Hey @AuWaterfowl you if anyone you know talk to the coaches about the game? I remember you siad the coaches told ppl they felt really good about Kansas before we played them.
Really think our offense matches their style of defense well. Now UVA has the personnel to maximize that style, but it just seems like a poor fit to defend our offense. Starting to like that matchup.

This the best I’ve felt about any game in the tourney including NM St. Their PG is trash. They are decidedly unathletic. No depth.
Obviously Hunter is a potential issue without our beloved Dr C. He hasn’t done much their last few games but no secret that’s the matchup in their advantage. They play so slow and don’t crash the glass we should be able to stay out of foul trouble. I know Ho can check anybody. Hopefully Danjel can just hold up on D, rebound and make a few shots.
Im honestly dumbfounded by what the stat nerds say about our chances in this one. We still have the depth to pressure them the length of the court for 40 mins if we want to get them out of their tempo. They ain’t seen anybody with our speed, athelticism, tenacity and ability to rain it from deep at all 5 spots.

Exactly. I get they “don’t turn the ball over” and “defend the 3 well” but, dang, they haven’t faced anyone as good as us at causing turnovers or hitting 3s. Why does their strengths matter so much but ours are just tossed out like our strengths don’t matter?
I’m going to need a few of those. The nerves are starting to kick in.

I don’t care what the efficiency metrics say - I buy into Denim Vest’s “their trash style of play has broken KenPom” theory... there’s zero chance they can defend us better than Kentucky can
we’ve seen better defenses - we will get our shots - our offensive performance is largely dependent on what we do because if we’re “on” they don’t have a counter or adjustment to make
on the flip side - our defensive numbers are skewed by how many offensive rebounds we allow... I’d wager our “first shot” defense is much better than we’re given credit for, and our ball pressure (and how far out we force teams to initiate offense) is underrated... we’re going to give Guy and Jerome more trouble than they anticipate, and they’re not a kill you on the offensive glass team
we’re built to exploit their weaknesses... they’re not built to exploit our
maybe shooting in that trash stadium eff’s us... maybe they make contested shots all night and we miss open ones... it’s not a shock if we lose - they’re really good... but if we play well, they can’t beat us... not “they won’t”... if we play well, they can’t
That’s what I’m curious about. If we come out and fill it up early from 3s they’re basically conceding to us, what do they do? Do they extend their ball pressure? Do they defend ball screens differently? Are they capable or equipped to alter their defensive philosophy if we start dominating that ass from 3? I don’t think they can. And preferably, I’d like to hold off on booging hard until the second half when they have zero ability to significantly alter their plan.
Also their hyper focus on setting up their defense and not getting beat in transition probably helps us by allowing us to clean up the defensive glass easier, which is a benefit to us.

He thought we were Virginia fans and that’s why he came up to us. I let him know he’s no longer welcome and needs to leave our table. Some people have no respect for others.
We wound up at Rock Bottom Pub. All of the main street restaurants were two hour waits, and our wives were not having that.

An important factor is going to be that UVA does not try to get offensive rebounds. They send 3 guys back on defense with every shot because they would rather get their D set up than get 2nd chance points. Defensive rebounding is our greatest weakness so its a huge advantage for us that they have no interest in exploiting that. This should drastically increase our effectiveness on D as we give up so many second chance points.
