OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

I would never say we are better without Mac just out of respect for the young stud. I mean I wouldn't say it anyway because it's stupid but 90 w/o Staph available is pretty nice. Maybe our best offensive performance of the season. Wasn't even a soft 90 where you shoot a zillion FTs the last couple mins. We had 90 with like 2.5 mins left. See what we can do away from the Clam but we've seen all these guys perform on the road as well.

Mac is only better at blocking shots off the ball. He’s not better than Chuma at anything else. Y’all forget Mac wasn’t playing well at all except the game before he snapped his ankle.
He's a better defender. He was shooting 45% from 3. I love that zone we should go to it more. Mac's been excellent all year by any measure even with some struggles here and there. Chuma is just that talented. As Bruce said the only real problem here is depth cause we still have the pieces to beat pretty much anyone.

I agree. I only think our team will have trouble with a big team that puts us in foul trouble early. Fully confident outside of that. I want to see us finish the sec regular season championship off, and get Brown a week off.

And a good offensive second half against USC. I don’t mean to imply the team got better because of it, but that ball movement last night when Chuma played the 5 was something to behold

We're trouble with Chuma at the 5. You better make us pay at the other end or we're gonna go on some big runs with that small ball lineup. It's GSW Death Lineup stuff. It won't always work but when it does its NASTY.

14 steals last night and I feel like 10 of them came with that lineup on the floor. Hands everywhere. Quickness all over the plays. When their bigs did get touches they wanted to get rid of the ball because we made their life suck.

The only way to beat that lineup for most teams is to do a A&M and own the paint and the glass. Few teams can do that. And I'm not sure anyone tries to match our small with theirs because we're likely to crush you on the glass. Our small lineup is used to hitting the glass hard as hell, yours likely isn't.

Here's what I see:

PG: We lose our only PG who actually plays like a PG. he is also one of the best perimeter defenders we have. That leaves us with year 2 JH who plays alright defense, but has no real groove as a true PG. Can make some flashy passes but makes poor decisions under pressure. Then an unknown in Davion Mitchell.

SG: We have a decent defender in Bryce but he has a shit attitude when he's not hitting 3s. A pure emotional player and if he misses the first two you can pretty much bet he's gonna checkout for a half. Then Mustapha is a certified baller.

SF: we lose Dunnans who is almost as maddening as Cim Bowers was. Dude will looks like an all star one game and a church league scrub the next. His game is so confusing. We get year 4 TJ Lang. LOL.

PF: we have DP. Who has shown he is arguably the worst defender on the team, and has lost his ability to do anything on O besides stand on the perimeter and jack threes. Then horace who will miss a ton of crucial time where he could've been improving his game. Don't know how he fits in. Then Okeke who is another wing who will play 4 in Bruce's O. Oh yeah, and Desean Murray who is like 6'5 but will probably play this position for some reason. Maybe DP moves to the 3? I have no idea.

C: Wiley and Mac. The only position we should feel good about. So long LaRon. You seem like a genuinely good dude, but I have no idea how you convinced the world you could play D-1

Aside from Jared and Desean I wasn’t wrong about much.... there were also several people saying Davion was gonna come in and start over Harper but I’m not gonna look through year old threads to find it.

Don't worry cookie bumped one of those too and I ridiculed them with hindsight, just like an asshole like myself is supposed to do.

You either have a photographic memory or way too much time on your hands.

Neither. In honor of Okeke's big night last night, I searched "Okeke not that good" for Doc. Didn't even remember your thread. It was one that popped up.

You either have never used the search function or you struggle with it way more than you should.

Don’t use it. Never had a reason too. Don’t care enough to look for old shit that’s been said during arguments/discussions.

Every Spring, there is a probability that a couple of starters will be suspended by Fall. It's almost a certainty that a half dozen guys that go thru Spring Practice will quit or transfer or get kicked off by the Season opener.

The story about how the playing rotation shakes out under different scenarios almost writes itself. Kinda like all the speculation about our OL lineup. I don't view all the ink given to guys who didn't start vs Ga State as 'wasted', especially since many figure into our plans halfway thru.

And even with 1 or 2 guys permanently gone, this roster is still way upgraded over last Fall.

No. Still better than last year's team.

We are replacing Ronnie Johnson with Davion Mitchell. Harper is no longer a Tr Fr. Upgrade at 1
We are replacing LaRon Smith with Chuma Okeke. Other than Wiley, The most heralded Big man we have signed since Vot. Upgrade at 4
We are replacing T J Dunans and T J Lang with Malik Dunbar and Desean Murray. Gotta feel like that is an upgrade on D. Lang was often asked to guard 4s. Even though Lang was a great spot up shooter (when wide open), we lose Dunans wasted possessions with his terrible drive finishing. Upgrade on O as well.
We will have some outside shooting, unless Bryce somehow replicates his Soph Slump of of last year's first half.
We know that Heron AND Purifoy both won't be out, so we will have at least one slasher/scorer on the wing.
We will have size (athletic size) to guard and rebound with the bigger teams in this conference with McLemore, Spencer, and Okeke.

If we lose 2 guys for the whole season, which I think is not likely, we will still have a better First 9 than we did this time last year. If we get everyone, we are gonna have to find a playing rotation to accomodate 11 guys. That in itself is a problem.

And this may be controversial, but with the Big Center position becoming an anachronism, and knowing how and who Pearl's UT teams played, I'm not sure if our overall style of play suffers a whole lot without Wiley. I'd rather have him, but I really don't think he fits the Pearl mode to a tee.

I'd only begin to panic if we lost Purifoy AND Heron, which I don't think can happen. Even without those two, we are a bigger slower team that can cause problems if we shift to a half court/pound it inside style with 4 True Bigs. Even that team is an NIT team IMO

I reeeezpekktfully dizagree wit dat. If HERRUN iz eligible, we may be BETTA than yore azz THANKZ. We kan kumpeeeet without WILEY and Purifoy, we Kant kumpeeeet without MUSTAPHA.
BTW-- Foe WUT itz werth y'all do,a fine job in both banzkitball and football kuvverage!!
Sum times I wish y'all wood come out and say "GUS SUKKZ" a litta MOE, but I undastand why yore azz Kant do DAT!!

I don't agree very often with you, but this maybe the best post I've seen from you. Completely agree. Take 2 away and we're still a more complete team than last year.

I disagree with that. Especially if the one playing is Heron. We have a nice roster this year.

All this. I'm just not convinced that, on the college level, Wiley makes us a vastly better team in Bruce's system than Mac. Is Wiley better? Sure. More pro potential? Of course. Would I like to have him? You bet. But a 5 like Mac who can run the floor, rebound and dunk will be excellent in Bruce's system.

We played large stretches last year without Purifoy or with a sub-par Purifoy. So losing him isn't a huge factor. Sure, the potential for an improved Purifoy would be great, but that's only potential. I don't think we lose much, relative to how Danjel played most of last year, if he's not eligible. Again, we lose with Wiley, but not as much as most think. I do think that we lose depth at the 5. That's the biggest thing. Having Wiley with Mac to back him up was huge. Now we either have to go with Horace at the 5, or play someone way out of position. It creates a rotation problem.

But our starting 5 this year, even without Wiley and Danjel, will be better than our starting 5 last year. Our rotation will also be better. And what if defense has really been a focus and we are a much better defensive team? I just don't think losing Danjel and Wiley means we are worse than last year. This team without Danjel and Wiley can still win 20-22 games and be a solid NIT team, with the potential to gel and make an NCAAT. Am I predicting that? Nope. But I am predicting that even without Danjel and Austin, this year's team is better than last year's.

So that's hardly a lost season or "moot" team.
Other than being wrong, you weren't wrong. This is what being right looks like

@Denim Vest will appreciate this

Didn't even realize it, but a thread I bumped calling John Petty the best player to come out of Alabama since Ronald Steele was also the one where auliferz said he would love to have seen what Barbee could have done coaching this level of talent.
How is @au4life_rz not a Worst Poster finalist?
- between the endless run on parentheticals, using 400 words where 7 would do, and his endless fellatio of the worst coach to ever set foot on campus, in any sport

Literally the only thing worth reading in his posts are the first sentence. I'm not joking, all of the thought is there. If you read the whole thing you have read far too much.

I seriously DO NOT understand why he tried to hold barbee up as a good coach? It’s maddening.

And lulz at Bruce wearing that auburn football shirt. Glad to see staph there as well.

just swished myself again
Dear God. I’m ready to proclaim this the greatest Boog team I’ve ever witnessed. Most fun I’ve ever had watching Boog athletics. Still holding out on the unicorn ride to San Antonio but what a season it’s been. What a group. And of course the greatest Boog corch of all time in BRUCE.

I feel sorry for people who don't read @Docdumpsta 's stuff because of how he posts, because dude definitely knows what he's talking about, and brings a lot of good insight and info to the table.

As the season goes on, Dunbar is becoming one of my favorite Boogs. Kid just bleeds passion and personality. And absolutely not a pouty mother fugger like the previous Juco guys we’ve had. Kid clearly loves the team

he hasn’t been quite the defender I hoped but has been a much more consistent perimeter threat... he’s reckless as shit, but I like 2 guys like that... more than 2 and things get dicey, but he’s been exactly what I hoped he would be

Desean gets credit for bringing some toughness to the team, but there’s a difference between toughness and lunacy, and Malik and Horace are the 2 wildcards... we need every bit of edge they bring us... basketball players by and large are huge pussies... unbelievable athletes - the best in the world - but huge pussies... guys body language change and they walk on eggshells when Malik and Horace are out there... they just make everyone else around them uncomfortable and I love it
