This is our best win of the year from a KenPom rankings standpoint. (Washington is #34) Would have been very easy for our guys to have a let down tonight after the emotional win over bama Saturday. With Harper and Chuma both being dinged up early, we could have easily scuffled tonight. First half we looked like the drastically better team everywhere, but UF managed to hang around. Second half was a dominant performance to get the double digit lead and hold it the rest of the way. UF is the best defensive team in the SEC and ranked 9th in the country so they are not an easy team to blow out.
Very balanced attack on offense. Samir had an incredible first half with 10 points and filling up the stat line. Would have loved for him to knock down that last 3. Finished with 12 points, 3 steals, 5 boards and 2 assists.
Bryce with a workman-like 14 point performance to lead us in scoring. Only hit 2 3s, but had some nice drives to get add some 2 point buckets.
Chuma showed even more flashes of his full potential tonight. Attached the basket several times which is what we need him to do on a much more regular basis. His assist in the first half where he kicked to Samir was one of the most NBA level plays I have seen from any of our guys over the last few years. Just an incredible display of athleticism. The coast to coast break late was also fantastic. 11 points, 8 boards, 3 assists is a nice line.
Bench had a great night as well. Getting Austin back was huge. He looked much better than I expected in limited minutes. Should give Bruce the confidence to play him 15-20 minutes this weekend which we will likely need at LSU. Spencer with 7 boards and played with his normal fire. Danjel added 5 points with a beautiful oop assist.
3 wins in a row to answer our 3 game slide has saved a season that was on the brink 2 weeks ago. This Saturday at LSU is going to be a huge test. Beating them there would be our biggest win of the year. They have looked really shaky the last couple of weeks, needing a miracle to beat the shitty Mizzou team we destroyed and then losing at home to Arky. Will be interesting to see how they play tomorrow at Starkville. Win or lose this Saturday, we will have 3 more games after that which we "should" win on paper before we head to Rupp. We're #14 in KenPom now after the win tonight. A 6-1 or 7-0 streak here would put us into the top 10 of KenPom, into the top 3 of the SEC and set us up very well for a run at a high seed down the stretch.
