OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

gang - don’t look now, but Mac is up to 33% from 3 on the year, Malik is down to 36% but holding steady, and the most G of all HYG’s Chuma is up to 38%

as a team we’re at 38%, and with the volume we shoot that’s enough to keep us in every single game against anyone... I love seeing mouthbreathers durr-hurr’ing about “live by the 3, die by the 3”... every single team in every single sport “lives” by something, but for whatever reason 3 point shooting just really bothers people

Just stupid NBA 3’s with 18’s seconds on the clock truly rustle folks

Visited Rupp today. A poster named morgousky literally started a thread talking about duke, unc, and Kansas and how awful cheaters they are and literally said UK in the only clean blue blood and never cheats. Lulz

All-time SEC record for treys is Arky's 94-95 team with 361. We are at 343. Win 2 in Nashville and there's a good chance we leave there as the greatest 3 point shooting team in SEC history. Bryce also has a shot to move up to #4 on the all time list during the tourney.

Don't look now, but Sports Reference shows this year's boog squad (SRS rating of 20.02) as the second-best team in school history behind only 1998-1999 (24.54). For comparison, last year's boog squad had an SRS of 15.97, good for third on the all-time boog list. Bama's best team ever was a 19.42. Until this year, Tennessee had never fielded a team with an SRS higher than 18.94.

The SRS is a "Simple Ratings System" based on average margin of victory and strength of schedule. Boogs are rated 12th right now. It is similar to KenPom and a version is often used for power polls.

So, in summary in conclusion, boogs are a lock for the second weekend.

Sounds like we’re all clear here but whatever
Odd story. No scholarships at Penn so a family was bribing the former coaches to let their shit basketball player be on the recruited athlete list so he would get into the school. Doesn't impact us, but optics suck so I assume Ira is gone tomorrow morning. Biggest issue here is I believe he was important for our recruitment of Cooper.

Bowman gonna get fired. Can’t be having that kind of bad optics on us, especially after the whole Person deal last year. And it looks shitty that we’ve had two guys on this staff in the last year that have (or alleged to have) committed NCAA violations.

Are we sure this is a NCAA violation? This is reverse cheating basically. A coach TAKING bribes to get weaker players into the squad instead of giving out bribes to bring talent in. I mean it's certainly a bad look and he's not going to win any ethics awards but I'm not sure this is any kind of big deal.

I'd say he's suspended for further investigation for now.

Pulling out my antiquated engineering slide rule, shows that is dead equal to shooting 57% from inside the arch. Not to bad for a Boog squad that cannot shoot, I would say.

Espn article on Jared. Kind of sounds like his family wants some PR to hype him for the draft but that could be cynical of me

I will die when someone calls him SBJ on tv. He's the boog we both want and need.

Bruce and the Greg aligned as one per usual. Talking about the last phase of Jared’s development is the float game and finishing at the rim.

I can definitely see him wanting to leave early but doubtful he gets drafted. Maybe a 2 way G league deal is enough. Sharife would be a nice consolation there.

Listened to the Bruce segment with Clay Travis. Asked him if he thought he got a raw deal at UT. Surprisingly he answered and basically said yes that they shouldn’t have fired him. Which of course is true and maybe the greatest blessing in the history of Boog U.

Anyway makes me think he’d strongly oppose letting Ira go over this nothingness. Of course Boog admin are the worst so who knows.

I assume he meant that he wished Tennessee would’ve fought the ncaa harder for more leniency or something. Bc you can’t retain a coach that’s been handed a show cause

Yeah, the more I think about it I’m not sure it’s an NCAA violation, but I don’t really know.

Well gang the SEC coaches were slightly more reasonable and had both Jared and Bryce on the all SEC team, BUT no Auburn players are on the all defensive team. I am rustled AF. There isn't a guard in this league that can guard your ass off like Bryce Brown. Defense is a lot more than just steals. Oh well, maybe we can get that chip back that we had last year.

Yeah, the more I think about it I’m not sure it’s an NCAA violation, but I don’t really know.

It must be a violation. Accepting funds to recruit a player cannot be kosher and if it isn’t a violation it will be very soon.

My initial thought is backup, but there is a part of me that doesn't think Bruce would sign him if he didn't have plans for him.
It would seem that either him or Tyrell Jones would be the most likely to take Bryce's spot. Tyrell is a little small at 6'1 though.

I suppose an unorthodox option is McCormick or Cooper (assuming he came) at 1, and Jared at 2, but that's even smaller at the 2 and Jared is probably too important to be changing positions like that.

Really just thinking out loud here

What are our thoughts on Jamal Johnson next year? potential starter or backup?
He was nationally ranked in the top 75 as a junior then fell to 110 on rivals and just out of the top 150 on 247. Played 27 minutes a game as a true frosh for Tubby Smith, who I don’t think is known for playing a lot of freshmen. Watch his highlights as a high school player and he’s obviously way more athletic than Doughty. I personally expect him to start but we’ll see I guess

Didn't know he played 27 minutes a game, that's a pretty good sign

I believe that Samir will move to the 2 if he stays. Not saying he starts over Jamal or anyone else that we sign, I just think that is his actual position.

Am I wrong in thinking that we haven’t even seen much of Samir at the 2 this season? And that there could be a reason for that? When McCormick comes in, Bruce will often just slide Jared over to give Bryce a break. We rarely ever see Malick coming in and Samir sliding down though if Bryce needs to come out. Samir might be considered too slow to D up on most 2s in the league. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that he starts next season

When Chuma and Danjel played together (very little) Samir went to the 2. I also think we would have seen more Samir at the 2 if Austin had been healthy and Danjel eligible (and in shape) at the same time. I think the reason we haven't seen Samir anywhere else is that Samir playing somewhere else leaves only one person to play the 3 (Malik). If you move Danjel to the 3 then you only have one person playing the 4. If you move Horace to 4, then you only have one person playing the 5. Without Austin we don't have the fouls down low to move people up a position.

All I know is that young buck Jamal Johnson is looking infinitely more chiseled and handsome after a few months in the program.

His stats weren’t great at Memphis but obviously playing for Bruce is an auto 10% bump in 3pt %. I’ve seen him dunk on a highlight tape so he’s clearly more athletic than Samir. J doesn’t have some fugged up side spin. Should have a chance to start at 2 but not expecting it.

The thing to remember about Samir too is that this is his 4th year in college so he may be on track to graduate. He was like Danjel in that he had to sit out a year and redshirt. Then played a year, then sat out last season for transferring. It’s unlikely but it’s not impossible that he could grad tranny out of Boogville if he thinks Jamal or one of the young freshmen could start over him

Hell, if Bruce can take Side Spin Samir from a 28% to a 44% 3pt shooter, then JJ should be shooting 50% by next fall.
