*** Boogs v NC State ***

He looked like a contributor tonight scoring wise, but he was not good running the point in my opinion. Did make me feel better about his potential though.
Yeah he had some bad TO’s. Not really sure why were playing Jared off the ball so much when he’s in the game

It’s just annoying as hell to play like that but fortunately we’re still a work in progress with Austin and Danjel and Jvon looked pretty fuggin good so whatev this season is all about our march to Minneapolis.

Best 3 players tonight
McCormick
Wiley
Dunbar

If the starting backcourt was just mediocre tonight we win a big road game. They instead were absolutely terrible. Harper looks tired and Bryce is on one of his mental funks where he can’t get out of his own way. Hopefully this sparks is a bit.

Purifoy looks like a dude who has spent 2 years on a planet without a basketball to play with. Gonna take a long time to get him back to what he can be

Just looked at the stats our bench scored 43. WTF what a meltdown from our starters.
Tho k we know what our pope Ted plan is. Shut down Bryce and Jared. We gonna have to play inside game more but dang chuma has got to step up imo. He’s not brining as much as he needs to.

If you can’t shoot on the road it’s because you are a gigantic pussy.

If you can shoot 30-40% in your gym and you shoot less than 10% on the road you are a gigantic gaping pussy

Didn’t get to shoot around? Give me a GD break. Grow TF up and untuck your junk and play some GD basketball.

I hope we can grown some nuts gang or it will be a long season away from The Clam

Love this team and the talent is there to go deep. I am so discouraged by our lack of moxy and maturity on the road. I’m just afraid we are trending to not fulfill the potential on this team

Hoping Bruce gets in an ass or 10 and rights the ship

Maybe finally losing will help some of them relax. They have played so tight the last few games.

I said the same thing to @StretchAUrmstrong before the game started and feel that way even more now

I think we need to figure out an identity and a rotation. If that means risking some early SEC games while we work it out I'm fine with that, because right now this isn't a coherent offense or system.

I'd like to see us stick with 4 shooters and a big and play that way. Wiley starts. No more 3's for Horace and I don't really care to see them from Anfernee either. He wasn't shooting a ton of the last year and we were still a matchup nightmare for most teams with him at the 5. The 4 is gonna need to be Chuma/Danjel IMO. Feed Wiley when he's on the court. He's gotta learn to kick out at the right time and when to repost but that's all going to happen the more touches he gets.

Jesus H. With 43 from our bench, we should have scored 100+ easily.

This one really pisses me off. We played like complete trash and were still in position to win. Our D was suffocating for long stretches so it was not an effort issue. We just can't shoot away from home for whatever reason. BRUCE identified the issue and came out of the half with a good strategy. Feed Austin, rinse repeat. He scores on 4 straight trips and then we don't get him the ball again for 12 minutes? That rustles me badly. I love Bruce, but he has got to see that issue and call a TO to remind the guys we are feeding Austin until they stop him. We could have mixed in some drives and dishes to Austin or Chuma. They had zero answer to that stuff.

This isn't a bad loss, they were top 20 in most of the computers. Its a game we should have won though and it will hurt us on selection Sunday. Instead of a stellar OOC where we beat everyone but Duke, we let our second toughest game that was infinitely winnable get away due to a lapse in strategy.

Agreed. Austin could have scored 30 tonight if we would have gotten him enough post feeds. Going away from him after he scored on 4 straight trips blew me away. Not sure if that was the guys making bad decisions or Bruce calling plays, but its on Bruce for not taking a TO and insisting we force them to stop Austin before we do anything else. That chaulkie with the pony tail looked helpless against him.

We better show up on Saturday. Ja Morant is an animal and will single handily beat us if we play like we did tonight.

I suspect we’ll spend a lot of time between now and SEC play figuring out how to play through Austin. There was one play where I think Jared kind of set a screen in the paint to free him up that was pretty sweet. Don’t know if that was even designed but we struggle to get it to him even when we want to.

Wouldn’t hurt my feeling to see Malik get some mins at 4 if Danjel isn’t ready. Horace definitely does his best work at 5.

Bryce just needs to chill he thinks the O runs through him at all times.

Jvon impresed need to let him give Jared a blow more often. Showed a lot tonight and we need to keep Jared fresh for the long haul.

Agreed. There were some positives tonight. Javon showed he can help us on O. That put back dunk he had was filthy. Austin also showed he can dominate if we can get him the ball in the kind of matchup he had tonight. Sucks he probably could have had 30 and carried us to the W, but we chose to go away from him. He had 1v1 matchup a number of times the rest of the game and we only fed it to him on one more trip. That blows me away.

Surely this is our floor on offense. If so, I guess that's a positive as well because this shit ass performance would have likely won half our SEC road games likely given that NC State would probably finish between 3rd and 5th in the SEC this year.

guys, NC state was a good team no doubt. very athletic and that one guy playing at the 4 got every junk shot to drop.
Didn't get to watch much of the game, but what i did see showed we still shoot like ass away from the clam. These guys are really out of sink right now and i'm not sure if it'd the glut of talent or that we don't have guys willing to take charge. Defence looked pretty hit or miss (mostly miss) all that said they still had a chance to win this eve but couldn't put it together. I have to wonder if all these one game weeks have killed their rhythm. Need to come out and turn it around in an impressive way at Murray St or conference play could go south in a hurry.

Defense wasn't bad tonight. We stifled them for long stretches and had a ton of steals. Defense kept us in the game in the first half when we couldn't score to save our lives.

Agree on your takeaway though. We played terribly, an F game on offense, and still had a shot at the end to beat a good team on the road. Also agree we need to turn it around this weekend. Murray St can beat us if we play terribly.

As I said in the Boog, McCormick needs PT BIG TIME. That kid is FUN to watch. This game was so winnable.. frustrating

I really thought our on ball defense by Harper and Brown was poor.

Kind of wild that the top three scorers all came from the bench. McCormick just had too much speed for his defender and, with them playing a high press, he was able to find a bunch of space inside. He and Jared really are the only guys on the team that can blow buy guys off the dribble. Can't believe they didn't try to feed Chuma more in the post. He and Austin got whatever they wanted down there. Bryce was trash and it was vintage freshman Bryce where he just got totally rattled and started taking more and more piss poor shots. And Mac basically did nothing all game so that was nice.

We held them to 78 and known defensive power Wisconsin held them to 75 and I believe we gave them almost 3 times as many turnovers than the Badgers did. You give up 25 turnovers to a really explosive offensive team on the road and you are probably giving up 90+. There were a couple of bad stretches of defensive play, but on the whole I thought it was good.

Its tempting to make big sweeping judgements about the offense. Really seems like most of the issue is just bad shooting. It's not all of it because we're making more bad decisions than I'd like to see with so many experienced players, but that feels like it's 20% of the problem and "missing shots we normally make" is almost all of the rest. I don't even feel like we're taking as many bad, long, contested 3's this season as we did during stretches last season.

I thought we were overall good defensively, but those 2 guys were the ones that I saw having mental lapses or just flat getting beat. Brown is in that funk again where missing shots is making him do stupid things everywhere. He can't catch a pass and can't play defense all of the sudden. Could be a rough film session for our "best backcourt in the SEC"

yeah, i missed most of the 1st half, was bryce pulled or did he get a few fouls that saw McCormick get more time?

Pulled. Dude was dropping passes that were easy layups in transition or on backdoor cuts, losing his man defensively and making terrible decisions and not hitting any shots. His first half was a total train wreck. Maybe the worst half I've seen him play at Auburn.

Bryce was the worst Bryce we’ve ever seen in the first half. Just absolutely looked like he didn’t belong
Wonder if he puts too much pressure on himself in these bigger games. It's one thing to disappear it's another for it to look like the stage is just too big. His game is fairly balanced but scouts are going to keep seeing him fade against athletic teams. Hope the light comes on soon.

He had a solid game against Duke so I wouldn’t think so. He just has a hard time getting himself out of a funk once he gets into it

Feels like in big games he needs to have some good plays early or it starts to snowball on him. Once it gets truly bad theres no coming back. (Malik has some off this too but it's not as damaging as it is when it's Brown)
