OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

It’s interesting but I don’t take much from it. So the game before was NC St Austin was great. Austin and Mac were both good against Murray. N FL game is meaningless. Both sucked against OM. Yesterday Mac was a stud so that’s probably the difference.

In general our ceiling is higher the way Ant plays but our floor is higher with Austin. I don’t think it makes a ton of difference who starts just gotta go more with what’s working game by game. Biggest takeaway on this is we need more Malik.

Austin also leads in TO per 100 possessions

He only has 10 less TO than Sweet Baby Jared and has played 250 minutes less than him

I agree our ceiling is higher with AM and AW gives us the lowest floor. We just aren’t close to being as explosive on offense when he’s in the game and we turn the ball over more.

Tricky sitch for BP but I feel good that we go dom the faggies Wed and get back on track

So apparently Danjel was posting on Facebook last night insinuating that he’s gonna transfer. Dude would be buried on the bench again next season too so it’s probably best for his ego to leave

Gang what do we make of Austin having the lowest +/- on the team at 4.7?

It has steadily declined over the last 4 games

Our top 4 are:

Charming Chuma 12.8
Stunning Samir 9.3
Mandingo Malik 8.9
Agile Anfernee 8.4

Coincidence Austin was put in starting lineup about the same time as our decline?

The problem in my eyes is that Austin is good, but not that crazy level dominant that some bigs are (unless the other team doesn’t defend the post well). So he isn’t good enough to change the way we attack people, but he is good enough to be a crucial force down low for us. I did notice that he did a better job of looking at his surroundings yesterday so that if he was doubled he could kick out. But he still had one possession that he missed the help and it resulted in a turnover. I think with Austin it’s all going to be about matchups. Yesterday was tough on him defensively because when there big got in foul trouble, Claxton was the 5 and Austin just can’t guard someone like that.

Also denim mentioned the lack of zone which you would think would help Austin, but for some reason we just really struggle rebounding out of our zone looks.

Yeah he could still do a lot of things better. Then again pretty much everyone in the rotation is good for a dumb TO every game.

I mean I’m taking peak Ant from last year over Austin all day but Ant gets bodied and bullied sometimes so it’s nice to have a bruiser that can come in and just own the block. We still need to get better at how we get the ball into Austin. He’s gotta get better at getting to his spot and passing back out when he gets doubled or pushed out.

I don’t put any stock in individual plus/minus... it’s such a flawed way to judge someone

5 man lineup combos is a much more telling stat, but still unreliable over such a small sample size considering the level of competition differences

I wouldn’t even look at plus/minus until 6-8 games into SEC play, and only then in 5 man lineup combos

Stayed in my car & was 20 minutes late getting into the office listening to BRUCE on JOX this morning (Can't imagine a scenario of doing that for gus unless he was stepping down) & got a few cliffs:

Said Dick Vitale is coming to town Saturday for Kentucky, NOT for the Boogs & did a very nice impersonation job. When asked about our #13 ranking, said we are not a Top Twenty squad at this time.

When asked about the OM game, explained the 11 day layoff by saying we weren't in the Big Twelve Challenge PLUS our conference schedule was given to us too late to pick up another game (Boogs not getting to open on the first Saturday & all). Also repeated the part where it's hard to imitate the speed & action of great teams in practice.

Really stressed that Danjel has done nothing wrong and continues to be a team player. Said he will have his chance, but is still 3-deep at the 3 & 4 & it's not fair to the guys in front of him to get minutes when that's all that it would be. Says he needs to stay positive like he has been.

When pressed on the crowd for the UK game, he acknowledged that UK is still a big deal, but the Clam is pretty much crazy for wins in all games. There were comments on how hard it is to get a ticket, and he says that we are trying to add something to the table between huthut & Spring huthut (BRUCE being BRUCE).

There was more, but I got sidetracked by a sales meeting, so THE END.

So the boogs dropped to #16. Which isn’t horrible. Not that the polls matter but just shows that everybody loses. Just not playing the top 5 ball we all expected. Couple wins this week would go a long way. 6 SEC clubs in the top 25.

A lot of people gave us credit for playing UK tough. They got a huge bump out of that win. Seth Davis from the Athletic still had us ranked 10th after the loss. We can't keep going 1-1 every week though. Really need to reel off 5 wins in a row heading into the road game @LSU.

Yeah that would be nice. I’m not feeling too hot about either game this week. 4-1 during that stretch is a must though.

Mississippi State has not be great of late and that should be the toughest game in this stretch. Tomorrow night is definitely a must win unless we want to end up being a bubble team. 5-0 will certainly be tough though.

PSA Inside Boog Hoops is on SECN. Re-airing in a couple hrs. Bruce and these HYGs still beautiful even if they couldn’t close out the W Saturday.

I am still hoping we can finish 5th and play very well in the SECCT in preparation for (hopefully) a short run in the tourney. We really need to make the tourney to keep building recruiting momentum.

I'm curious to know if there's a 137+ page thread on BASKETBALL over on the boog bored.

there’s only 1 way to cure my Boog blues... some random “sharp” is ready to pounce on the Boogs to cut down the nets

for all I know, this dude lives above his grandma’s garage and bets on a 1 unit = $5 scale, but fvck it... I need something to pick my heart off the floor, and I think I just saw a faint glimmer of light

Stuckey is alright. Been following him for a few years. Knows hoops, but better at college football I think. His #1 is probably women’s tennis.

Gafford hurt for Arkansas is good for us

if he’s known for betting women’s tennis then he’s exactly the type of guy I can get behind... and he’s got like 30k twitter followers

his reasoning makes perfect sense - and the fact that he called it in October is reassuring

so is the fact we’re still 14th in kenpom - with a top 10 offense and a top 50 defense

we’re definitely better than we were in December/early January... that loss Saturday crushed me - but it was a much better performance than the NC State, UAB, South Carolina, and both Mississippi games

I remain skeptical, but I feel better... I was ready to write this team off completely Saturday afternoon... and while their tourney chances will be largely matchup dependent, the chances still remain
