No. Still better than last year's team.
We are replacing Ronnie Johnson with Davion Mitchell. Harper is no longer a Tr Fr. Upgrade at 1
We are replacing LaRon Smith with Chuma Okeke. Other than Wiley, The most heralded Big man we have signed since Vot. Upgrade at 4
We are replacing T J Dunans and T J Lang with Malik Dunbar and Desean Murray. Gotta feel like that is an upgrade on D. Lang was often asked to guard 4s. Even though Lang was a great spot up shooter (when wide open), we lose Dunans wasted possessions with his terrible drive finishing. Upgrade on O as well.
We will have some outside shooting, unless Bryce somehow replicates his Soph Slump of of last year's first half.
We know that Heron AND Purifoy both won't be out, so we will have at least one slasher/scorer on the wing.
We will have size (athletic size) to guard and rebound with the bigger teams in this conference with McLemore, Spencer, and Okeke.
If we lose 2 guys for the whole season, which I think is not likely, we will still have a better First 9 than we did this time last year. If we get everyone, we are gonna have to find a playing rotation to accomodate 11 guys. That in itself is a problem.
And this may be controversial, but with the Big Center position becoming an anachronism, and knowing how and who Pearl's UT teams played, I'm not sure if our overall style of play suffers a whole lot without Wiley. I'd rather have him, but I really don't think he fits the Pearl mode to a tee.
I'd only begin to panic if we lost Purifoy AND Heron, which I don't think can happen. Even without those two, we are a bigger slower team that can cause problems if we shift to a half court/pound it inside style with 4 True Bigs. Even that team is an NIT team IMO
