Huge series for the Tigers. Mize vs Singer tonight. Should be a good game. Starts at 6:00 CT on ESPNU. Florida has only lost one Singer start all season. He gave up 6 runs on 7 hits against Arkansas. Outside of that start, he’s been absolutely dominant all year.

Well Florida is up 2-0 early off their stud hitting a 2 run dinger in the first. Their pitcher has looked vulnerable though, his pitch count is a little up and we stranded 2 runners last inning.

Got one back in the 4th. Now 2-1 going into the bottom of the 4th. Singer is over 60 pitches through 4. Mize is at 43 through 3.

And gave it right back. 3-1 UF to start the 6th. Mize has been a bit inconsistent tonight. Looks like he’s trying to overpitch at times, which is unusual for him.

You know you are good when you are considered to be inconsistent on a night where you have giving up only 3 hits, 0 walks, and have 8 Ks through 5 innings

Right. But it’s not been his sharpest outing. The HR was a mistake, and he’s been hit pretty hard by a couple guys. Not bad by any stretch, but going against Singer who has been pretty good, it’s led to our 3-1 deficit.

On pace to give up over 5 runs. Not good enough against this squad.

To be fair, the guy who hit said HR is one of the best hitters in the country. He deserves credit for hitting it.

I guess that line drive off the forearm last week is still bothering him?

Went 7 innings
3 hits
10 Ks
1 walk
3 runs (2 ERs)

Yeah I mean 2 of the 3 runs came from makeable plays that Josh Anthony didn't make. The third came when 1st base wasn't open because of Anthony's error, so who knows how that could have affected it. Not sure Burns is ready for what he is facing tomorrow, but I hope he is. This has got sweep written all over it IMO.

Oh, I’m not taking anything from India. He made a great swing. But I think Mize would say he missed on that pitch. India might’ve still hit it out if Mize had thrown it where he wanted, but I think it was a miss. Mize also hit a batter, walked a batter, and got to a few 3-ball counts. Just don’t think it was as sharp as we’ve seen Mize, and Florida really took advantage of those mistakes while we couldn’t take advantage our Singer’s inconsistencies early.

So I just noticed something while looking at some stats, Connor Davis played 1st in high school. Why the heck is he not playing 1st with Venter on 3rd?

My guess is because we needed OFs this offseason and had multiple options at first and third. Coming into the fall and spring, we had 2 true outfielders on the roster with any collegiate experience: Jeremy Johnson and Bowen McGuffin. We've had to convert Davis, Williams, Estes, and even Julien to have serviceable play. And until a few weeks ago, they were planning on redshirting Judd Ward, but he was working so hard they gave him a shot.

So, I doubt Conor has done much or any infield work this year. They may have started working him at 1B some recently with the emergence of Ward. Just not sure there. Right now, I think the bets move would be to put Jarvis at 3B, Julien at 2B, and let Davis DH. Probably need to move Venter down to the 7-8 hole as well. You could move Venter to 3B and Ingram to 1B, but that doesn't necessarily get Davis in the lineup full time. Plus, the first option keeps 3 LH bats in the order.

We need to really work Kowar tonight. He's walked 26 hitters this year, which is the most on Florida's staff. Not as much of a strikeout guy as Singer but probably has more movement on his sinker. He's only given up 9 extra base hits in the 32 hits he's allowed in SEC play. But he's walked 11 in his last 4 SEC starts. Kowar does a really good job of working around those walks, though, as he has the best ERA of any starter on the team. Produces a lot of ground balls and weak contact.

Yeah I'm not sure which is worse, not having worked much infield this year or not having played 3rd ever. The defensive responsibilities for 3rd can be a lot to learn in a short period of time. Unless I'm missing something, has Jarvis played 3rd before?

We moved him there in the 9th inning of the Miss St game when Anthony was puking and couldn’t make to the field. Don’t know how much he’s practiced there, but he’d probably be the only IF I’d attempt that with. He seems to be a savvy guy that could figure it out and handle it well.

Swapped Venter and Anthony in the field and moved Venter to 7th in the lineup. Otherwise, no changes to the lineup. Not really sure about that.

Wow. We got almost as lucky tonight as we did in the 14-3 Friday night game last year against this bunch.

Watching an AU commit tonight on the mound. Pretty filthy stuff.

Cullman vs Pell City. Will Morrison. Good friends son pitches for Pell City, 10th grader. Hope he’s on the Plains in a few years.

How was the Morrison kid? His recruitment seemed like a weird one. Committed to Miss St, then to Wallace, then committed to Auburn in March.

Big win tonight. Now, we need the bullpen to hold Florida to 5 tomorrow and our bats have to show up. If we play tomorrow like we did tonight, we can win this series.

He has really good stuff. Probably hits 90. Filthy curve. Throws from the stretch. Side armed. My vision is horrible but he looked really slender. When Rocky McCord was a SR in HS I expected he’d gain 50 lbs and 5 MPH on his fastball. And he weighed 175 when he left here. Some people are just skinny. This kid looks like he can get thicker, stronger and throw even harder but who knows. He ended up getting the win tonight 5-3. Only gave up maybe 4 hits but he had control issues. Hit 4 batters. Also hit 2 run single to make it 5-3.

Shows what we know. Anthony and Venter were both great at the plate tonight.
Yeah Anthony can get hot on occasion. I believe it was Arky that he obliterated last year. Maybe he can get on a hot steak because lord knows he’s been absolutely awful during his entire tenure here save a few games here and there..

Yeah I agree. He’s 8-24 since the start of the Bama series with 8 RBIs. Maybe he’s found something he can hold onto for the rest of the season. Four or five of those hits have been back up the middle or to the right side, which is a good sign for him.
