SEC Basketball Thread

They go to UF, UK, MSST, AU. That’s 4 l’s. UF and UT at home and they are both better than Mizzou....you may get it.

I think they need a 5-4 finish to secure a bid. 4-5 with a 1st round loss in SECT is 18-14. I think their RPI would fall out of top 40 at that point. And no SECT game is a cakewalk now.

I will never understand why they ran Mark Gottfried out of town.

He wasn't really that much better than Avery in doing the whole "putting a basketball product on the floor" with the elite talent they had, but I get the sentiment.

Bama and A&M are both really talented but also terribly inconsistent.

Still can’t believe we lost to those bums just bc Petty had a freak night and we couldn’t hit FTs

Crazy stat about last night. Before bama starting fouling on purpose at the end, Bama had a 32 to 9 advantage at the FT line over Mizzou and were still losing (ended up 32 to 15).

A&M just baffles me. They should be a national title contender. I get the early losses due to suspension and injuries, but they should be bettwe than they are. They did beat Arky pretty good on Tuesday, so maybe they are about to hit their stride.

Bama should be better than what they are. But Avery holds them back, IMO. Just not a very good coach.

Avery and the Bobs are hot garbage...but dangerous hot garbage

Agreed. As bad as they look at times, they're talented enough to go on the road to Gainesville or Lexington and win a game. Their losses are to UGA, OM, Vandy, and Mizzou. Seems like they have a hard time getting up for games they should probably win, which is a sign of a young team.

I also think Avery's offense is detrimental to them. If they were running a fast paced up and down the court offense, their athleticism would take over and win them a lot more games. This is a complete guess on my part, but they just have so many athletic rangy guys that don't look great in half-court offense.

Yeah, I think they'd be much better served as a full-court press team, try to force a bunch of turnovers, and play as much in transition as possible.

all true, but I see no signs of the kind of consistency it takes to make any type of tourney run. They may bounce UK or UF from the SECT and then lose to UGA in the next round. That would be completely within their current DNA.

For sure. They can't seem to carry any momentum over from one game to the next. Last night was a perfect example. They're going to be that way all season IMO. If they could ever figure out how to string together a few games of good play on both ends, they'd be dangerous. Not sure Avery knows how to get that out of them though.

Seems like they can't score unless Petty gets hot. He's not even a great shooter and can't create for himself. He gets hot they are tough as we've seen.

Sexton took 16 shots. Nobody else took more than 6. There’s your trouble.

I didn’t really feel like it was a bad, Trae Young type game, where he forced it too much. They just were too lackadaisical down the stretch allowing him to dribble clock away waiting for a high screen. They played the last 3 minutes like it was 65-65 instead of 58-65. That’s on AJ for sure.

same reason NC State did... he wasted more talent there than he did at Bama... he had a guy last year - Dennis Smith Jr - every bit as good as Sexton and did even less with him than Avery is doing with his bunch this year

Gottfried was a great fit at BAMA because he’s a world class bag man - and I mean that as a compliment... but he’s a literal mouthbreather - that’s not hyperbole, I’ve been in the same room with the guy

The round table guys are all bammers but they all hated dealing with him.

Yeah I didn’t get to watch, but that’s a huge red flag on the stat sheet.

Wimp's been day drink'n again...lucky bastard.

few years back I was in a charity golf scramble thing and got paired with Wimp. He gave me hell as the one AU fan in the group but when we started actually talking hoops and he realized I truly cared about the game he was super cool. Also, he was pulling on a flask all day long and was hammered by noon. I was jealous.

Sounded like he had gotten in to the old cough medicine before his appearance on the show today

First - Thanks for the reassurance that I am not on the ole ignore list.

Second- It just seemed that he had his ua squads in the post season more than not. Getting kicked at NC State is understandable being the ACC, I would expect them to care more about hoops. That assumption may be wrong on my part though. The SEC and a football power like ua makes me think he was perfect for them. Again post seasons on the reg, Advancement here in the tourney from time to time, just seems good fit. Has ua made the tourney since he left? Seems like their drought is along the lines of the boogs.

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I have no idea how to interpret this data. I’m new to caring in-depth about college basketball beyond the W/L column. As a boog only basketball fan, can you blame me?

To us boogs, it should just go to show how impressive our wins @Mizzou, @UT, and @OleMyth were!

Basically, it’s ESPN’s way of putting a percentage on who will win a game based on analytics. I started posting and tracking it after a conversation on here about how often the home team wins where they’re at least 60% favorites.

So, after extrapolating the data, what is our conclusion to the question of how often the home team wins where they’re at least a 60% favorite?
