OT: NBA Draft thread

I think we will get him to stay once he sees his draft grade. He’s having fun for the first time at auburn in the past month. I hope they want to grow that and go for a final four next year. Can’t believe I got to type that.
yeah gonna be such a special opportunity next season if everyone comes back. I mean that's a legit preseason #1, National Title contender. I just can't see any of these youngsters walking away from that to go in the 2nd rd or play overseas.

He threatened to transfer after last year. Mustapha is a “me” guy. If he’s not getting shots, he’s not a happy camper. Why this team fully clicks when he’s hitting shots. He’s going to get his one way or another. Why he forces so many bad shots.
Sounds like the reason dunans was a problem last year. Guess his teammates have worked around it. Does he like Bruce?

There are going to be some players upset about minutes and stuff bc we will be 12 deep easily.

He loves Bruce. Bruce is the only reason he’s here. Was able to play to his ego and promise him 15-20 shots a game. That way he can showcase what he has for the NBA. If you notice Bruce rarely gets on Bryce and Mustapha during games as he knows they’re babies. Whine when they don’t get their way. Everyone else on the team are team players. Why the chemistry works so well.

He wanted to transfer last year? Why?

Didn’t like the culture around the team. He’s a gym rat, and he felt like he was outworkint everyone as a freshman. Stapha wants to be an NBA player and has worked like that’s the goal. Not everybody here hadthat same mindset, but I think it’s a better group now.

Yeah but those are gonna be the backend players. Hard to complain much if we are running everyone out the gym. Perfect world we could RS Malik and Stretch and have an 11 man rotation.

That’d suck so hard for Malick Dunbar. He comes in and becomes, in my opinion, a pretty damn good contributor on what could be AU’s best ever team. Then he’d be asked to sit out next season just for me can’t make my ACT and take money boy. I’d be pretty salty about it if it was me and that happened

Yeah true. Would just be such a logjam with him, Staph and Danjel. He could sit then be a major contributor in 19 or grad tran at that point.

Look at the stats though. You could easily argue that Malick is the better player. Leads in every percentage except free throws. It's just Danjel was playing 28 minutes per and Dunbar only plays 13.

Yeah I’m not sure Danjel is even better than him. My guess is he is but wouldn’t be by much. One of those 3 isn’t gonna be in the rotation so just thinking what would be best for Boog U. I’d expect Danjel to be gone after next year one way or another and maybe it’s worth sitting a year to work on his game and get major mins in 19.

It'll all work itself out gang. I'm just excited to young Samir take the floor next season as well.

#TeamDanjel

I have no doubt that we would be better if we could trade Danjel for Dunbar straight up. I'm basing this from years of guessing and then believing fully whatever my guess is.

Austin was filmed doing some pregame warmups/workout last night before the game. Guessing he was doing it for all the scouts there to see UK players

I think Doughty is gonna be more of a drive and dish guy. From everything I’ve seen, he’s got WAY better handle than Stapha. Staph is way more of a bulldozer. I think Doughty has the ball skills to get all over the floor. No idea what his shot is like though

Me either but he did have some good numbers I believe at Virginia and obviously that team was not full of scrubs.

He’s a good player but I don’t think he can math up with Mustaphas numbers offensively. Don’t think he’s a great shooter from what I have heard.
Staph isn’t a great shooter, either. Too streaky. Feel like we’ll get one more year out of him for some reason. Maybe just wishful thinking.

Was gonna turn some focus to this topic but the draft combine isn't for another couple months. Anyway, Austin continues to trend down in the mocks. I count 8 bigs that are clearly ahead of him in the pecking order and another half dozen that very likely are. They invite 65ish prospects to the combine. I suspect he'll get one but that's not even a given.

I really really really want Austin to stay. Like really really.

I haven't thought this much all year, but we really could've used him to break that trend of poor shooting last night. His ability to be a big body and a rim protector and his ability to get us easier looks in the paint would've been invaluable to have when Mac went down. I don't really think he fits our style of play completely. He's not really an end-to-end transition type of big, but he could've served a big role for us.

I would love to see him come back, and I hope, if he decides to, that he works tirelessly on adding an outside shot. If he can pick up a 15-18 footer and be consistent with that, he'd really improve us as a team next year and his draft stock as well.

I don’t think we have a style of play if we don’t hit 3s. Our half court offense looked bad all year and was the worst part of our team. We played above our heads defensively and shot the lights out for most of the season but when our defense started sliding it was obvious. We scored so much on transition and that was usually started by defense so you take that away and we don’t shoot 3s well...what exactly do we have? Nothing really.
Austin might not fit that style but he’s an audible we can call when it’s not working. I think he would do amazing things for us and hope he does come back.
