Time to go ahead and kick off the first official game thread of the season. Line as of right now is the Boogs at a 2.5 favorite over the Huskies with an O/U set at 48.5 points.

Gotta think that Zahn will absolutely do some Zahn doodoo headed things like he always does in the opening games. But this defense is just too damn good to let us lose and I also think that year two of Chip and Jarrett together will help minimize Zahn's ability to muck things up into the shitter.

Methinks it's a low scoring close game going into halftime and then the Boogs come out of the second half win by double digits.

28 - 10 Boogs and the Heisman campaign for Jarrett ramps up into high gear.

Inexperienced secondary in the dome against Petersen and a heisman caliber QB. I got the Boogs losing this one 30-24.
I don't buy this that much. Dinson, Dean, and Javaris Davis are all upper classmen beasts. And Daniel Thomas may be a liability but he's not inexperienced. Just one dude out there is gonna be new.

And the more I watch Kam Martin highlights, the more I think Au's gonna be just totally fine at RB. People may think this is an asinine, rice level comparison but Kam Martin is very very similar to Bryce Love at Stanford. They have almost identical running styles and are very close to the same size. Kerryon obviously had some highlight moments with the way he could make people miss, but I'm excited about baby Kam just because of how direct he is running the ball. No dancing around. Finds a crease and goes for it.

I thought we got a taste of life without Carlton in the Sugar Bowl. I don’t know maybe we just didn’t have it for that one but UCF puts up 34 that’s not great. Washington has a much better O than UCF did. I’d be shocked if we hold them to 24 or less. Probably have a ST fugup or TO that gives them a TD at some point as well.

I don't think UCF and Washington's offense are similar at all. But I could be wrong. Either way, I don't put much stock into bowl games that really don't matter where AU clearly wasn't interested in being there. Plus that UCF QB was way more mobile and a playmaker than browning is. But we'll see. I could just be homering out too hard, but Noah Iggy is really the only "unkown" on defense going into the year and K Steele doesn't seem too concerned about it.

Boogs win by 14. I will be there rocking
Boogs by 10, but not that close. MALIK scores.

Stidham is the key to the battle, Gus to the war. If both have Georgia Part II and UCF games, Peterson will put the smack-down on us.

Fast start, win by 10. Slow start and dumbass calls, L and 3 straight, 0-1 to start the season.

I know nothing about their front 7, but I know their secondary is elite... can our OL and RB’s control the game well enough if they contain our quick passing game?

4 year starter at QB, 4 year? starter at RB, rated M for mature corching mismatch... they’ll put together a couple of good drives even if they can’t block us consistently... is Trey Adams playing?

if we win it will be because we completely outtalented them with our front 7, and Stidham & Chip have taken a leap forward in year 2... I’d say it’s a tossup... either the offense has finally started to evolve, or Gus gets pantsed

I’m not particularly invested either way... I’ll turn back into a lunatic fanboi once T-Will is the head corch

I honeslty don’t cout the sugar bowl against them. It was hard for me to get up as a fan and, no matter how many times we see t, those games always favor the underdogs bc they actually want to be there. Losing the UGA and bammer getting in was a gut punch and , yeah, we should have had pride for the game but, honeslty, outside of pride..who really cared about it except for UCF?

With Gus involved, there’s no way of knowing WTH will happen, IMO.

I can honestly see every scenario from Auburn blowing them out to losing in an embarrassing fashion.

With the talent on D and with Stidham in his 2nd year, I think it’ll be a close win but with beeboop, who knows.

Not shockingly, I think the key to the game is our OL vs their DL and vice versa. If we control both LOS, which on paper we should, I think we will be leave Atlanta happy. Our DL should be something they haven’t seen since Bama two years ago in the playoffs.

My biggest concern is us not being able to establish the run like we’d like and having to become a pass-first team against that elite secondary, but that’s never really been an issue under Gus. The RB situation and the questions on the OL just make me hesitant to say we will dominate the run game.

I expect Chip to get pass happy in a game where our advantage is in the run game and Peterson to manufacture enough points to win.

AU wins 13-10 and the defense sets up all the points we score. The OL gets crushed. Stidham has no time. RB's no space and the play calls are typically terrible Early Season Gus stuff. We run the double statue of liberty play action 4 times on 3rd and long despite looking like we're playing against the 85 Bears front 7.

This is the scenario that pisses me off the most so I'm going with this.

Browning may not finish the game. He will get pounded. Gus starts his March to Coach of the year. AU 31-13

@gregorians we all need to embrace the PTSD that Gus has put us through and realize that he's just been putting out crap performances as an effort to manage expectations towards his teams.

While i'd love to think Gus and crew are going to come out of the gate guns a blaze'n my heart just won't allow me to believe this. He will use a fairly conservative game plan with the whole idea of not "revealing" anything that SEC opponents can use to prepare and by the time he realizes we need more it will be too late. I also see this more as Gus really believes he doesn't need to go too far into his playbook to win and hopes to lean on the talent of this squad to pull this one off. The flaw in this is that the Huskies make up for the talent deficiency by crisply executing plays (kinda like Gus' earlier squads).

I think the defense will look good but don't see them getting a lot of help from the offense which will basically mean one or two busted plays could seal the loss.

TD/DR: Hoping for the best, expecting the worst, beepboopbeep.

Boogs by two TDs.

We roll the rest of the season with a scare in Starkvegas, but pull it out by 3

Our top back is injured in garbage time vs. Ole Miss

We get our innards ripped out of our asses by UGA and UA

End the season getting throttled in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl by Penn State

That would be a nice setup for our true love, boog hoops. Bruce slaying Duke in Hawaii will quickly get our fans’ heads in the right place.

Winning a BCS Bowl is kind of a big deal in Boogville still. I can’t totally discount it even if it meant more to UCF. Gus is woeful in bowl games. Pretty bad in season openers/ big early season games. Really any games where there’s extended prep time and then you have one of the best in the biz on the other sideline.

“I think we’ll really know what we have by Game 3-4.”

Gus (8/19/18)

Sighhh...

Instead of using the spring and fall camps to actually develop players and find the best players regardless of position, we spend another offseason playing tiddly-winks with Chandler Cox and giving the majority of the meaningful practice/scrimmage reps to upper classmen because, well... Gus is still an amateurish HS coach.

We’re going 8-4 this year, guys.

Some of you might be getting the Sugar bowl appearance and the Peach Bowl mixed up. Boogs has zero chance against OU and shouldn’t have been in that game anyway. Probably shoulda won the Peach bowl but I still don’t give a fugg about it nor do I really hold it against him

I'm not sure the boogs should have won the game, but our defense was very good and their defense was not very good. It was a typical Gus gameplan where the other team had clearly used the time off to prepare for our weaknesses and we rolled out running the same things we always do.

Exactly. AU losses by 20 and I'll be disgusted but my blood pressure will be fine. I can quickly shift any focus I had on AU football into other things until AU Hoops and Bruce Pearl start their glorious run to the best season in AU history.

But I can't take another 8-4, fail in every big game, no chance of doing anything special, frustrating Gus offense season. Where there is JUST enough hope that I keep getting pulled back in to believing we might click at some point. I'd rather just be terrible so I can move on.

Ehh, it doesn't sound like we've played favorites with upperclassmen this spring and fall. From all reports, we're going to play 2 freshmen RBs a significant amount, all 4 freshmen WRs are going to get some PT, two freshmen safeties are the back-ups to our starters (and one could be starting later in the season if Thomas is a liability), and several are going to contribute on special teams. If anything, I think we've put much more emphasis at having young guys ready to contribute. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but I don't think we've shafted young player development in favor of some upperclassmen.

Who are you referring to that you think should have gotten less (other than Cox I assume)?

I don’t think he’s bad or anything, but I keep going back to how the coaches seemed to not trust him at all when Kerryon was down. Maybe that’s just a Gus thing or maybe he was banged up too.

But I used to think Kerryon sucked too, and he was awesome last year

I mean, I don't think he's gonna be Jamaal Charles or Bryce Love but I'm coming around to thinking that the comparisons aren't too ridiculous. I really like the way he gets straight up field in a hurry. Don't think there's gonna be too many negative plays with him and I'm positive that he'll bust some big ones each game.

Really encouraged too that he put on 20 pounds. That's really hard to do and hopefully it really helps him out
