Boogs v Arkansas

Expecting another tight one. If we take care of the ball, we’ll def have a good chance. The Gafford kid worries me. They really have played well lately when he’s had big games.

It’s obvious but it’s true when we say we can’t turn the ball over. Been the common theme in our losses. Too many empty possessions. We are good enough offensively to beat anyone as long as we are able to just do anything on our end except turn it over.
I would like to see a better effort and intensity level to start out the game Tuesday. Seems the last 2 losses it took us a while to get going fast and aggressive.

I think we’re worn out. Our style of play plus being short handed has us tired. I think it’s the main reason that’s leading to these slow starts. Home crowds give us a boost but road crowds don’t.

All that said, I think our Boogs are ready to clinch Tuesday.

Boogs by 8.

Make sure I get this one up with the quick turnaround Tuesday night. SEC title on the line again. Ark playing pretty good ball lately. Another team we are better than obviously but gonna be a toughy.
No matter how bad Arky is in a given season, they are always tough to beat at home. This team is mediocre, but they'll be a tough out at Bud Walton.

Was talking to some friends about them yesterday. Specifically about Mike Anderson. HC for 16 years. 11-20 win seasons. 13-18 or more win seasons. 0-sub .500 seasons. Pretty impressive work at 3 schools.

Was worried someone else would start this thread.

I think beginning of games favor the lesser team cause they kind of throw some wrinkles at us. Then we usually impose our will. Games have a way of coming down to who can execute down the stretch and that’s usually us if we’re playing decent. So much so we usually put it away by the 4 min mark even after being down double digits.

Bryce being dinged up hasn’t helped and Jared has played a couple bad games in our last 2 Ls. Not too worried about those guys getting right down the stretch.

Prime Grade A EA right here peeps.

Let’s discuss if we should roll with the Zone almost exclusively from now on. I’m a fan
I love the zone. It’s almost impossible to play man the way the game is called in college. Guys don’t generally shoot it good enough to bust it. That’s assuming we don’t blow assignments and leave guys totally wide open. When’s the last time you ever hear ‘they’re really struggling against the man to man D’. It’s always the zone.

The zone is good against teams mediocre from 3, but teams that can get hot from outside it's a gamble. We probably will have to continue to run a lot of zone because of fouls and minutes, but we were far better defensively when we had the depth to win 80-90% man.

Yeah you better be a good ball moving team with some good shooter to beat the zone. Or have a behemoth like Austin you can lob it to and he can either get fouled or dish it out for open looks.

Not many college point guards can get to the basket against a decent zone

Yeah this is purely just for how we have to finish the year based on depth and efficiency. May have to take our chances that teams won’t get too hot from three in a different gym

It’s hard to Box playing a zone. UF’s big guy that never scores was in double digits last night because of some garbage buckets. Big boy from Arkie would be extra hard to keep off the glass. Of course, I think my man crush Davion needs more minutes if we stay with the zone. He is Tenacious D out there.

definitely tired last night... it’s my biggest concern right now... I’m not worried about getting bullied down low - or about foul trouble - or about anything else we were afraid of as potential pitfalls at some point this year

I’m just worried we run out of gas soon

on the zone defense, what is hurting us is when we have Jared / Davion / Bryce out there at the same time, or Desean / Chuma at the same time...

anytime we have a combo that hasn’t played together much until after the Mac injury we’re having breakdowns... either bad communication passing off cutters, or someone takes 2 steps the wrong direction by mistake and gives up an easy look

it’s not a personnel or strategic breakdown, it’s just a part of making such a huge change 25 games into the season

we’ve got 2 games and hopefully at least 2 more in The SEC tourney to get it right

I’m not worried about it, it just sucks that it’s the reality of the situation... the only fix is more game time together

I'm looking forward to the clinch Tuesdee night. Even after the loss last night, I still cannot believe we are this far into the season and only have 5 fuggin losses! And temple being the only one by double digits.

If you'd told me before the start of the season that AW and DP would miss the entire season along with other players missing time here and there We'd be sitting here on February 25 with just 5 L's, I'd taken it in a nanosecond!

All Hail The Bruce!

Imagine if The Bruce also coarched our beloveded foosball program as well as our hardwood warriors... Dats da shit dreams are made of y'all!

I like it, but I think we should mix it up more. Maybe even show the set and then pick up man out of it. Florida struggled against it for a while, but then they found 2-3 sets that worked against it that allowed them to get hot. It helps us eliminate penetration and post offense, but if a team has good zone offensive sets to run, they will beat us up in it. Not sure Slaw is a team we want to zone too much. Macon and Barford can get hot and roast us. But on the other side, I'm not sure we want to play a bunch of man against Gafford either.

I think a mix of both to keep them guessing would work best. And I think showing some 2-2-1 3/4 court zone pressure could help us too.

Yeah I like all that. Dial up some different defensive looks like corch Boom. So many reasons to get in the zone at this point but you want to mix it up. I rather let Gafford get his than let them go off from 3 but need to put a premium on fatigue and fouls with our guys as well.

I must have missed the games where Gafford has been the kind of guy that can put up 20 on you. In fact I don't think he's done it in SEC play. His best scoring games have come with a good helping of FT's too. So I'd have the same mentality that I have about Hall and 90% of the bigs in the SEC....don't front them, make them make baskets over the top of you and don't foul. If he takes 15 shots from the post, over a defender and makes 9 of them so be it. Just don't foul him, don't give up dunks and layups.

More worried about how he hurts us on the other end. He's had some big games in terms of blocks and impacting shots. Gonna need Chuma at the 5 some to drag him out to the line.

We iz perty eeeezy to figyour out. If BROWN and HARPA play well, we gunna win 90 perzzent of da time. If thay don't, all of a sudden TRUBBBA comes into play!!
Wun key to dis game---BROWN gunnahave to handle da ball UNDA PRESHURE!! Dat ain't ekkzakktly hiz strong point. Againzt dis deefentz, we may see sum moe of MITCHELL and HARPA in thare two getha!!
Shood be a good wun. I thank Arkansaw iz playin good az HAYUL rite now.
Don't thank ANDERSON don't wunna stick it in our azz eeeetha afta all dat fiasco when he dun wanted to be our coach.

I sure hope he doesn’t stick it in our ass, Doc..

The biggest positive I see about this game compared to the last few games we've played is Arkansas isn't as good a defensive team as those who have given us problems recently. They don't ball pressure like SCar, Bama, Florida, or even Kentucky. They're aggressive defensively but aren't as good collectively as any of those teams. Their full court press is pretty good, but I think that would play into our hands with how well Harper handles that. This is also a game where we could get into the bonus much quicker than the Florida game. I believe Slaw leads the in fouls committed.

Yeah I don't think they make much effort to work it to him inside. We just need to put up 90 we'll be all set.

I could give a fvck less if anyone here disagrees, but moderate your godawful shtick over here... in fact, you can drop it completely and none of us will tell anyone

if you have something worth saying, just fvcking say it... but typing a billion words of jibberish to help hide the fact you’re saying the most basic, generic stuff is beyond tiresome

It’s just horrific. Rivals robust ignore functionality is such a blessing.
