OT: RE the CHUCK situation

Welcome! I just knew you had some knowledge of the Persons and thought you may want to share whatever you know with the board....

The first thing I thought of when I heard it was that he didn't come up with this himself. I knew someone had to not only put the idea in his head, but do much more than that.

I really hate he did that. He's good people. Not going to comment on other Persons.

Welcome to the best James Madison Football and Auburn Basketball board on the internet, glad you could join us. Your opinion on this effecting Bruce's employment status?

My very dim hope is that Bruce survives but it's ugly enough that nobody else wants to poach him because he's damaged goods at such a high level to the NCAA now. I'm just not sure how we could ever recruit at the level we need to in order for him to compete if he's got all this hanging over his head and likely a new compliance department, knowing Auburn, that makes the current one look like they signed off on the old SMU payment system and kept the books for it.

I'm just not seeing much light at the end of this tunnel. If you are UNC, Duke, Louisville you can come back from this stuff because blue bloods gonna blue blood. How do you return from this if you've basically been Vandy football in this sport.
IF the bruce survives and the team stays together and has a good season, i think he could continue to pull good talent, maybe just not GREAT talent.

@cookedw whats the word from around the internet this am?

Nothing new from what I have seen. I'm curious as to who is and isn't practicing when practice begins on Friday.

The best case scenario from what I can see, is Chuck was lying (or nothing can be proven) when he claimed to have given money to a player and no money was ever provided (he just pocketed the money). Which is completely far fetched considering how much he lied.

CP is some kind of dumb. All this over a fake agent.

The fed's will have all his bank records, so it shouldn't be that hard to see if the money came in and then went back out in a lump sum.

Yeah I cant believe these guys and the Adidas rep. I'm just picturing some dood with a fake mustache undercover as NBA Agents Inc. Like how dumb are you guys.

That's my hope as well that Chuck just said he was giving a cut but never delivered which seems plausible to me. We need everyone to stand behind BRUCE. Make JJ the fall guy if we need one. Win win.

They have recordings of meetings with parents, right? They met in NYC after the Boston college game. I have a hard time believing they didn't get some cash

Hearing some rumbles about Malzahn hosting b-ball recruits at his place for a BBQ...fingahs crossed

not really, but an e-persona can hope

From people I've talked with that know Chuck, he's just all around dumb. I can totally see him not even thinking about the possibility that what he was doing might be even the slightest bit illegal. Against NCAA rules? Sure. They pound compliance on those fools like there's no tomorrow at AU. But as for it being a federal crime to do what he was doing? That dumb SOB never had a clue.

Agreed, sounds like he really likes the sound of his own voice, so I could totally seeing the "agent" stroking his ego and getting him lined up for the "easy money." Just sucks that this happens right as we're set to take off.
At least he wasn't paying players to come to AU.

Agreed but how much of that alleged $18k did they get and how much did the kids know about it? If they only got like a few k each and the kids weren't directly receiving should be a decent chance they can play this year.

It's just so crazy the FBI is like here's half a mil go out there and give out bags of cash pretending you're an aspiring agent.

AU offering full refund for season bball tickets. Yikes

What happens if the families pay back the 18k or whatever they received? Would it be possible for the players to regain eligibility?
My opinion is yes. I think once you get around $10k for a player it might be dicey. As referenced in the Gurley case he got over $3k and only missed 30% of the season. I'd feel better if less than the $18 was actually distributed.
