OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

You had to assume that this would happen. If Chuck's indictment has anything to do with the shoe companies, I would be more worried. Im not saying there is nothing to this. No clue.

But remember that this ding dong walked himself into a FBI investigation that had nothing to do with him and his stupidity.

I'd hope nobody is dumb enough to put things on record that would implicate our coaches. That just seems unlikely. Even Chuck, as dumb as he was, seems to have done most of this in person or on the phone. There is no paper trail, he just got busted by working with an undercover and having his phones wiretapped.

My hope is that this becomes more about the shoe companies and their role. If that's the case, the AU stuff and Chuck Person becomes more of a periphery issue of a much larger investigation. And something that big won't really target schools so much, but the system that puts these shoe companies in position to do these things.

the longer and longer this story keeps going nowhere, the better and better I feel about it. Gotta think there are a ton of fuggin schools actively fighting together behind the scenes. Just a mass amount of resources dedicated to telling the ncaa to piss off.

The NCAA got put in a corner by my HEELS and anyone who's stood up to them. I'm not worried about them but if the feds want to find some shady dealings that would prompt our gutless AD to make changes I still fear that as a possibility.

Bmatt, JGT, and JLEE all basically take Monday off. That's their choice or whatever, but it's obvious that these practices are made available to the press. The mods over in boogville would be wise to be there. Just rotate who has responsibility.

Don't they take everyday off? They go to the ball game and presser. Mix in a few mins here and there throughout the week.

Meanwhile SEC BASKETBALL Media Day is tomorrow. Guessing tbb didn't know that.

To be fair, I haven't seen Mike mention it either (if I missed it, then my apologies).

I saw that from the guy who covers the SEC for Athlons.

Yes but I have full confidence Mike will be covering the event. tbbs lazy bums act like bball doesn't even exist.

I said something a few weeks back. Their basketball coverage has been lacking and seemingly their excuse is "well it's football season" or "so much uncertainty with the FBI investigation".
It's like those guys have no connex or insight into anything. How hard is it to get some kind of feel for what is going on and what the expectation is for eligibility/ etc? Supposed to be plugged into the happenings of barn athletics.

Missouri all the way up to 5 is interesting
Yeah that class and Porter is just sick nasty but I still think we should be better than them.

Bama will be legit no doubt but I had to chuckle about the comment on Avery's up tempo offense. We should be competitive with them but their D is a known quantity that gives them a chance every night.

Our boy Blake is back to power rank the SEC

boogs at 6 and firmly in the TOURNEY

One underrated part of Chuck being in jail instead of on our sidelines is that we don't have to deal with that NBA mentality running our defense anymore. We simply refused to go zone when it was obvious we couldn't play man. When we did go zone, we looked like we were being coached by a man who had forgotten what zone was.

Defense at the college level is nothing like defense at the NBA level. Chuck never seemed to adjust. It was a mess. So maybe his absence will fuel some improvement there.

Definitely glad to have the "defensive coordinator", as Jacobs so ignorantly put it, gone since we were crap on defense under him.

Yeah I'm not gonna miss him much from a coaching standpoint. Seemed to do ok on the trail (no additional commentary necessary). It would be nice to have another competent coach on the staff though.

jhead commented in that thread and said:

"I think the key thing to remember is that the NCAA and Auburn are taking their ques from the FBI in this situation, not the other way around. It’s my understanding that if Auburn could have been proactive to this point it would have been (player suspension, scholarship reduction, etc), but there is sense that the FBI does not want their investigation comprised in any way. Thus it could be a while before we know anything, as there are a lot of moving parts here besides just Auburn’s involvement. On top of that, as JGT said, Auburn is still in a fact finding phase of determining the extent of each infraction, as everything is not as cut and dry as it was perceived to be upon the issuance of Person’s indictment."

Tate jumped in and offered nothing basically. Just said no one knows what's going to happen with players being or not being suspended.

@cookedw what's going down in your bball thread on the boog?

Not much. JGT not willing to even speculate, which I can understand. Some guy who joined just 10 days ago, stating that we gonna play them all and worry about it later (with the expectation of nothing will come about for the next two three years). Said this came from a former player. Not sure I buy that story.

But then insidesource and I went a little back and forth on the Purifoy situation. He dogged McGlynn for it and I told him it very well could have been a blessing in disguise. Because had we have play Purifoy and then the NCAA deemed him ineligible, Im not sure Bruce would have much chance to survive this Person mess had we just gotten in trouble for that.

He laughed at me saying we sat him no reason and he was never deemed ineligible. I gave him the link where on Feb 16th, the NCAA declared him officially ineligible over the ACT test. He hasn't responded.
