OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Dickie V's comparison to Deandre Hunter is pretty accurate, although I don't think Chuma will be a lottery pick this year like Hunter. Chuma putting together an SEC POY performance next year could potentially get him into the top 15 range, but I think he is going to be a hot name this spring and should probably capitalize on the opportunity now if he's a surefire 1st rounder. Hate to say it, but I think he'll be gonzo.

using words like gonzo make me think you are @Gay T. Jate FWIW

the benefit of being a late first rounder would be seeing him go to a good team... would love if he ended up in Golden State as the backup Draymond... he can defend 1-4, shoot the 3, and create shots... he can’t defend 5’s like Draymond but give him a couple of years

This one has him a the next to last pick of the draft

http://www.basketballinsiders.com/nba-daily-60-pick-nba-mock-draft-3-19-19/

I think Chuma will he just like Wiley last year. Get invited to NBA combine, get feedback, and make decision.

I think if he comes back, he would be a likely lottery pick in 2020 draft

I’d love it - because if that’s where he’s projected he’s coming back next year

but that mouthbreather has Grant Williams going 25th, so I’m not listening to a word he says

fvck, I would have to pull for Golden State then. Do Not Want.

On the subject of Okeke, he's still not getting CLOSE to the level of love he should for be for his defense. The last 6 weeks or so he's been not just "SEC All Defense" level but I can't think of anyone in the conference that is making a bigger impact on that end. Right now he's playing like the DPOY. He's as versatile as any defender in the league. He gets switched onto guards and I don't sweat. I want him on the other teams best 3/4/5 option. He crushes their souls. It's not flashy. He's not slapping the floor or finger waging after blocks. He doesn't dominate one category, so he doesn't jump off the page the way some guys do. But his combination of steals, blocks. deflections, shutting down the opponents best scorer for long stretches....its invaluable. If he does come back AU needs to hype that up a ton because people don't seem to realize that he's an elite defender that changes the game.

I wonder who he guards against UNC? probably Maye, but Maye is just white - well whiter - Grant Williams... Brooks isn’t an offensive threat... it would take Malik guarding Brooks to put Chuma on Cam Johnson, but he’s the 1 guy that scares me the most... he’s too long for Bryce, and Malik just isn’t a reliable defender... Chuma can handle him, but that probably weakens us too much in the paint

we’re gonna need defensive dog, quick hands, disrupt and deflect everything in his area, Samir to show up in that one... he can at least make Johnson uncomfortable

Whoever had Johnson has to stick to him and can't lose focus (this terrifies me regarding Malik). He's okay off the bounce but he mostly wants to get the long jumpers and he's pretty good at finding the space if you fall asleep for a second.

I tend to think we need to shut down Maye and basically make their guards do all the scoring. Maye is the only guy that should be a consistent threat inside. The others get buckets off others work or loose balls/rebounds. Shut Maye down and try to make them shoot jumpers all day. Hope that Harper/Brown/JVon are all able to give Brown some trouble too....cause if he gets going on you it's trouble. Teams that have been unable to stay in front of him have seemed to get trounced.

I'll be so pissed if Bruce leaves Auburn. I already don't watch football now.
I don't see it happening, especially for Vanderbilt. What he's building here I'd think he'd want to ride for at least a few more seasons. It's not like AU is broke, just use some of that money that you've been drying up on Gus for BRUCE. Hire some no-name for cheap once Gus is fired and redirect all the additional money to BASKETBALL. Seems like a no-brainer, even for someone who grew up with an affinity for AU hut hut.

Isn't this what BASKETBALL schools do?

Not worried about Bruce leaving at all. Yeah he deserves to be paid more but no blue blood is gonna touch him with his baggage. Let’s not forget that this the second year in a row too at AU that his top assistant has had to be fired for mischievous shit

I think they should move Bruce from 2.4 to around 4 million a year. That would put him as a top 5 paid coach. Heck, Avery was getting 3 a year and paid in the top 20.

I don't think he leaves because I think he will get a better deal and I think he's the kind of guy that falls in love with a place and wants to stay there. I think he'd have stayed at UT for 25 years if he didn't have the issue that got him fired. He doesn't seem to be one of those guys that has to have the blue blood job to feel like he's hit the mountain top.

Some guys want to change jobs all the time, in any profession. They jump to anything that looks better as chart it as advancement. Other guys look back after 45 years of work and were 2-3 places total and everyone at those 2-3 stops absolutely loves and adores them. Thats Bruce IMO. Not to say he's never leaving, but I think it would take a perfect storm.

I also think he has an appreciation for the ability to build something longterm and be considered THE guy for a program

he could go to UCLA or a better school and just be a part of the long tradition - or - he can build a program at Auburn that lasts and sustains for more than the random 2-3 year stretch, and become synonymous with Auburn basketball... he’s not going to leave after doing all of the hard stuff before he gets a chance to really enjoy the fruits of his labor... 2 banners, well 3 with a chance for more when we add the Sweet 16 one, is a good reward, but we’re not close to being finished
