I'm just not buying the crypts part. Supposedly in the books, the crypts have iron in them and apparently the WW's hate iron. The iron was put there so the dead would never rise.

I don't see baby Sam and Gilly getting merked. I think Sam is one of those characters that lives a long happily ever after with his fam.

here are a few cool nugs

That was a crazy episode but also kind of just odd. I think it’s just that the whole zombie army thing causes it to lose its gravitas. The Arya in the library scene was totally a waste of time. Glad though that the white walkers are over and let’s get down to the iron throne

I enjoyed it but I'm so confused/let down by the army of the dead/Night King story. I mean was that entire thing just a mechanism to weaken the far superior force so that the fight with Kings Landing/Cersei is more even now? Like, we started the damn series with the walkers, but in the end I'm not sure they were anything other than a distraction. Just....weird. It's also so predictable that they'd get their asses absolutely handed to them and be completely dominated and then one long shot move kills everything.

Need to process this one a bit.

Yeah. That’s the whole thing though. The white walkers were always just gonna be a side piece. They got built up but not nearly enough to actually be the ultimate antagonist. It is what it is. With absolutely almost zero backstory and character development on them, they were never going to be the actual endgame like people thought. Sucks but I’m glad they’re gone

Feel the same. The only thing that gives me solace (though quite reluctantly) is that it makes me feel like the books are going to have a way different ending if Martin can finish them before he dies. But obviously I could be wrong, maybe this is what he always planned to do, but I highly doubt it.

Personally think it had to do with money. Tougher to make them the villain they were supposed to be. It’s akin to how the dire wolves aren’t nearly the characters they were supposed to be.

Agreed. I do not see how there is going to be any battle in the final 3 episodes. How many people survived this battle? 99% of the dothraki are dead. 90% of the unsullied died. In the final shots, it looked like no more than a few hundred of the entire army of the north survived. And now they are going to march on king's landing?

Im sure part of the end of this will be gaining allegiance of those who were not in the battle.

I’m torn also because I decided that maybe it was meant to be a scenario where they kill the night king first. The logistics make more sense, but it feels like we missed too much of the story.

Everything was good except for Jon. Dude was playing hide and seek

Jon Snow is the worst battlefield planner in the realm. He is extremely naive and his plans almost always fail, he's had to be rescued by every member of his family and half his friends now. He probably should have been dead 12 times. Love the guy, rooting for him to make it to the end....but can someone please kick him out of the room when they are drawing up the attack on King's Landing.

Also Bran can die now. He has no more purpose, right. Can he spend the first 20 minutes of the next episode telling everyone the secrets he knows and then just get stabbed or something. Turn into a bird and fly away never to be seen again. Go live with the Children of the Forest or something off screen.

Yeah I think everyone else is obviously going to move on to Kings Landing and Bran should just stay in Winterfell. Hopefully that’s the end of his awkwardness on screen

Was kind of surprised at how few main characters actually died.

Was also hoping to see some Whitewalkers actually fuggin fight as a unit and plow through people. Maybe unleash some skills we’ve never seen but I guess that’s over. Was hoping they could do some sub zero from mortal kombat stuff. Like turn some guys into ice and then shatter them.

Also kind of annoyed that they never once uttered a single word. I would’ve liked to have at least heard their side of the story just once. I think a lot of people were hoping that they had a more complicated purpose or motivation but I guess they were just simple evil douchebags. Very off putting that they never got any development at all for me.

After that episode though, it almost feels like they don’t even need three episodes to wrap it up. Hopefully there are a few curveballs up their sleeves to surprise everyone. Kind of hoping Danny splits off somewhere bc she’s got nothing holding her back. Jorah dead, Dothraki gone, and most of the unsullied dead too. She’s kind of a free agent

Dear God. Make Bran a bird. So he can fly far. Far far away from here. Dear God. Make Bran a bird. So he can fly far. Far far away from here. Dear God. Make Bran a bird. So he can fly far. Far far away from here.

I agree completely on the walkers. I mean, they literally just stood around. They were so much more active in earlier seasons when shown. Plus our heroes had amassed all the Valyrian steel and dragon glass they possibly could....and only one little dagger got meaningful use???? I was expected we'd see guys like Jorah/Jon/Jamie fighting individual battles with some of the WhiteWalkers.

I disagree a bit about there being plenty of episodes left. You have a ton of drama to settle before this crew even heads to Kings Landing. Jon & Dany? Sansa's reaction to finding out who Jon is. Getting other houses that weren't involved here to join the fight now. Are there still wildlings available to chip in? What's going on around the Iron Islands now? I mean they could spend 3 episodes just sorting out the politics alone with no battles. That said, it all does feel a little less important now. It's still got a good vs evil vibe, but it's a much more typical one and not this mythological threat. It just feels....a bit flat. They need to knock out socks off in the first 30 minutes of next week to get everyone back to that level of intense engagement IMO.

Anyone else laugh at how Tarley was always attacked by the lamest, slow-to-kill walkers? Looked like they were trying to feel him up. Meanwhile the wights chopping up and running through extras like they're in a race.

Exactly. The unsullied are ripped to shreds, but Samwell is wrestling baby wights or something.

The knight king surviving a dragon fire bath only to be out done by a little poke to his appendix with a valeyrian steel blade was kind of eye roll. The whole reason you can kill them with dragon glass and Valyrian steel is because they’re both forged with dragon fire, correct? So why can’t you just blast his ass with your Chatizard?

I was thinking before that she would use the face of one of the wight leaders to get close to the night king. But I think that the library scene was supposed to be a reminder that she is super sneaky and was just able to get close while the night king was distracted with Bran.

Put me in the disappointed category. I have been on this train since episode 1 aired live. I member the opening scene of the series, those guys getting delittled by the WW. Then it went on to some cutthroat shit with all kinds of unexpected deaths, hardo moves by all the major players, and tons of clever/witty dialogue. After season 1, I bought and read all of the books and got A Dance with Dragons when it was released. After the show caught up and surpassed the books it remained good but as they drifted further apart Martin's influence kind of disappeared and with it went the things that I really enjoyed. I think it is still a great show, I'm just bummed that it was always a 10/10 for me and I can't make myself lower the bar.

I'm still eagerly awaiting the next book installment although I'm scared it's not going to come to fruition by Martin himself. We need to start a GoFundme geared towards kidnapping and stranding him on a remote island, with a lifetime supply of nutrisystems, a personal physician, and pen and paper.

I have seen this complain a lot but I didn’t have a problem on my end?
Mine comes more from just being salty at the whole episode. I like plot and story and this was all about them cinematography accolades coming post series. The score was meh the “natural lighting” was just over done. Too much camera switching scene switching etc. Too many main characters to try and see the battle through each of their viewpoints for one episode of that length.

The Lady of Mormont and the giant was the best scene of the night.

I don't have any problem with the person who killed the Night King being Arya, she's become the most cutthroat, actively aggressive Stark. She generally doesn't hesitate where other do. She doesn't ask 100 questions about why or how, she just does.

I guess they wanted the shock to stay in place instead of showing her sneak into the area, hide out and wait for the Night King to expose himself. I get it. I don't necessarily love it because it left a big hole to me, but I get why they did it. Would have been better IMO had Jon been getting closer and had Dany maybe been in the area....we get the suspense of "who's gonna go at the king" and then Arya shocks us all anyway. This way it just felt...weird?

My main complaint is it felt like an adult started writing a fantasy series and a couple of kids playing with action figures are finishing it.

I think the best criticism I've seen today is that none of the show writers really loved the fantasy elements, especially not the stuff from beyond the wall. They saw it less as a primary focus of the series and more as a plot mechanism to make other things happen. They weren't really into going any deeper than they absolutely had to. Their focus has always been on the deep development between all of the human characters. That's where they are most successful as well.

If that's accurate, which I feel that it is, then you were NEVER getting a good ending for the Night King angle. It was always going to be mediocre because this wasn't something they really invested time and effort into. My hope is that their focus on the human characters means we'll get a great last 3 episodes. I'm just kinda bummed about it all at the moment

I think it was intentionally out of focus and dark because to do a full 60 minute ish battle of zombie cgi has to be expensive. So they probably cut some serious corners by making it low grade effects and tried to hide it with dark lighting

As long as they stop telling me it was to make it more realistic. I am with the guy who said it is a story of zombies, dragons and magic. Reality exited at the start of the series.
