OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Why do we test for weed so much? Does the NCAA punish Auburn for not testing enough?
Why test for it at all? Yeah, that is an overstatement, but why test any more often than required by the NCAA? I do not smoke weed and have never been a weedsmoker, but I know and have known and worked with several folks who do/are who were/are talented and highly productive and responsible individuals. Great coworkers/teammates who I would take over many otehrs who don't smoke. As long as a guy makes his grades, does what he is supposed to do, stays in shape, performs, and fits in with his teammates, why should anyone care if he smokes? Yeah, it is illegal but so is drinking alcohol prior to the age of 21 and nobody cares if a kid does that. If he otherwise keeps his nose clean and does his job, why create an opportunity to make him ineligible if not absolutely required by the NCAA?

Lol @ us testing regular contributors of a Big 3 revenue sport on a weekly basis.

That’d be embarrassing even by Auburn standards.
When I worked there (2011, so things could have changed), the most anyone ever got tested was once every other week. And they had to have failed a legit "random" test for that to happen. The thing about the NCAA's rules on drug testing, that the onus is on the school to do it and report the results, is that it isn't to the school's benefit to test the student-athletes like that. But, according to several of the SA's that I've known over time, the more we win, the more they're tested, because post season bowls, tournaments, etc. require testing of all active roster SA's by NCAA proctors, and that's when the school can take a hit if someone fails. But none of this may mean anything 7 years later so TIFWIW.

Have a really hard time believing that D Murray left just bc he wanted to smoke weed more. With Danjel getting cleared and Chuma only getting better, he was gonna be shit out of luck this season. And after being the star of his first team and and a starter last year, I doubt he wanted to end his career on the bench getting 10-12 minutes a game
I have no idea what testing is like now a days, but i do know that once you get on the radar with a positive you'r more apt to get tested again. Whether or not he was being tested an inordinate amount or not, it is stressful when your name gets called far more than the guys around you, so i could see how that wore on him. Ultimately I think it still came down to his perception of play time for next season that lead to his departure.
@seaborn56, really appreciate you bringing what you have over here, thnx.

No arguments from me Blue. I don’t use it myself but am pro legalization. Let people do what they want to do, as people do what they want to do anyways

We don’t have enough money to support our citizens.[Let’s raise taxes] Can’t do that, we ran on no new taxes. [Let’s remove ear marks] Can’t do that because we will be seen as destroying education plus my backers expect kick backs. [Let’s have a lottery] Can’t trust them poors and welfare recipients not to waste the little money they have on gambling. [Let’s legalize marijuana] We can’t look soft on crime or weak on family values. [Let’s just throw in the towel] We can’t we don’t have enough money to support our citizens.

The bottom line is this, if we truly care about winning, we aren’t letting an NCAA “random” drug test anywhere near anyone on our roster who plays a significant role in the first place. And we damn sure aren’t taking it upon ourselves to test them outside of the NCAA scope.

Basically the approach our fiercest rivals who consistently contend and never seem to lose key players to drugs suspensions.

I can't believe you guys are okay with our precious children becoming drug heads. One day they are smoking marijuana cigarettes, and the next they are smoking the crack cocaine or jenkems or worse. I expect better than that. I bet you would be willing to allow weed bongs in the athletic dorms if it meant a Final Four run. Sickening.

I keep reading twitter and keep seeing other teams scooping up all the grad transfers out there. I wonder how hard they’re chasing a PG or if they’re confident that Samir can be the second ball handler

If Staph and Wiley return, do we really need any grad transfers? That'd leave us with 11 including Stretch. Maybe another PG so Doughty could float between several different positions.

Harper/Doughty
Brown/Dunbar
Heron/Purifoy
Okeke/Spencer
Wiley/Mac/Stretch

I'd be fine rolling with that 11. I think we want another PG but Doughty could do it for 10mpg. Tough because we want a couple guys who can help in 19 but be willing to basically sit next season.

There’s still a boatload of youngsters yet to hit the tranny market so I don’t think it’s a real biggie even though I’d prefer to fill out the roster ASAP.

Will the youngsters benefit from the exponential bone density growth theory that one guy was talking about? That sounded amazing. I wonder if it's like the Super Soldier serum they gave Captain America? If so, Boogs could field a team of those superior athletes!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the VCU transfer becomes our best player next year.

Depends on who comes back obviously, but I’d be shocked if he became our best player. We had three guys who were in the discussion for SEC POY until the last three weeks or so of the season. And we may add two of our “most likely to be Pros” back to the roster. I’ll say this, if we get everybody back, and he’s our best, we’re 38-1ish and Bruce climbs the last ladder of the season!

I can get on board with that!

I think Bryce could be a guy to catch on with a team if he can shoot 40% plus from three. I'm talking as a reserve.

There’s not a guard in the league that has worse handles than Bryce. He’s athletic enough to play over seas, and he’s a really good college player, but the NBA isn’t in his future IMO.

I’m inclined to agree here, but if he comes back and improves as much this year as last then who knows. The league loves lock down defenders who can shoot it.

I somewhat agree because he came a long way this year, but he truly only locks down when his shots are falling. If he changed his mindset to be a defensive player first I could almost imagine it. You probably aren’t old enough to remember Alvin Robertson, but that’s what he’d need to become IMO. He was our best on ball defender who started, by far, but that’s not saying much. I have loved him from day 1 so I hope he makes me look dumb.

There’s no reason his handle and drive to the basket should be so limited with how athletic he is. I’m gonna be shocked if he ever makes a roster, but glad to have him in college

True. He’s a mental midget and doesn’t know how to get open either. I’m interested to see how he progresses in the summer.

I’d buy the bongs and the corresponding weed.

I think it's more of an "paralysis by analysis" kind of thing. I don't think he necessarily has a terrible handle, I just think he has no idea what to do once his shot isn't there and is totally and completely uncomfortable once his first option is negated. Kind of like Jeremy Johnson but that's extreme
