++++Official Bama vs Boogs Game Thread++++

Not too shabby for a boog squad still hitting its stride.

Back to seeing the best back court in the country. B and J were electric last night. Bryce on another planet from 3. Both guys getting to the rim and finishing more.

Thought Ho indeed got the better of Hall. His coast to coast finger roll my favorite play of the night among many highlights.

Chuma being a stud. He’s doing stuff on another level. Numbers weren’t amazing but he was the best rebounder on the court against the presumed best rebounding team in the SEC. Just freak next level stuff with Js and the dimes and the finishes on top of everything else he already does.

Jvon continues to impress me. Dude is so explosive off the dribble has some drives and finishes that make Jared blush. 4 assist 0 TO.

Only critiques were letting Petty and Reese get loose which seemed primarily on Samir and Danjel. Mac got taken once by Reese which is just unacceptable. Samir’s game continues to irk me even though the stats don’t look terrible.

Thoughts from the game:

To me the biggest difference was a willingness to mix in enough drives to the basket so that they couldn’t just attempt to defend the 3.

bama is a trash club, would love to complete the sweep at Clam West.

If doctor Chuma shot the ball on every possession he would put up at least 80 a game. He makes baskets that nobody else on the team is capable of making.

Ho-daddy knows only one speed. If you give him enough minutes he will foul out, but we are lucky to have someone who hates the other team scoring the way he does. The coast to coast was amazing.

Danjel is gettting closer and closer. And he isn’t selfish, he gives up the ball to open shooters.

Bryce drove to the basket well and created. There were a few times he got a little dribble happy but I don’t remember it resulting in negative plays. It felt like he had a purpose or an idea of what he was doing while he was doing it.

Obviously Mac’s shooting stands out but both he and Horace weren’t hurting us offensively.

Last night was an example of how good we can be. When Austin returns we need him to mesh with what we’re doing. That’s the ceiling of this team. He can do what Horace did on O and we can also feed him the ball some in the post.

Last night was good for my soul.

the lull coming out of the half still concerns me, yes all teams have them. The guys have to find away to change up the approach so they don't go 7 mins with only scoring 6pts. I'm not sure if that was more symptomatic or Bryce/Jared resting or if Bruce changed the offense but those lulls are something you can't afford on the road in the SEC.

We got a little baffled when they switched to zone. Got to find a way to adapt and not go stagnant when that happens

I had to listen on the radio while I was driving, it was AUful, but the win was sweet.

Copious makeup sects and back to back BASKETBALL wins really helped me get through this last week.

4th in the SEC Standings is still achievable, 5th is very doable. We'll have to prove ourselves from here through the SEC tourney to be taken seriously again, imo.

ALL HAIL BRUCE. Also, lol at the mouthbreathers who'd already been letting out flatulence regarding this team's demise.

Interesting

terrifying... but Danjel is rapidly improving

I’ve been saying we need 2 of Jared/Bryce/Chuma on the court at all times, but it’s not crazy to think that by March he’s in that mix... he’s not our 4th best player - or 4th most important - but because of our rotations and offensive sets, he’s going to get some important touches and have his chances to impact games offensively, even with limited minutes or shots

Danjel's mood has improved drastically of late. Really feeling it after this W...

outside of Ho Daddy’s coast to coast, nothing warmed my heart more than Danjel’s trail 3 on the 3-on-1 break... he’s better than he looked his first games back - and that’s partly on him for not being in shape and being ready to play... but I’m amazed at how much he’s been shit on by most of our fans... he’s being severely underestimated - and he’s going to win a game or games for us before the end of the year

watched bits and pieces last night, but rewatched the full game this morning... I’m not getting my hopes up until we Boog all over a good squad on the road, but we’re doing what we need to do right now to be ready by March

last year we peaked too soon... this year, it’s a long, LONG, way off - but we’ve got all the pieces to be peaking in March, and that’s what I’ve been saying since December... I wasn’t going to be alarmed until we lost one of the 2 home games this past week... not only did we win, we played the best 60 minute stretch we’ve played all season the last 3 halves

let those tryhard jabronis in Knoxville try to go 6 months playing at their best... let’s see how that works out for them... they know who the real champs were last year, so if they need to kill themselves to win the regular season, then good for them... I still think by the time we play them on Senior Night I’ll like where we’re at more than them, and I won’t believe otherwise until we get bounced early and they make the Final Four

digging into the weeds a little more on the little baby steps of progress...

we’re up to 38% from 3 as a team, and 70% from the line... the shooting is gradually improving... and it’s not just a home cooking thing... lost in the misery of the close losses is the fact we’ve shot it well 6 of the last 7 games, and actually 7 of 8 from 3 we just couldn’t buy a bucket in the paint against Ole Miss

@ Ole Miss - 14 makes, 36%
vs UGA - 12 makes, 48%
@ aTm - 13 makes, 38%
vs UK - 13 makes, 43%
@ SC - 7 makes, 28%
@ Miss St - 11 makes, 52%
vs Mizzou - 16 makes, 39%
vs Bama - 13 makes, 59%

we’re working on 5 weeks of shooting it well aside from that garbage SC squad gooning things up like only they can

individually,

Bryce 41% on almost 9 attempts/game

Jared still 39% from 3, but up to 40% from the field - it’s the first time I can remember his numbers from 2 being better than from 3 all season... he’s using that 10-12 foot dribble pull-up more - and finishing better at the rim when he does pick and choose his spots to press the defense

Chuma up to 34% from 3 - 6/10 the last 3 games, up to 50% from the field... no reason he can’t be a 40% guy from 3 and push 60% from the field the way he’s got those bum forwards for most teams outclassed

Danjel 39% from 3 on the year, 4/6 from 3 & 6/9 overall the last 3 games, and after playing more minutes due to foul trouble and struggling against UK and SC then getting buried on the bench at Miss St, his minutes have gone from 5 to 11 to 15 as he’s earning more minutes by his play, rather than playing out of necessity... he’s driving and attacking the basket more, starting to move better on defense, and he’s been physical as shit defensively all year... it’s shocking how physical he’s playing... he’s playing like a thicc Ho Daddy, and if he can get a little more burst, I can’t overstate how much he can help us

just little, incremental improvements that are combining into a “whole is greater than the sum of the parts” thing

we’ve got a ways to go to prove we’re as good as we’ve looked the last 60 minutes... but we’re far better than we looked during the 3 game losing streak... but I’m starting to get ideas... and the numbers are confirming the eye test

Great post. We were incredibly unlucky to lose those 3 in a row. With any luck and decent officiating, we'd be sitting at 6-2 in SEC play right now, ranked in the top 10.

There was a time in the first half where Chuma, Horace, Bryce, and Jared were all on the bench. I did not like that lineup on the floor.

Barring emergencies, at least one of Chuma, Jared, or Bryce needs to be on the floor at all times
