SEC Basketball Thread

Just watched the last 2 minutes of UF/UK but the refs will be lucky to get iut of Rupp alive. Don’t see them NOT get calls at home very often.

Duf’s updated SEC rankings

1. Florida
2. Kentucky
3. Auburn
4. Tennessee
5. Arkansas
6. Bama
7. aTm
8. Mizzou
9. UGA
10. Ole Miss
11. South Carolina
12. Miss St
13. LSU
14. Vandy

From 9-13, not a whole lot of separation for me. Feel like any of those teams could go just about anywhere. Still have Kentucky ahead of Auburn because I think they’re really talented and very good when playing their best, but I’m close to making that change.

So here are the numbers for the first three sessions of SEC games. Looking at home teams and their success against the BPI number, especially those at 60% or better.

aTm at Bama: 53/47
Tenn at Ark: 32/68
Vandy at Florida: 22.5/77.5
S Carolina at Ole Miss: 36/64
UGA at Kentucky: 18/82

Auburn at Tenn: 30/70
Ole Miss at UGA: 30/70
Kentucky at LSU: 49/51
Ark at Miss St: 60/40
Mizzou at SCarolina: 47/53
Florida at aTm: 29/71
Bama at Vandy: 37/63

Bama at UGA: 45.5/54.5
Florida at Mizzou: 39/61

State at Ole Miss: 44/56
Arkansas at Auburn: 36.5/63.5
Vandy at S Carolina: 42.5/57.5
Kentucky at Tenn: 32/68

Home teams are 13-6. Home teams that are 60%+ are 8-4. There have been only two BPI favorites on the road, and they both lost (aTm at Bama and Ark at State).

I'd have put it about the same for boog v. Mizzou. Not insurmountable by any stretch but it will take smarter play in the first half.

Can someone with more nba scouting knowledge tell me why Yante Maten isn’t considered a better prospect?

The simple way to say it is that he's not big enough to play the 4 or 5 and not quick enough to guard a 3. Thats what experts say. I think he is going to be a steal for whomever takes him regardless. He's has worked his ass off to get better. I would want him on my team if I was a NBA guy.

Yeah. I don’t think he’s gonna be an nba star or anything but he’s just got so much legit game. Plus, he’s got a really pretty and pure shot from deep for such a big guy

Agree on his shot. And in college, it’s huge that he can shoot 10 FT’s a night and make 8 or 9. I think he will be a solid player for a long time in the league. If he was 3 inches taller, with the same wingspan, I’d believe he’d be a Tim Duncan type. If he could shoot a little better, I’d compare him to Evil Chuck P. Not a ton of athleticism, but old school good.

Hate the we aren’t getting the extra exposure from the Challenge games this weekend. We need our enemies to show out and get some W’s for our conference rankings.

Think what BRUCE would do with a stud like Maten. I don’t see how Fox makes it to those 2019 studs they’re trying to load up.
Exactly what I’m thinking too but I also kind of hope Uga keeps his bum ass. No need for Uga to get caught up in the sec hoops arm race too

Yeah I’ll be supporting the conference. Except for bama of course. Maybe UGA. SEC would be blessed to go 5-5 looking at the matchups.

I'd like them to lose just to really push the "they are better without Sexton" theme towards hilarious levels. He's not been good at all tonight so them falling when he's poor would make it even better IMO.

Jesus A&M, you are bad

I'm not sure why I keep thinking they are just going to turn it on and be really good like everyone thought they were going to be, but I keep being shocked that they aren't there. It's like I can't get that brief time they were a Top 5 ranked team out of my head. You can't lose twice to LSU and be okay. Something is really wrong there, like down at the core. This isn't just injury related.

They caught our boogs on a bad night and no matter how much shit they talk, they know it.

I legit think they play better offensive ball without Sexton and they can't figure out how to work with him on the floor. They can't find the balance between having him do too much and having him be a guy standing in the corner without the ball (lot of that in the 2nd half tonight). There seems to be no plan that has worked once SEC play started in regards to making their offense click and I'm starting to wonder if they'll figure it out.

It's weird because Hall is playing so much better this year but Key can't seem to figure out his role and Ingram is now the PG or their key ball handler? They also seem to rely on Petty hitting 3's even more than we've relied on Brown. If he's not hitting, they ain't winning.

Sexton and Petty went a combined 3-21 tonight from the field. Petty’s game against us was a got damn enigma.
