I don't have a good feeling about how Green's recruitment ends. I think he ultimately ends up playing in Australia for a year. I know he said in an interview about a month ago he was going to college, but the pro talk just isn't going away, which makes me think it's more on the table than we think.

This is just a message to our bagmen to step their game up. Don't let us down Charles!

It kinda feels like Miller and Penny are trying to talk this kid into going pro. Memphis writers are coming out and saying two coaches close to Green have said he's probably going pro. Not sure which coaches a Memphis beat writer would be talking to about Green's recruitment other than Penny and Miller. Maybe a case of them saying his best option is to play overseas if they don't think they're going to land him. Not sure what the motivation for them would be, but this recruitment just seems really weird.

It's so they can say they tried their best and that they couldn't get him b/c he wasn't going to college. Then when he signs elsewhere they can act duped. Being duped by a HS kid misleading you is always better than saying "I got beat recruiting him" for the fans and boosters. They want to believe you'd were kinda cheated out of the kid, and making him the one to blame for misleading you about his intentions make it and easier pitch.

In football its the mysterious "we pulled his offer for off field stuff" that has no basis. You know you are beat, you leak some info that makes it look like you didn't just get beat and then you get to relieve some of the heat coming your way. At least part of every fan base laps this stuff up and gives their HC a pass then.

I don't blame any kid for going pro. Get paid well if you can young buck. Just not sure from a developmental side what helps you more. We don't have a ton of examples of guys skipping college ball and then seeing their NBA stock actually increase. LaMelo Ball not dropping has made it more interesting and I'm sure guys will look at it but it's a risk. He had European pro experience as a HS junior and had basically blown his amateur status at that point and his options got really weird. It also helped have him ready for a great year in AUS by having that pro experience under his belt. If you go there and are just kinda good instead of great you are gonna take a bigger draft hit IMO than if you have the same type of performance here.

Jalen's comments on going pro were really definitive...

“No, I’ve been seeing that and I wanted to let everyone know that’s not an option,” Green said of the pro option after earning MVP honors at the Hoophall Classic following a 26-point, 5-rebound, 5-assist effort in an in a 69-62 win over La Lumiere (IN).

“I’m thinking about college and college only. I’ve been [hearing] that I’m going pro, this and that, no that’s not the case. I’m going to college.”

Green said high school players who opt to go pro do so “if they want to chase the money,” and he instead wants to play in the NCAA Tournament.

“I want to play on a big stage,” he said.

It's possible he is just playing some sort of game, but that doesn't seem like the likeliest option to me. As Jeramye said, it seems more likely Memphis knows they aren't going to get him so they are putting the word out that he is going pro as some sort of means to soften the blow when he signs with us.

That Memphis guy is obviously a honk. Was the only guy who stuck with Chris Moore to Memphis when it became known to everyone else he was a boog lock.

I’m not gonna play with my own emotions and count on this elite stud being here yet but they can all pick ‘pro’ if they think that’s more likely than him being a boog.

yeah. Sounds like some Memphis beat writers are trying to protect Penny from getting shamed for sucking at the one thing he was supposed to be good at (recruiting). Bc as or right now, they have zero signees and if they miss out on the golden goose to anywhere but the pros, then you know the heat is gonna turn on him in an instant. The only thing he's brought them so far is some ncaa turmoil and 8 games or so of James Wiseman.

Yeah, I know he said that, and I’m not doubting the truthfulness when he said it. But that was over a month ago, and we all know how quickly things can change in recruiting. There’s a lot of “incentives” for him to go pro now. He could also gain a lot by coming to college. I just don’t think one provides a significant advantage over the other or impacts his draft status more than the other. It just feels like the pro option is still in play, maybe more than anyone realizes or wants to admit.

What do you base this feeling on? A month ago Jalen definitely said it's not an option. If he or someone close to him said something in the interim that indicates the pro route was in play, that'd be one thing. I don't care about admitting or not admitting anything whether it's positive or negative for our chances. I am just going on the public information. As it stands, he shot down the pro talk and there has been no indication to the contrary other than what appears to be coming from the Memphis coaches. I also doubt all of these national analysts would be projecting him to Auburn if they were hearing credible info he was likely going pro.

I think he feels like he is going to be a top 5 pick regardless of where he plays. Does not seem like a kid who feels he needs to make a little pocket change for one year before he gets his real payday. I think he really wants to play for an NCAA title and is waiting to see which school gives him the best shot at that next year. Probably just the Boog in me, but that’s my stance until he comes out and says I’m re-thinking the pro route.

Multiple national guys at Rivals and 247 have mentioned recently that they believe or have heard from people that the pro option is still a possibility. I just think there’s enough talk from people without a dog in the fight saying it isn’t a done deal to college that it’s worth recognizing and accepting that going pro is a real possibility. And if it is even after he’s said it wasn’t, it makes me think something has changed to make that a more appealing option than it was in January. Just my thoughts on it. I do think, if he goes to college, we’re the school he’s going to pick. Getting him here over seems like the big hurdle now.

The recruiting analysts I have heard comment since Green shot the pro rumor down seem to just be discounting his statement as opposed to relying on some new information that suggests he has reconsidered and is now considering the pro route. It seems more likely to me those people had been saying for a long time he was strongly considering going pro and don't want to acknowledge that either was never accurate or is no longer accurate. If some new info comes out, I'm ready to reevaluate, but right now I think the best info we have is his statement a month ago that left no doubt about going to college.

That tracks exactly with what he said in January. He said he did not want to "chase the money" and wants to play on the biggest stage. Anything is possible and he could decide to go play in Kazakstan, but his comments were as strong of a denial as he could have issued regarding going pro.

I have invested my entire little boog heart into him coming, but I agree with what you're saying. He might want to "shock the world" or he might just be a 17/18 year old kid that changes his mind 100 times.

I'm not going to let myself believe he's coming here till he enrolls in class and is cleared but I still think the pro stuff sounds like the kind of thing 3/4 people just say and then since they are connected in the industry it grows legs and before you now it a lot of "people close to XXX" have been saying this is possible. Just feels like his comments from a month ago, which are by far the most direct thing we have, weigh more than random rumors that we really don't know the origins of. Its like the recruiting version of the telephone game...feels like someone said "well you know it's still possible that he could go pro, that's an option for him" and 3 weeks later we have 12 analysts saying they have heard he may be leaning that way.

I think Memphis is toast. I think Penny was a risky, but fun hire and I can totally see why they made it. But the problem was always that if he lost momentum and didn't prove himself quickly it would tank. They have not a single person signed for this class and no commits for any upcoming classes. Their other best player is gonna go pro cause he's showing up in the lottery area now. If anyone is going to get the hammer from the NCAA it's gonna be them after they played Wiseman and tried to bulldog their way through that one. I don't think this ends well for them or Penny. My only real worry is that we get a letter or something gets announced that sounds ominous and it scared Green and he looks for a safe landing spot.

Good God these guys are the absolute worst. When your audience is bottom of the barrel trash that remotely cares about NCAA rules infractions thats just so pathetic.

As if the NCAA isn’t one of the most unethical, corrupt, overtly racist/ anti simetic institutions. I don’t know why Boogville would tell these guys anything other than to fug off.

Also 69 pages of boog hoops crootin. Nice.

I’m curious if part of Bruce’s reasoning to visit is to discuss the NOA. Maybe he wants to talk to these two recruits specifically in person before that becomes public.
Probably just a chance to travel across the country to see 2 elite studs after a Tuesday home game. I’m guessing any mention of it would have been after his PowerPoint presentation about the fat NBA contract Sir Isaac gonna get after a developmental year in Boogville.

Whether we have gotten an NOA or not, I would assume Bruce has already made sure all the recruits know are not in jeopardy of any serious issue that would impact them like missing the NCAAT next year.
