive although ideally we’d bring in more talented guys than them.

at this point I’ve resigned myself to the idea Austin’s body is never going to allow him to reach his potential... I’d rather have Horace back next year than Austin, because I at least know I’m getting 6 months from someone and can plan accordingly

if Austin is back next year, no one is grad transferring to be the 4th big in the rotation behind Austin, Chuma and Mac... and then when Austin plays 17 games next year and we get bullied relentlessly in conference play and in March, what’s the point of even having him on the roster?

I’ll happily eat crow, but he can’t be relied upon and I’d rather take my chances that 100% health from a guy 70% as talented is better than anything Austin has given us the entire time he’s been on campus or will give us in the future... it’s harsh, but I’m over it

for Danjel, he just needs to get away from Auburn - try to get a clean slate and have 1 big year and hope he can make some money playing ball... he’s not starting over Chuma, and I want good things for Danjel, so for his sake I hope he goes somewhere and has better luck... being the backup 3/4 next year, I mean, if he’s ok with that then like you said, he’s better than the freshmen - so I’d take him back in a heartbeat, but I just don’t think it makes sense for him

Danjel is just a total mental case. Trying to live up to the hype and expectations that Boog nation placed on him and he just feels like he’s disappointing and failing people. I think all his issues are confidence related and a change of scenery/fresh start would definitely benefit him

Unfortunate but true. That being said, he shoots the ball really well. Has been playing better defense and getting after it on the boards more and more. I could see a plausible scenario where he excels here or after a transfer.

He kind of reminds me of Jeremy Johnson with his disappointment and all of his neediness for encouragement on social media. But at least Danjel has put together a decent season where JJ only had one decent half of football. Gus isn’t the type of coach that could nurish JJ’s confidence. Bruce maybe can with Danjel but just doesn’t have the time to do it now during the season. We’ll see. I think what he does ultimately depends on what Chuma decides

so please tell me AU already has all of Stretch's visa and other sh!t in order. I've heard he's a brawler on the boards, which will be a welcome site.
