OT: GOLF

If Tiger had not given those three away, he'd be right there with the guy who played mistake free. Refreshing to say the least.

SHE HAS been exceptionally terrible lately.
she's just your run of the mill psycho 30+ non married chick. It's fun to watch these people spiral over the course of a decade or so though. Been a real interesting ride.

British open weekend ratings were the highest they've been since the year 2000. I wonder why

Guys, I’ve always been at least decently athletic but just complete trash at golf. Hitting grounders all the time, slicing drivers for like 150 yards, hitting the ground before the ball, etc. you get the picture. Because of that, I refused to play for 8 years because it annoyed me so bad.

Anyways, I started playing about a month ago because I needed a hobby so life wasn’t just work, church, and Netflix. I was still terrible, hitting every iron 100 yards or less.

I always though it was lame, but decided to finally take a lesson.

Ended the day today actually able to hit a 7 iron straight for about 160-170 yards.

I know no one cares but I was pretty pumped to finally hit things that looked like golf shots.

my older brother was a national champion swimmer at AU and is just super competitive and always thought he was the shit. But he just sucks so bad at golf. He went like 4 or 5 years of outright refusing to play with me, my dad, and my younger brother because he always got his ass kicked. It can be such a humbling game. Showing up hung over and kicking his ass on the course after he'd spent an hour and half on the range practicing was always a thrill.

It’s interesting to see who is good at it and who isn’t. There doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason sometimes to who’s good or not.

The thing with my brother is just that he’s always worked so hard at everything and that’s how he’s been successful. So it just pissed him the fugg off that he put in so much time and effort into golf and he still sucked. He finally chilled out but there were a few times where he just straight up quit in the middle of Ed’s bc he was so pissed.

But if you have good flexibility and hand eye coordination then you should be able to be at a bogey golfer without too much effort

No better feeling in the world than nutting one down the fairway. Congrats bruh.

I’m going to take a few lessons this fall. Always been decent (mid 80’s), but got so pissed the last time I played last fall that I decided to take this year off as it was no longer fun for me after I battled to break 100 for 3 consecutive rounds.

I have fallen into the hole known as "Top Speed Golf." Guy has a ton of free YouTube videos but for $47 a year you can access all his videos and go through his program. I'm a pretty skeptical person, but it has legit helped me tremendously.

I caught on quickly from starting out with a baseball swing. Love to play. I find it helpful to take a shit or two every three holes to stay loose throughout.

oh...there is. Odd though, I played with a friend and his dad once, and I warned them that I hadn't played in about a year and would probably shoot over 90, which they thought was a good joke because they couldn't shoot 90 even with mulligans. Proceeded to par the first 3 holes then went bogey bogey par birdy...basically that kind of day, ****ed around and shot an 82. They both went over 110. The dad was super salty at me for being better than his son I think. Like my friend asked me for advice on his swing, he wasn't setting his stance in relation to the shot or club he was hitting (like ball in the back foot for wedges etc), so I'm explaining this to him and his dad pipes up and says

"you may know something about golf but billy (not his real name) just hit a better shot than you"

and I want to be like yeah but billys handicap is 30 points higher and yours is 40...

but I didn't...this dudes ego was wildly fragile...typical of a guy in his mid 50s who's failed a lot and doesn't read much etc.

Anyway. This post is ultra long and pointless. I just remember that round as being one of the weirder ones. My swing is ok, but I don't waste shots around the green trying to do stupid shit, and I'm very strategic on the course, I hit a 5 iron off the tee on some par 4s for instance. If I'm under or near a tree and I'm 150-180 out I'll half swing a 3 iron etc. I always excelled at the strategy portion of the game. Knowing your limits, how far you hit each club, what the course, greens, wind etc is playing like these are all imperative parts of golf, but more than that it's probably my favorite sport because you're playing against yourself. You have to learn to control your emotions, and the game has a massive amount of depth, and you can always get better.

Now I’m thinking about it and can’t recall taking one shit at a golf course. Will cross it off the list next time.
Wait until the fall, bruh. Most golf course shitters don’t have AC. Doesn’t make for a pleasant finish to your round after sweating one out.

I really don’t care for meeting any of you but would be down for a Gregorian Birmingham game. We could post live in the OT: Golf thread.

Update. Played a par 3 course today to test out newer swing with irons. Was killing the ball today, hitting 9 iron around 150, 7 iron around 170, which is just crushing it for me. Got several pars so a solid day of improvement.

On the flip side, my chipping was never worse than today, so I guess you have to sacrifice one part of your game to improve at another.

birdied a par 5 at grand national today. Still shot a 103 but it was a sick birdie, 4 iron from under a tree 152 yards to 5 feet behind the hole and 1 putt.

Nope GreenBriar in Morris up there with the common folk. I haven’t played much at all. Went to Highland Park’s driving range the other day
How far are you willing to drive from Morris to play. Frank house is decent for a low cost course in Bessemer. Right off 59.
