OT: NBA Draft thread

Pretty accurate write-up on him too. I do think he will look better in workouts and the combine than he did the last time we saw him on a college court. I imagine he's in better shape and the year of growth and maturity has helped him. So, his showing and the improvements he's made since last March are big for him.
Yeah I'd expect him to move up but mostly because a lot of these guys won't declare for the draft. I wonder how much he can really improve his stock otherwise though. He's got good length but I think he's only a legit 6'9. Not a superior athlete. I don't know how much of a chance he's gonna get to display post dominance running 5 v 5 at the combine. Unless his J has come a long way he's looking like mid 2nd at best.

I think there are going to be a lot of big taken in the top 10 and then teams that want a big that are deeper in the draft are going to start looking at who they want to take a chance on. I could see him moving up to something like 28-30 if he had a good combine.

What's the high end of where he can go if he comes back? Can he be a top 10 guy? Is that even in him? He's obviously not a guy like Ayton. He's not going to be the rim protector that Mo Bamba is. Guys like Jaren Jackson shoot the ball really well all the way out to the 3 point line. Guys like Bagley and Wendell Carter are still very raw but their athleticism seems to be on a different level than his. I just wonder where he fits in and what he's going to be elite at that gets him to move up.

This a really deep class all around and for bigs in particular. I think 20-25 range is his ceiling but a legit possibility if he comes back and plays well. His J has potential to midrange I think and he'd just dominate everyone inside. I see guys like Nick Richards and that oaf from Kansas in that mid 20 range on 2019 mocks.

Yeah this draft is super deep with bigs and guys that can move their feet better than what we've seen from Austin so far. That's where I'd have concerns as a NBA GM. Tristan Thompson looks like a big ooaf but he can at least marginally stay in front of a guard for a few seconds. Anyone want to bet if Wiley can keep a NBA backcourt player in front of him right now.

None of us have seen Austin enough to give a reasonable uneducated evaluation.

bingo... think of how much Jared and Mac improved from last year to this year...

Austin was a high school senior playing against SEC guys... we haven’t seen his improvement to even a normal freshman level, much less know how much he will have improved by the start of next season... he’s 18 months behind anyone we’ve seen to be able to accurately judge him

my guess is his footwork and agility have improved tremendously... Chuma and Davion had no clue how to defend a high screen in their AAU clips, and now chew them up and spit them out... Austin doesn’t have to be a great defender, he just has to understand how to get wide and stay low

I don’t think he’s a first round pick because NBA teams haven’t seen enough of him to judge, and regardless of level of competition - hours of legit game tape on Euro bigs will mean more than Austin working out... he can come back next year and give everyone 30+ game tapes of a guy who is galaxies better than he’s been able to show so far

even with all that, he could easily show enough in the pre-draft workouts for someone to fall in love and take him in the 30’s, I just hope that’s not enough to sway him

agree I suspect he's improved immensely. I just doubt that his talents can be showcased in workouts. I guess the NBA has ways to find out though. Gonna be tough to just abuse NBA hopefuls in the paint after a year off like he did a bunch of euro teens last summer. There's a bunch of bigs that are either freak athletes or can shoot it that I think Austin is gonna have a hard time passing in the draft. Ideally he shows out and still decides to Boog next year.

Interesting. Looks pretty jacked up once it gets to the late teens. Writer probably been compromised by the REC.
I'm guessing there's probably a consensus on 1-12/15, and then it varies wildly from there on out, based on who yore asking.

I has seent and heard. Even almost talked to Rodney. Austin was dominating fools on Team USA, including first rounders. And Wiley was eating dicks on the scout team this year, at practices which hosted NBA scouts. Austin definitely has limitations on the range of his offensive game and NBA execs will doubt his ability to adapt to today’s fast paced three point shooting NBA, but he is a beast down low and has improved dramatically from his freshman season. If he played 20 years ago, he’d already be worth 10 mil. I hope he comes back, but I don’t think it is a stretch that he is a late first round guy, and if so, assuming I were him, I’d run as fast as I could towards life changing money before putting up with the self righteous bull crap that the sanctimonious Forde, Thayer, Vitale and pissant SEC fans will throw at him next year. And now is where I duck. I like and respect Vickie Orr and Austin and wish them the best of luck and don’t feel like they owe Auburn a damn thing. Austin (and Purifoy for that matter) did what 90% of other players would not have done by sticking around and fielding a legit scout team. All that being said, I think Austin could really help us next year and would give us a chance at 30 wins. And no I should not learn to write in paragraphs, as this was one continuous stream of consciousness thought.

Excellent post but I want him to boog next year so I'll continue to undersell his draft prospects and feign objectiveness.

best we bombard this young man with tweets letting him know how dumb of a decision that would be
Good idea. I'd change your twitter account to look like an Ark fan. Then say something like "Even as a Hog fan I encourage you to do what's best for your family and get those millions. College will always be there down the road."

Don’t care for this

He really hurt us in the game at Arky, but he was a non-factor it seemed in about 75% of their games He'd have one game flashing all that NBA skill and then 3 of just nothing. That kinda normal for some of these raw, NBA skilled freshmen though.

I'd guess a NBA team would love to get him around 15 this year before they have to get him in the top 5 next season. I get where it makes sense for him to come back in that way but if you blow out a knee or have some weird Embiid like foot problems you are going to lose a lot of money. Not sure I'd take that gamble when we're talking about a couple years guaranteed around $5 million and 2 years of options that might be another $8 million. Yes you can double those numbers by waiting a year, but there is a real risk involved. At least if you blow out every ligament in both knees early you are walking with a few million guaranteed....and that's not counting any of the endorsement $ guys can make even on small things that most of us don't even see. Even borderline starters now can get $25k per day for a photo shoot or appearance for some brand that is barely known to most of us. I'd take the guarantee. If I'm going to bet on myself it's going to be the bet where I get a few million in lockdown and then bet that I can turn myself into a NBA All Star and work my way to those $20 million+ per year deals...not bet that I can move up 10 spots and double my initial salary and guarantee.

Yeah and the kid doesn't have the game to go top 5 range. I guess he's never been in that one and done mindset. Makes no sense financially to come back but I guess he'll be ok either way. Ark not gonna be good next year either way.

Isn’t he supposedly the worst of the three brothers and the youngest, LaMelo, supposed to be the best of the 3?
Yeah. He’s definitely the worst. I think this is just a way to give their reality show another story line.

No real idea about Lamelo. Have a really hard time seeing him go #2 overall in the draft. He looks like a prepubescent child right now

Both Li and La will be UDFAs and will likely knock around the G League for a handful of years. I honestly haven't been very impressed with Lonzo either. He has upside in a very general sense but I haven't noticed anything he really excels at. The Jason Kidd comparisons are insane apart from neither having a jumper.

He’s gonna do well in his workouts and be good enough to be first rounder. He gone.

The issue he has is he is more an old school big guy, and not the new athletic version that can do more than just post up.

It will be interesting to see

I think this guy is most similar to Austin that’s still projected late first area with some regularity. Although he’s more mid 2nd in the SI/ ESPN mocks that seem to be the most thorough. I’d say Austin is better but then again this kid has a year of college production and no past injury issues.

Feel pretty good about Austin coming back but I’ll fret over it like a lunatic until it’s official.

June 11
NBA Draft Early Entry Entrant Withdrawal Deadline (5 p.m. ET)

Cliffs: 2019 class is trash. Lotta guys gonna come back to be part of that draft class.

Our beloved EJ and some highly rated bigs " had very disappointing showings, leading some scouts to question their inclusion in the game"

Denim's take: Come back Austin.

I hate that EJ is so bummed about not being able to Boog with us next year that his game is slipping... hopefully he still finds a soft landing spot at Kentucky or Duke and can get over this heartbreaking loss sooner rather than later

I’m gonna mail an extra carton of shit to that deranged lunatic sexual predator cvnt of an assistant corch
