So what’s everybody expecting from Tiger this weekend/year. Obviously it depends on health, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun. Of course I want it to be so I’m biased.

Life long Tiger hater here. Would love to see him regain some form and compete all year and in a couple majors. I just assume he'll have some sort of physical ailment come up by March or April. If he could make it through the year and get to the 2nd or 3rd leg of the FedEx playoffs I'd consider that pretty successful.

3 top 10s
1 win
0 majors

I'm still not convinced his body can hold up under major conditions for 4 days.

That would be pretty decent.

I forget sometimes but after the Elin Nordgren thing he still managed to climb back to #1 in the world and won several tournaments.

ESPN did a great article on him a few years back. Really captured him I though.

This is shocking to me.. (I also can’t stand Tiger) What is your reasoning behind pulling against him?

ESPN did a great article on him a few years back. Really captured him I though.

He was player of the year in 2013 and was in contention late in 2-3 majors. He won 5 times that year, all earlier in the season, including 2 WGC events. I believe that's the year he bounced it off the flagstick at Augusta and took the drop that was later assessed a penalty and screwed up his chances to win that year.

I feel like Augusta is gonna be like the movie The Natural. He’s got one more epic major in him. And he’s gonna be rollin up to 18 with blood just gushing out of him and then he’ll collapse

Man I hope so. I'd love to see him chasing someone down on the front 9 at Augusta and sealing it with an eagle on 15 or birdie on 17. He said after the Pro-Am today his body feels as good as it has in years. I'll be watching this weekend.

I expect a solid day tomorrow, then spinning his tires Friday playing the North course... last year was the only time he’s played the North course since it was remodeled - and the new greens are still hard as a rock, so I’d expect a lot of scrambling and trying to save par after hitting approaches out of the rough...

he makes the cut somewhere in the 40-50 range, then slowly moves up playing the South course twice over the weekend - because he could play that course blindfolded... he settles in with a finish in the low teens after a very inspiring Sunday round

as a fellow lifelong Tiger hater - well, not hater, but consistently annoyed at the coverage he received - even I am excited for this comeback and pulling for him

I think he wins twice this year, 0 majors, but shows enough to convince people he has another Masters win left in the tank

Always been a Phil fan as a fellow lefty and sprayer of the driver.

I was shocked when I saw you were a Tiger hater. Fell slap ass out of my chair when you said you were a Fluffy Figjam fan. He looks like Gus out there on the course. WTH man??

He was a handsome gent back in his Hugo Boss days and has lost a few since the tits sponsored by Ford days. What can I say I been a fan of Phil and golf since before Tiger. Would be like a Boog fan that didn’t mind bama.

I don’t really subscribe to the figam stuff even though he can be a dork at times.

I’m messing around. He’s probably a cool guy. I’d take his bride and bank account, that goes without saying. Arguably the most talented golfer I’ve watched play. Just didn’t work as hard and have the same will to win as Tiger had when he was younger IMO. He seems to want it a little more the older he gets.

Yeah Tiger was a game changer obviously in terms of a pro golfer putting in work.

Phil just didn’t have the mental game to go with the talent. If he could have gotten that firs time major sooner who knows how many he’d have. Some classicly tough 2nds too like @ Shinnecock and Stenson at the British. Throw in a couple more US Opens. Nobody ever dare challenge Tiger like that but he gets a lot of credit there.

good read for any of you who want to nerd out on Tiger’s Taylor Made changes and equipment testing in general

I understood about 25% of it, but it’s still interesting
Damn that’s gotta be more than Tiger has ever talked about anything. I’ve been nerding out on club specs the last few years and my game has gone to trash. Of course would be easier with a Trackman and tour van at my disposal.

Dude was pounding it at the Hero and swing looked really solid so maybe he can hold up finally.

I am the worst. I love Tiger. I loved him back in the day when he was winning big. I loved him when he was a jackass on the course. I thought his wife completely overreacted to him banging thousands of other chicks. I pray to 6lb baby Jesus that he makes one more run at it.
Sadly this is me.

it’s tough for people to change once they get to be his age - but he definitely seems like a softer, gentler Tiger... I’m sure he’s still a stone cold killer on the course, but that’s different than a raging prick 24/7/365

maybe I’m a sucker, but I’m buying it, and it’s a big reason I think this comeback is different and he’s ready to compete again... and why I’m pulling for him

I’ve been watching for the last couple of hours. Hitting the driver well but not scoring. That won’t last. If he keeps hitting it straight off the tee, me and @Slippin Jimmy are going to have a hell of a year.

The North Course doesn’t have ShotLink, so these rankings are only for the half of the field that played the South today, so 78 guys total

SG:OTT - 14th
SG:Approach - 50th
SG:ATG - 18th
SG: Putting - 59th
SG:T2G - 29th

These are full field stats
Driving Distance - 9th
GIR - T49th
Driving Accuracy - T41st

So, very good off the tee but rusty with the irons... he was decent scrambling around the green from the rough, but only 1/5 from the sand... tough to judge his putting because he really didn’t give himself many makeable birdie putts - he had a couple of tap ins, but not many 10-20 footers except for a few par savers that weren’t exactly great looks

It looked like something clicked with his irons on 14-15... his swing freed up and was noticeably better... all things considered, I’d give him a solid B, but the scoring today was WAY better than expected... the South course is one of the 2-3 hardest courses they play all year, and E will normally gain strokes against the field, but hopefully he picks up a couple on the North tomorrow

heard this on a podcast or read it earlier this week but it’s something I’ll be watching closely this weekend... dude said “Riviera has a way of exposing your games biggest weakness, regardless of what it happens to be”... Tiger showed plenty of potential weaknesses at Torrey, but also plenty to build on

I’m not so much interested in what he does well this week, but what he does poorly... how many fairways does he hit? what’s his proximity from the fairway? can he hit his irons high enough to hold greens from the rough?

he’ll still scramble well enough to score well, but he had to work hard to score at Torrey... will he still have to work that hard this week or will it seem to come a little easier?

His game right now reminds me of my game. Hitting a lot of great shots, but struggling to put together complete holes and consistency. Really hope he can stay healthy long enough to get back in a groove.
I have always been a fan of Tigers golf game, but it looks like he may never challenge the elite golfers again,my wife can't stand him.

He’s the worst driver out there right now. Everything else looks decent from what I’ve seen. Looks reasonably healthy at least. You can’t scrape it around at Riviera and make a cut like he did at Torrey.
