OT: AD Search

Quick shot but seems like a solid hire.

AU56 is on my list of Top 10 worst epersonas in Bunk history.

Slightly worse than Tallassee, imo

Yea. Those are two of those that are universally hated by D&Gs, SSPs, and all those in between. Not many can pull that off but those two can.

But tallassee's still probably ranks #1 on worst of all time.

Hired a nobody from Buffalo?

Something I actually agree with you on

- Never hired or fired ANY coach
- Crowing achievement is breaking ground on an indoor practice facility in BUFFALO. HOW TF IS THERE NOT AN INDOOR FACILITY AT THE NORTH POLE ALREADY
- 2 years AD experience

I assume we had everyone tell us “No” and scrambled for this guy.

I will say his fundraising prowess will be very useful.

Young, sharp, and energetic. Hopefully he develops into who we need

Congrats @L I G E R you got the @charlie5 seal of approval. What a ringing endorsement. I’ll have to do a little more research on this dude before I present my take, but it looks like a solid hire on the surface.

I like him because hes got zero connections or loyalties to anyone in Auburn. That was my #1 wish.

I like him because hes a good looking black man which is a huggggeeeee improvement for the university image wise over a fatass old corrupt white grandma lookin dude that loves funnel cake.

I don't like him because he is massively under qualified for this job and that means growing pains.

He's the Gus Malzahn of AD hires.....better than a chizik, better than jacobs...so.

6/10.

Can somebody tell me the boog board is reacting? I bet all those old white dudes are loving it.

Actually it seems pretty widely lauded as a great hire. I’m probably one of the few that’s raised questions

Nice try though

I'm fine with this part, it's a roll the dice hire but that's soooooo much better than getting someone from the Jacobs network or other GOB network to come in. We desperately needed fresh blood with no ties to anyone and IMO at least, ESPECIALLY needed someone who doesn't see their career needing to end at AU in order to be successful. Jacobs biggest issue was that he saw no path to any other AD jobs and wanted no other AD jobs so his only focus was staying in power and in good graces of powerful people at AU. A non-AU tied AD can buck the power brokers if he wants, as long as his reputation in the AD world is good enough that he can keep moving on and up.

He's young and unproven but lauded by people inside that AD world as an up can coming guy. We're either getting 1 of 2 guys based on that:

1 - guy who is charismatic and thus good with fundraising but whose reputation as an up and comer is basically because he knows what to say (buzzwords yeah!!!) and will turn out to be "standard AD" with nothing really great or nothing really horrible in the end. Just a basic executive type with no huge downsides but also no creative or risky ideas that might help us overcome some of our built in issues. He will always hire committees to make all his decisions and like many AD's, he lives and decides every day in ways that protect his next paycheck first and foremost.

2 - guy who is hyper motivated, extremely driven, out to prove that he can do this job and become a monster player in the field and one of the biggest names in these jobs. Thinks outside the box, takes risks because he likes big payoffs and trusts his instincts. May swing and miss sometimes, but isn't scared and won't let a few power brokers sway him into more conservative, less risky positions when he is convinced he's right. Think young Jeremy Foley, before he got all rich and comfortable.

Flip a coin...who knows which one we got but it's certainly better than funnel cake man.

here’s a nice overview:

http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2018/01/who_is_allen_greene_auburn_ad.html

Found this to be the most interesting:

Greene was instrumental in fundraising at Buffalo, conjuring up donor support for the athletics program and helped spearhead a master plan for facilities upgrades as well as lead projects that included football turf replacement, the Buffalo Sports Medicine Center, the Murchie Family Football Center and a premium seating section at the Bulls' stadium that was unveiled in 2015.

Master plan something ol bumble hick JJ could never figure out. Inexperienced but likely not a bible thumping redneck so I’m pleased.

I don’t like the hire.

He seems intelligent based off the schools and degrees. But he will be learning on the job. If he was white he doesn’t get hired. His big positive is he is black and an outsider. But as far as experience goes, Turner Gill was more qualified to be our HC than Greene is to be our AD.

He may be great, one day. But he isn’t great yet. So he is like Gus. Why are we always learning on the job? That woman from the NFL seems to me would have been a ballsy hire that meets the bunker’s need to be progressive.

So my main issue is “he is better than what we had” (no shit, who wouldn’t be) and he is just so inexperienced.

So it is a cute headline. “Auburn hires the 3rd ever Black Athletic Director”. Okay. Great! But I wish there was more substance that. It is like hiring a guy that built 2 small spec homes ever to build a 40,000 sq foot custom mansion over looking the Pacific Coast for Tim Cook. Could he do it? Sure, but would be very inefficient and would make a lot of mistakes and would take a very long time. Would it be better to have a guy that has taken on a project anywhere in the sphere of that? Yes.
