OT: Boogs MSU not men’s softball...

Tomorrow is the rubber match for last place in the conference standings.

Year 3.

Poorly executed hit and run costs us an out. Can’t play small ball if you aren’t disciplined enough to execute it, I suppose.

just looking at the twittosphere and it looks like the bats woke up. Praise be unto Gabe.

Nice W. Hopefully it’ll carry over to next weekend as I’m tired of getting swept by them...

HR. 3-0 State. I think I’ll take a nap. This one’s done.

Turns out Butch is a pretty terrible coach.

Who’d a thunk?

3 up 3 down. Ho hum.

Back to back 2 out doubles. 4-0.

Happy to see something good happen for this team. They've continued to grind, and it's good to see that paid off, even if for a brief moment. That was a big AB for Venter. Hopefully, that's something he can get some confidence from and build off of for the next 5 SEC series. I thought Greenhill was really good in his first extended outing. If he can add a third pitch, he's probably in our weekend starting rotation next year. I thought Burns pitched pretty well too. Probably need to move Mitchell into the starting rotation to see if we can have a more competitive start with Daniel struggling.

Big series coming up this weekend. Need to find a way to win 2. Bama's pitching staff has been a big surprise so far in SEC play. Their starters aren't world beaters, but their bullpen has been very strong for them so far this season. Going to be a tough series at their place.

Just looked up the standings. 3rd place overall in the SEC and last place are just 4 games a part.

Yeah, I could see about 10 teams finishing somewhere between 13-17 and 16-14 this year.

I posted this on the bunk, but Butch made some interesting comments about the pitching rotation going forward. Said Mize and Burns would likely stay Fri/Sun and Mitchell would likely start Saturday in place of Daniel. But he also talked about looking ahead and how future series set up. Florida is a Thur-Sat series, and he talked like they're having conversations about not moving Mize up and letting him stay in his Friday spot so as not to shorten his rest and put more stress or fatigue on his arm. Given that 3 of our final 4 series are Thur-Sat, I found that comment interesting. Makes me think we would bump Burns up next week for the Saturday start and throw who knows against Singer next Thursday. Then, you'd probably have to mix the Thursday and Sunday starts up from here on out given the short rest there would be. Might look something like this:

at Bama (Fri-Sun): Mize/Mitchell/Burns

at UF (Thur-Sat): ???/Mize/Burns moves up a day (it might make sense to move Tanner up against Bama if they are seriously considering this "Mize on Friday" routine)

Vandy (Fri-Sun): Mize/Burns/???

at OM (Thur-Sat): ???/Mize/Burns

LSU (Fri-Sun): ???/Mize/Burns

Really hope we go Mize, Burns, Johnny Wholestaff this weekend.

Tanner’s biggest challenge is getting to 6-7 innings of consistent command instead of 4-5 innings. When he gets there, we will be tough to beat with him on the bump.

Looks like that’s the plan. They announced yesterday were moving Tanner to Saturday and TBDing Sunday’s starter. Probably going to start one of Coker, Mitchell, or Greenhill, whichever is the freshest on Sunday.
