OT: RE the CHUCK situation

5:00 EST I've fully convinced myself BRUCE had no knowledge of these shady dealings. Have zero to do with crootin and no way CHUCK gonna tell him he's taking coin on the side to steer players to some made up agency.

Gah we'd have been so much better off with TONY JONES. Guy has legit connex in the game that are vetted and not rats.

Lol, I do. I’ll go sit at the end of his driveway and wait for him.

why is the FBI getting involved with NCAA b-ball?
It is an FBI issue because of the wire fraud, corruption, etc., but it is also due to the fact that Auburn disbursed scholarship and Title IV funds to the two players that were paid impermissible benefits... so therefore they were not eligible for those funds. Auburn University was defrauded out of those federal funds by Chuck when he knowingly caused athletes to receive university and/or federal funds that they were not entitled to. So since AU is receives federal endowment, this can technically fall under their purview. NCAA will come digging around now, but I am actually thinking that there are more than a couple outs that could at least be in play. We will play up the victim card hard, and we will try to use the plausible deniability defense if we can... so there is at least some hope for our boys and BRUCE.

FBI wants Adidas, not these coaches imo.

Yeah. Dude pretty much fugged the program for 91k. If dawg needs 91k, JJ loves to sign checks. Just go ask him
It is pretty known around town that Chuck was hurting for money... he has had his hand out for a few years. Multiple bad business dealings have left him in massive debt.

He was desperate and saw this as a way to make a quick buck, while trying to help these kids transition to the pros... well, at least that is how he probably characterized it to himself. It was more akin to pimping out the players to a "friend" though in actuality.

Yikes. Feel bad for him, but this is good news for Bruce and the program. Makes it more believable that it was just a rogue coach and Bruce didn't know about it

UNIVERSITY 1 (Arben) is the VICTIM here. Let's remember that gang.

I think the Adidas thing is the only thing working in our favor. Being an Under Armour school, don’t know if Chuck will be the most valuable witness.

Bad: active coach payed playas
Good: sounds like nobody knew except for Chuck

Could def be worse, but it sure ain’t good

My very dim hope is that Bruce survives but it's ugly enough that nobody else wants to poach him because he's damaged goods at such a high level to the NCAA now. I'm just not sure how we could ever recruit at the level we need to in order for him to compete if he's got all this hanging over his head and likely a new compliance department, knowing Auburn, that makes the current one look like they signed off on the old SMU payment system and kept the books for it.

I'm just not seeing much light at the end of this tunnel. If you are UNC, Duke, Louisville you can come back from this stuff because blue bloods gonna blue blood. How do you return from this if you've basically been Vandy football in this sport.

Will we be in worse shape than when BRUCE got here? Talk about a rotten corpse of a program he inherited.

You mean his BASKETBOWL (Yes, a bowling alley) project in LUVERNE, AL was a bad idea?

There was also a batting cage and skating rink. They all kept the doors open for around 6 months.

Didn't read the full thread so SIAP but hoke is on the boog board saying he's almost positive that it's Wiley and purifoy that are the players involved.

haven’t had time to do a ton of digging...

I will say - all the references to meetings with players mothers seems odd if it involves Mustapha... his dad runs that show from everything I’ve read

Wiley is definitely one - but hopefully his mom is smart enough to keep Austin shielded from everything and he can skate a la Cam

regardless, the important thing is to keep BRUCE safe and sound... we could survive without a player or two for part or all of the season... but if BRUCE gets the ax the program is dead forever

Edit: he also claimed that Bruce never wanted person on staff. It was forced on him.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Just assumed Mustapha was the 2nd guy. Pretty sure Hoke works for the #1 Boog bball booster so he should know.

Tate reporting that player, Person, and the undercover witness that set this all up met with each other in NYC when we played boston college and player agreed to use this agent. Person was then paid for this. We screwed and AU basketball is over
AUSTIN was not on the team when this happened. Is this the only smoking gun on a player?

If we could lose Danjel for good, AUSTIN for half a season and retain BRUCE forever I'd be thrilled at this point.

Let's all be honest here on the GREG. Nobody is mad at Person for putting up a fight to compete, we're just mad he got caught.
All he was competing for is cash in his pocket. At least that's all these allegations state that he was competing for. I'd be much more inclined to back him if he were caught paying players to come to AU (no doubt he was), but to then turn around and stab AU in the back to line his pockets with less than 100k because he's a financial fvck up is unforgivable.

For the most part, everybody that's a fan will go with the Bruce didn't know narrative. And Bruce didn't want Chuck. And Bruce was forced to keep Chuck around these years. And they all knew Chuck was trouble. And they all knew Chuck had wasted away all his money.....always the same when coaches leave AU. Obviously it will be more exaggerated under these circumstances. Most of those same fans would have been naming Chuck HCIW if today's news had never dropped and we experienced the kind of success we were set up for the next four or five years.

Yes but Chuck is the one who effed up so he rightfully gets thrown under the bus. I don't know how much he was pushed on him but I suspect if Bruce had his way we'd have Tony Jones as top assistant and not Chuck.

We would be more screwed if he was caught paying players to come, but I would be less mad at him.

My buddy lives in Louisville and a HUGE fan. He said their morning radio show never went off the air today and they only had 4 commercial breaks all day. Word is Pitino will step down tomorrow and probably Jurich will follow.

I'm not arguing that at all. Just saying that in hindsight, everybody will say what you are saying. And not a single person anywhere on the boards was saying it before 8:00 am today.

I forget all the deets but he worked for that guy who is Hooks45 of the scout board.
Yeah, that was the (poor) joke. Hooks is an/the owner of BurgerFi, along with having his hands in several other things. He's pretty much the guy who hired Bruce Pearl.

Not saying you're wrong, I don't know all that much about Chuck, but I know for a fact the Pelicans offered Chuck close to a million dollars a year to be an assistant early this summer. I would think he would take that in a heartbeat if he needed money that bad.

That's the only smoking gun i know of. I'd be surprised if Wiley ever plays again at AU

I'm not debating anything you said here, but regardless of why they did it Chuck swayed some young STUDS to choose the boogs. We were on the verge of competing for the SEC and tournament berths because of them.
