Boogs v Coogs ( Round 1 THE TOURNEY)

I’ve not watched Clem or NMSU at all. Anybody know who would be the best matchup for us? I’ve seen so much Clem debacle (live in ‘12, ‘16 and ‘17) with the football team that I might have a come apart if we were to lose to them in basketball, too, but I’m trying to be more logical than emotional when deciding who to send some good vibes to in this next game.

I’ve been saying since January when we were first projected in the same bracket as Clemson that I couldn’t take losing to them in another sport...

their best big guy is out for the year - I think torn ACL? Anyway, they’ve struggled without him

I think NMSU is a bigger squad - they outrebound their opponents like crazy, which could give us problems

we should beat either team... and beating Clemson would cement BRUCE as the breaker of all Boog curses forever... but I’d rather face NMSU

I think we’re winning Sunday regardless though

As probably the biggest AU fan on this board, I can say that was a decent win but I’m severely disappointed. Bruce should’ve done better. Definitely a firable offense. if he doesn’t get lucky. Fvck jay Jacobs

We are only bad in away gyms in game 1. Now that we have one under our belt, I expect to shoot 45% from three on Sunday

true... and I pray for the chance to eat these words, but after yesterday I’m not scared of Kansas

now after tonight, a good high school squad wouldn’t be scared of us... but I really really want a week of discussion on the Michigan State, Duke, Kansas, and AUBURN? matchup next week... it would be enough to carry me through an entire fall of Gus’ dumbass

Watching some of the Clemson game, I think we need to play some of that 1-3-1 against them. They’re a decent shooting team, but they’re big and athletic enough inside to cause us more problems there IMO. Plus, that 1-3-1 with Harper in the middle protects him a bit from foul trouble. I’d almost say go with the zone first half and switch to man in the second half if we need to make a change. And outside of Duke, I’m not sure they would’ve seen much zone lately.

I checked their stats.

They hit 6 three pointers
They only managed 3 offensive boards against NMSU’s 8.
They had a really good night from the field, so hopefully they won’t be hot two straight games.

I think if we crash the boards and meet their level of physicality, we’ll have a good shot so long as we don’t go 0-13 from three in a half.

Yeah, I just think zone is our best option for foul preservation and what Clemson showed last night that they’re good at doing (for the first half at least). They penetrated and hit a lot of open jumpers inside the arc, and they have 2-3 bigger guys who are athletic and can score in the paint with their back to the basket. Statistically, they’re as good a 3-point shooting team as us. So, that could be a problem and may force us to get out of the zone, but that’s a chance I’d have to take. And if we can get to the second half without foul trouble, I think we can turn up the defensive intensity with man in the second half.
