OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

the 8-10 seed part comes from Danjel missing 30% of the season... no way of knowing for sure how Mac will return... and the lack of size forcing Danjel and Chuma to play more 4 - which neither seems to want to do even though they both fit best there

playing 30% of the season with Horace, Chuma, and a question mark in Mac isn’t great... but that’s also not taking into account Stretch or a grad transfer

I guess that would be the silver lining - without Austin and with Danjel suspended we’ve gotta be the most attractive landing spot for any non-PG grad transfer

on its own, the talent is still there, but the line between being a 3 seed and an 8 seed is pretty thin - especially if the SEC keeps getting better

maybe it’s a little drastic - and regardless of seed, I’ll be happy with a tourney birth of any kind... I’m not to the point where getting to the tourney can be seen as a disappointment if any kind

I think the biggest thing will be how Bruce uses these open spots as far as signees/transfers as far as 2018 goes. As of right now, we 4 open scholarships (Keim, Heron, Murray, and Mitchell). 5 if Wiley doesn't come back

I assume Stretch will take one. So 3-4 left. I would love to add the JUCO kid (Mahan? 3 to play 3), a grad transfer (one with size and length), and then 1-2 traditional transfers that would have to sit out a year (unless we can find a good grad transfer that has two years to play).

Im not necessarily of the mindset we need a grad-transfer PG, with Harper and Samir. JMO
 
Definitely sucks Danjel won’t be available for Maui. Hopefully we get that Juco wing and a GT PG. I think Akingbola is gonna be a stud. Bigger, longer Mac who won’t be wasting June-Nov at the 4 his FR year.

Still, I pray to all the God’s Austin returns as that’s our legit shot at making a final 4 run.

Ideally we don't need one but if Jared ever gets dinged up you gotta have another PG by trade I think. I'd like to not have to play him more than 30mins/ gm either. We got enough spots open anyway.

Or the rare occasion that Jared goes full retard like the CoC game and picks up 2 fouls in the first minute. You gotta have 3 guys that can really run the point. I think Samir would make a better emergency PG, and we should go out and get a legit backup PG.

Word is Bruce thinks Samir is much better than an emergency PG and is part of the reason Mitchell left (eating into potential minutes at PG).

I really don't want to take 2 grad transfers with only one year of eligibility left. If Wiley comes back, I could see us going after a grad transfer at PG and not going after a big, but Im just not sure how many quality grad transfer guys there are that want to come to Auburn to be the back up PG that may even be the back up to the back up.

Even if he’s a stud I think you need 3 options at each position. We have that at every other position. I’d rather make sure we have everything we may need for this season then worrry about the next later. Even with 2 GTs you got room for a JUCO, tranny and Stretch.

No ones Doc, and no one is saying we will be. If we add a JUCO, it will be because Bruce thinks he can provide quality minutes/play next year.

Yeah, but I don’t think you’re attracting a GT PG if you already have two on your roster. I think Samir could be a legit PG, but I’d rather use him in other spots so we can get another PG this year and then signs Frost PG in the ‘19 class.

And I think we will take 1 GT unless Wiley doesn’t return. My guess is Stretch, a JUCO combo guard, a GT, and a freshman true transfer with 3 to play 3.

No, Bruce is encouraging them to go through the process so they can get a third party evaluation of their game. It’s not about being humbled. Maybe that happens in the process, but it’s about gathering as much info to help them improve their games.

They need the NBA to point out deficiencies?? My God a high school coach can critique their game. They have a ton of stuff to work on. Fundamentals being close to #1.

I would think it's similar to if you get a job interview for a job you're not close to being qualified for, but no reason not to take the interview and see how it all works

I am guessing you about right on this one. That is fine, unless it backfire and leaves us with a bunch of holes to fill last minute with juco or grad transfer kids. Then we are back to where we started 4 yrs ago. Hopefully the kids are not bailing because Bruce is gone. Have not kept up much lately, so no clue if that is still a possibility.

If it is, the admin would have egg on their face. They both (pres and AD) have come out publicly and backed Bruce
 
Bruce ain’t going anywhere. Some of these kids are just testing the water. And that’s not crazy. Both Bryce and Jared were on the all sec team and up for sec player of the year. It’s not insane for them to see what nba scouts think of them. No way either gets drafted though.

The more we talk about this though the more I’m looking forward to seeing Doughty and Danjel

What you hearing on Stretch? JGT stating that he is hearing he will be reclassifying but Auburn is up in the air on whether we will choose to sign him.

It's also the feedback they'll listen to above anyone else on the planet, including Bruce Pearl, our entire staff or any talking head or message board poster. That's the elite level of your desired industry giving you direct feedback to make you more ready to compete for a spot. It would be like getting feedback from the top 10 firms in your line of work on a global level as junior in college. You take that 100 times out of 100. Yes, some of their issues are obvious....you still have the actual, verified experts tell you that and see if there is anything else that the average Joe doesn't see.

I'm sad about Murray and Mitchell. I really loved watching those 2 kids play. Murray competing on the glass with guys he had no business competing against and getting the better of them quite a bit. He had a toughness we will struggle to replace too. And Mitchell has that dog in him defensively. You can't replicate that easily. He had a rare ability to get after ball handlers and it was. a joy to watch. Not happy at all we're not going to get to see him eat opposing PG's souls here.

I too am very sad about Murray and Mitchell. Murray was an X factor and battle and fought every night. Mitchell was going to be special.

Tate has stated that Stretch is a Horace Spencer clone and appears to be of the opinion that not signing him isn’t a big deal.
 
How many AU athletes have been more paid that last 20 years than Marquis? CAM obviously. I guess a couple Boog baseball players. Dude made like $50M in the lig now he’s lowkey chillin with Bruce and the boys. Pretty sweet.
