Boogs coming into the dance on a heater and off one of the best wins in program history. Gotta rest up and travel all the way to Mormon Mecca to play these scrubs from New Mexico on Thursday though.

What do we know about NMST? Nothing other than they’ll get their asses handed to them if AU can continue to play with same intensity and fearlessness they’ve displayed the past two weeks.

The nerds with the espn prediction algorithm give the Boogs an 81% chance to beat these guys. I like the Boogs by double digits to set a showdown of Blue Bloods against Kansas on Saturday.

Legggggoooooo

Aggies have had double digit turnovers in 6 of its last 7 games. Average nearly 12 turnovers per game. I expect that many in the first half.
hah, easy off the kool aid for a minute or two.
we're gonna need to turn them over if our guys aren't shooting well on the road and that has been tough for this team the past 2 years.
The HYGs path is littered w possible blue blood match ups, could be one for the ages IF they keep playing strong D and sinking 3s.

they’re a poor poor mans Auburn

they shoot 28 3’s/gm, but only .335%, so averaging a shade over 9 makes a game... they don’t have any mad bombers though, just a roster full of guys who each shoot 2-4.5/gm...

we shoot 30/gm, at 38%... Jared has made 22 more than anyone on their team, and Bryce has made 34 more than Jared... they’re going to need 3-4-5 guys all shoot it well against the best perimeter guards they’ve faced all year, or have 1 guy go out of his mind and hit 8, to keep up

think of it as - they’ve got 7 or 8 Malik/Samir’s, and it’s hard for those guys to keep up with Bryce and Jared for 40 minutes

their starters are small
5’9” 170
6’1” 175
6’4” 195
6’7” 225
6’7” 230

even the 5 main backups are small
6’0” 170
6’2” 180
6’6” 190
6’7” 225
6’8” 240

they get to the line 20 times a game, but only shoot 67%... we get there 19 times, shoot 71%

they average 2.6 blocks and 5.6 steals, force 13 turnovers... we average 4.8 blocks and 9.4 steals, force 17.6 turnovers... which means we’re looking at 6-7 extra loose ball starts to our break

just from numbers and box score crunching, they’re going to have to play the A game, against easily the best team they’ve seen in 4 months, and we’re going to have to shoot like complete ass, for this to be much trouble

same recipe as the last 3 weeks...

defend, rebound, and run

Thanks for the break down. Good stuff.

Nice breakdown. Its amazing that any expert has us losing this game. Anything is obviously possible. We could play like complete trash and lose. On paper though, this is the best match-up we have faced since North Florida. NMSU has not playing anyone with a pulse since December and they lost to the #165 team in the NET. There is no area where they have an advantage. This is a much better match-up for us than Charleston was last year.

But...but...30 wins. I’m hoping tenacious defense can overcome all else if we go peas porridge cold on the shooting. I don’t see any reason New Mexico State should be scoring a lot. Hell, we just beat a 2-seed TWICE IN THE PAST 5 GAMES to knock them out of championships...

My KU buddy is not at all positive about their chances or team right now. He was trash talking about about an hour via text yesterday before he started talking X's and O's/players. They just don't think they have a very good team this season.

I think that's the best 3/4 seed we could have been paired with. Maybe Purdue, because away from home they've been very mediocre. But the others would scare me more.

I was expecting to see something else when I watched their tape. Seem pretty well coached and execute well vs inferior athletes. Maybe I'm just too accustomed to seeing our superior studs in action and am being too harsh. The teams they are playing against make UAB look like Duke to me.

people hear “WAC Conference” and think of UNLV, Nevada, Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State, maybe even La Tech, etc, but this is a terrible terrible abysmal conference...

Utah Valley
Grand Canyon
UT-Rio Grande Valley
Cal Baptist
Cal Bakersfield
Seattle
UMKC
Chicago State

I mean, Chicago State finished DFL in the NET... they’re so bad they may just shut down the program or drop down to a lower level - and the WAC is so desperate they invited them to join...

30 wins means nothing in this conference other than they won’t be scared or nervous in a close game late

this ain’t gonna be a close game late

Get past NMSU and you probably get blueblood Kansas, blueblood UNC, and blueblood Kentucky. Talk about an opportunity to put yourself on the map. The opportunity to play and potentially knock out almost all of the NCAA basketball royalty in one regional? Yes please!

Kansas - UNC - Kentucky - Tennessee - Duke

and we can sign Gus to a lifetime contract and you will never be able to remove the smile from my face

It is somewhat amazing. I've heard a few analysts refer to their win streak but casually leave out some of their early losses but use games like our loss against NC St back in December as reasoning for us struggling in this game. I do think it's possible that we go 5-30 from 3 and turn it over 25 times, but we haven't really done that in a few weeks now (and even that was a bit of an outlier on the season). Not sure why someone would expect that to happen right now, given our current run of form.

I'm really not worried about this game one bit. I think the young Boogs are riding a giant wave of confidence and proved to themselves (maybe for the first time) that they can play their game on a neutral court for all the marbles. Totally different vibe coming into this tournament then there was last season. Keep playing ferocious D and turn people over, and the Boogs will be in every game they are lucky enough to compete in this tourney

Bruce Court at Pearl Arena in Auburn, AL has a nice ring to it.

But seriously, getting a shot at Kansas and then potentially UNC is just incredible. Some may complain about how difficult the bracket is. Like you said yesterday, I see it as opportunity. These guys can really make a name for this program if they continue this play for another 2-3 weeks. Hopefully, we get to see at least 5 more games.

I guess the only worry I have is with ourselves. Nothing I've seen from NMSU scares me. Us somehow overlooking them or just having a putrid night where nothing goes right for us is my worry. I just want to see them play their best or close to it and don't take these guys lightly. So any and all info Bruce can use to show we've been disrespected and overlooked is great with me. Anything to keep these guys focused on continuing to prove the haters wrong.

I can't see this team coming out unfocused now. Not with the veteran leadership and the way they've come on when it mattered the most. Now a bad shooting night....sure. One of those days where none of our shots fall and the other guys are throwing in bombs that make no sense? If you run into the perfect storm in basketball anything is possible I guess.

You guys should force yourselves to watch the first 10 minutes of the first half of this game. NMSU lost to this team they're playing (Cal Baptist) back in January.

must’ve been that Bobbitt dudes game of his life... he’s got 14 in the first 7 minutes and averages 4.7 for the year

that’s what I was talking about earlier... if they get a random game like that from some scrub, then sure, they’ve got a chance... but that’s what it’s going to take
