I’m not sure if I labeled the genre correctly, but any recs on sports podcasts that are more light hearted and funny? I like Pardon My Take but needing to add more to my arsenal and not looking for a “talking ball” podcast

sports and comedy is a tough mix... “serious” sports fans are inherently humorless

I don’t listen to it every week but I at least support Cousin Sal and subscribe to his gambling podcast Against All Odds...

Chris Vernon is a fun listen each Tuesday on The Ringer NBA Show - but the rest of the tryhards on that feed will make you want to give up following sports for good... his Tuesday co-host Kevin O’Connor is super super smart but terribly boring and doesn’t really understand nuance and is generally unable to comprehend the subtle differences of opinion that Verno has... its funny when Verno lights his ass up on something and won’t let it go, but unless you like a ton of NBA talk that one will get old for you quickly

just search for Shea Serrano and listen to anything he’s done... he’s been on Bill Simmons a few times, and contributes to a lot of other Ringer podcasts... he’s legitimately funny, a good storyteller, and ridiculous enough that you never know where he’s going with different things

I’ve heard Vernon on JOX a few times and he is a great listen. Hate to hear his cohost sucks because he is funny

Never heard of Shea Serrano but I’ll give him a look

I should add that I find absolutely nothing appealing, redeeming, or entertaining about anything Barstool Sports related... so I may not be the best guide
I don’t know much about that brand other than Instagram videos people send me occasionally, but the PMT guys just nail it on all the silliness of the hot takes that all serious sports people take. I think they could go create their own brand and be successful

Outkick The Coverage with Clay Travis is absolutely hilarious
Does he do a podcast or just the FB Live stuff? I don’t have a FB to do his live videos.

I like Clay. I probably liked him more before he got as popular as he has but I still enjoy seeing him rip people. I read his book in 2007 about visiting all the SEC stadiums and he was a nobody then.

Shea may be an acquired taste, but give him a fair shot

a lot of times Vernon’s co-host adds to the humor because he’s such a goob that he’s an easy target and Vernon can really play off of it well... but once you’ve listened a while you can tell when he’s about to ruin a segment by being so gd obtuse

You really find him funny?

I like the PMT guys. I wish they’d break away from Barstool bc I hate that brand
Yeah i think the PMT guys are really talented. Both of them are so quick witted, and don’t take themselves or anything too seriously

His podcast is just a recording of his early morning radio show but without the commercials.

from what I’ve heard and people I trust, I’d probably enjoy a lot of the PMT stuff once I listened enough to understand all of the inside jokes... I just can’t get past the general Barstool stench... they’re guilty by association

Oh heck yea. His polls, sports takes, and animal thunder dome are absolutely hilarious.

He’s also a lawyer which brings an interesting point of view on lots of diff topics

I know who he is and his background. I think he’s smart. I don’t find him funny or clever. I usually cringe at his jokes but I appreciate his candor

Oh. I think the Shutdown Fullcast is funny during football season. It’s totally casual and low budget and not very prepared but they’re all funny guys and hit some really funny moments at times

I've followed Clay's stuff since the pudding strike days and even hung out with him in the mid-2000's. Always thought he'd find a Finebaum-like niche to fill, and he has done that well. Funny smart guy, and was a cool, if not somewhat smug fellow in person, but he has evolved into a world class narcissist over the last few years, and his real life e-persona can be a bit much at times.

Yeah. He comes across as a world class narcissist. I used to think it was schtick but it’s also obvious that no one wants to work with him and or he thinks he’s too good to work with anyone else. He’s reaching a plateau and his brand will only get bigger if he gets talent to work for him but he’s too scared that someone could use his platform to get bigger than him

I think he has the Hannity Syndrome. You play a character too long, you become the character.

Feel free to weigh in, AUBK.

Well you got PMT. My buddy swears by Shutdown Fullcast. I haven’t listened to them yet but I’ve subscribed. Some of the other Barstool offerings might be good. I personally find El Presidente hilarious but PFT commenter and Big Cat are something special.

I would say the BOOGDOWN but I guess there’s a lawsuit or some stuff.

I assume ESPN makes the LeBatard Show into a podcast. It's the best sports radio show of all time.
I meant to comment about it in the OP. They release it and even give a “Best Of” for that day with about an hour of content.

Great show. The Looks Like segment is the only time I’ve ever had to pull over from laughing so hard

Kind of a bummer they don't do the whole show. Lots of nuance missed I'd imagine. The best part to me is Greg Cote. I think he's in studio on Tuesdays.

But yeah the Looks Like game with Tim Kurkjian is one of the best things in this world.

Oh they have it all, I just do best of on the commute home to catch as much as possible.

Greg Cote is great, agreed

Sports media superstar Clay Travis wants to save sports from the social justice warriors seeking to turn them into another political battleground.

Have you ever tuned into your favorite sports highlights show, only to find the talking heads yammering about the newest Trump tweets or what an athlete thinks about the second amendment? The way Clay Travis sees it, sports are barely about sports anymore. Whether it’s in the stadium or the studio, the conversation isn’t about who’s talented and who stinks. It’s about who said the right or wrong thing from the sidelines or on social media. And we know which side is playing referee in that game.

Having ruined journalism and Hollywood, far left-wing activists have now turned to sports. Travis argues it’s time for right-thinking fans everywhere to put down their beers and reclaim their teams and their traditions. In Republicans Buy Sneakers, Too he replays the arguments he’s won and lays out all the battles ahead. His goal is simple: to make sports great again.

Travis wants sports to remain the great equalizer and ultimate meritocracy—a passion that unites Americans of all races, genders, and creeds, providing an opportunity to find common ground and an escape from polarizing commentary. He takes readers through the recent politicization of sports, controversy by controversy and untalented-but-celebrated hero by hero, and skewers outlets like ESPN which spend more time mimicking MSNBC than covering sports.

Travis hopes that if we can stop sports from being just another political battlefield, and return it to our common ground, we can come together as a country again.
