Agree. I have watched some of a couple of their games. They don't have a single area where they have an advantage over us. 2 of their 3 losses this year came in games where they got less than 10 turnovers. We combined for 6 in our last 2 games against clubs that are infinitely better than the aggies. They also turn the ball over and are very sloppy at times. They shoot a ton of 3s but only make 31%. We are going to need to defend the perimeter and keep them from shooting above their season average. I do not think we will need to shoot the ball particularly well to beat them. We can score in the paint and St. Mary's little white PG ate them up in transition. J should have these guys spinning 5 minutes into the game. This is as good of a matchup as we could have hoped for on paper, imo.Haven’t gotten a chance to break down the tape but just perusing this squad I’m feeling pretty good. They got no length. No shot blockers. Hell Jared and Bryce may have a size advantage for the first time ever.
So basically this NM St club is gonna have to out athlete, outhustle, out depth and out shoot us to have a chance? No.

this is completely anecdotal, but it seems to me the best chance for upsets are when an underdog plays a completely different style than the favorite and is able to bend the game to their will and win by forcing the favorite to do things they’re not comfortable with or as good at as the underdog
underdogs don’t beat favorites who play their same style, only with bigger, more talented players
if they were playing Kansas State, I’d love their chances... sucks for them they’re playing BRUCE AND THE HYG’S
Saw some comments from the NMSU big man, Eli Chuha. He said one of the biggest differences between the teams was shot blocking ability. They don’t block many shots. Gotta think a big part of our plan is to drive the basket and feed the ball inside early to Chuma. Harper should be able to finish at the rim much easier than he has at times in conference play if they play M2M.
I think we will see a fair amount of zone from NMSU since we’ve shown the offense can struggle diagnosing zones, which slows us down and forces us to get into plays late. I bet they’ll try to slow the game down some and dictate the pace. They’ll run when it benefits them, but I don’t think they’ll try to outrun us.
one thing that could potentially cause us trouble that I’ve been meaning to mention but haven’t is how much - and how quickly - they double team the post
they don’t do it every game - but in some games they’ve doubled religiously and ferociously... Chuma will have to be ready to react quickly and I’m not sure he’s ready for that... Austin should be a little more familiar with it... Horace and Mac will be lost if they double - although I’m not sure why you’d double either of them
one benefit will be - even if they double, they won’t be doubling with size, so as long as it’s diagnosed quickly enough we should be able to pass over and out of it... but that’s reqlly the only thing they can throw at us defensively that could cause us issues... any other offensive issues will be of our own doing
The biggest positive I see in them doubling Chuma in the post, aside from leaving a shooter open on the perimeter somewhere, is I think he’s a great passer from the post. Wiley isn’t as good, but his size should help him pass out of the doubles. I do agree it’s a concern that Chima’s never really dealt with a double much while here.
The more I think about it the more I think Harper is going to have great success getting to the rim on ball screens and disrupting their defense with dribble penetration. If Harper can consistently break them down, I think they’re in for a world of hurt.
Great way to describe it. I had forgotten what GAMEDAY felt like, I'm staying home so I can pace and curse. As nervous this morning as I used to get when hut-hut had a big SEC tilt on the schedule for the day. Been knocking out some work stuff since 6am so I can completely check out at noon.
Wanted to go somewhere to watch the HYGs impress a crowd but may be too anxious to be out in public today.
Yeah that's what I'm leaning towards. Got a 10am conference call and I'm not gonna be willing to go anywhere after that. Too anxious and I'll want to pace and yell and act a fool in the comfort of my home.Great way to describe it. I had forgotten what GAMEDAY felt like, I'm staying home so I can pace and curse.
