Might as well get a thread to track this as it’s been taking up a lot of my time at work. I’m still seeing Austin in the late first in some and not even drafted in others. I’ll just post this one as reference cause it’s easy to look at:

http://www.nbadraft.net/2018mock_draft

Shows the sweet young man child as the 10th PF/C off the board.

Looking at the 19 mock from the same site it’s got Gafford going #6. I’d like to think Austin is a better prospect and Gafford might go this year. Bol Bol is #2 and that child got sent home from the same team USA that Austin dominated.

Anyway, my current projection is Austin returning. Just makes too much sense.

Let’s not even infer Wiley is a better prospect than Gafford. That’s a ridiculous claim. Wiley really impressed over the summer with the 18U team with Cal, but that will continue to fade as the season progresses. Combine will be huge for him.

Why who’s Dan Gafford? Of course I agree for this year but saying if he stays and plays in Boogville he could get drafted in Dan Gafford range in 19

I’m not real high on Gafford but Wiley is a completely unproven commodity in terms of NBA potential. He’s more of a true big and those guys have smaller roles in today’s game. He’s got a lot to prove in his game that we simply haven’t seen in any collegiate performances to date.

He probably needs to dominate the combine and abuse guys who are projected as consensus Top 15 picks.

What are you talking about? Sick burn on something I didn’t do.

Not sure what's confusing. I don't see what's so great about Gafford. His production is basically on par with what Wiley did last year. He's a plus athlete but I think Austin could prove to have more game and be a comparable NBA prospect with a full year of college experience.

You said I called him Dan Gafford, I didn’t. Gafford is an elite athlete with length. That is what the NBA looks for these days with Porzingis and Giannis being examples. Yes, it is absurd to think Wiley will go top 5-10 alike Gafford is being projected. He can’t switch on defense, no J or range, and struggles with bad hands.

Yeesh, you're really having a hard time. Oh well such is the internet. Let me try to simplify. There's a lot less elite bigs projected in 19. Austin's stock has been hurt by not playing this year. He has a chance to go a lot higher in the 19 class. lol at comparing Gafford to those 2 guys.

God, you’re obtuse. Keep moving the goalposts chief.

My track record speaks for itself. I've really tried to be nice but you just prove time and again to be a hopeless idiot. Oh well as I said such is the internet.

He's more Stromile Swift than Porzingis or Giannis. He's not near as athletic and fast with the ball in his hands as Giannis and he can't shoot anywhere close to The Unicorn. Yeah, he's gonna be a top 15 pick and Wiley is unlikely to ever go that high. I can see that. I'm just not sure it's going to work out all that well for whoever takes Gafford. His "impact versus replacement" is minimal at best right now for Arkansas. Give them "standard 4" and they get most of what he does IMO. I can see him being Willy Cauley-Stein and that's about it. That's not bad, but it's not what I want in my lottery pick either.

Sure, you can have your internet fame. Good luck.

I just don't think he's that good. He's a better athlete than Austin but I think Austin could prove to be a better post player. Now you may say well the NBA DGAF about post play anymore and that's true. Regardless, my overarching point is that the next draft could be a lot more friendly for bigs. Nick Richards is projected 16th. I wouldn't expect Austin to go 6th or even in the top 10 but I could see middle of the first a possibility.

I honestly still don't know what Wiley is. I thought he was limited in terms of NBA potential, but a really good looking college freshman center last year. It sounded like he was vastly improved this summer. I need to see what that means. Is he faster? Does he move his feet better? Can he hit some shots now from 15-18 feet? Did his post moves improve? Lots of our guys made big jumps from year 1 to year 2 so maybe he's more than what we saw last season....or maybe it's basically the same and he dominated the USA camp stuff because it just fit him nicely.

I don't see him getting a great draft grade after missing a year. You can do that if you are the #1 overall player out of HS who NBA scouts were already super high on. Not so much if you are a more traditional big man.

Yeah he'd have to dominate the combine and don't see it without seeing competition all year. He walked in cold mid year and his #s were actually a little better than what Gafford is doing. Doesn't make him a better NBA prospect but I'd expect him to be a lot better now. Would have a lot to prove next year but with this squad around him I'd expect him to show out. Let him play a little Mac role and dial up some 3s. We'd be running everyone out the gym anyway can try to showcase him a bit.

@ThrustMaxwell He implied and said he thinks Austin is a better prospect. That's moving the goal posts as it doesn't matter what year they go for the draft. Wiley staying another year proves the point even further.

Staph has really upped his game a bit lately. I wonder if he’ll start creeping onto to some draft boards. Probably needs to have a huge game against some nba prospects like in the UK game. He still can’t go to his right and there’s still plenty else for him to work on, but I think he’s shown that he’s an nba athlete this season. Kid got way more explosive (to me) this year

He's going to declare. It will all come down to the eval. What worries me is it had always been talked about him leaving early to go to the draft. Then, he considered transferring last year after the season. Just wonder if he will decide to move on even if he should probably return because that's been the plan. I also wonder how much the run we make this year and the potential for next year might sway him. If Austin and Bryce come back and we're a sweet 16 or better team, I wonder if that could sway him to come back.

If he has a decent draft evaluation I am for him leaving. We need to get a player drafted badly.

I haven’t read much rumbling of Bryce being a nba prospect this year. Would be wild if he left, but I bet he’d find a place somewhere. Elite shooters than can play man D have a place in the nba

He wanted to transfer last year? Why?

Bryce could be the all time 3 point leader if he stays next year. It would be a tough choice if he got a good evaluation. But that’s a long way away imo.

I agree. I’d be shocked if he gets drafted, but he may opt to go play in Europe to earn his way to the NBA. He’s stepped it up lately, but has so much to work on like his right hand, 3 point shooting, and scoring off the dribble. I think he can get there, though.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this, but Chuma is the best pro prospect we have. I expect his role to me much bigger next year. Kid has it all, just needs to be more aggressive.

Staph does seem like the kinda kid that could stand to play and prove himself overseas. He's just nowhere near the draft radar right now though. He's been great the last few though if he keeps it up maybe he can sneak into the 2nd rd.

I think we will get him to stay once he sees his draft grade. He’s having fun for the first time at auburn in the past month. I hope they want to grow that and go for a final four next year. Can’t believe I got to type that.

He’s been unhappy until the last month?

He threatened to transfer after last year. Mustapha is a “me” guy. If he’s not getting shots, he’s not a happy camper. Why this team fully clicks when he’s hitting shots. He’s going to get his one way or another. Why he forces so many bad shots.
