Gonna go ahead and get this one fired up even though we're all still obviously high and buzzing from another heart racing come from behind Boog Dub. What can we say other than JAYLIN. Dishin dimes to his teammates and even took some time for some healthy self love by dishing one to himself. The child is a revelation and my heart bubbles at the idea of seeing him and Sir Isaac on the court the same time. This one is luckily back in the Clam where the HYGs are undefeated this year. Not expecting a blowout but it'd be very welcome to my heart. Just give me a comfortable win please. Maybe Sir Isaac is back this one. I'm guessing he is even if it's just for an even 20 mins. Got the Boogs 76-66.

Based on Bruce’s pregame comments, it sounds like issac will be back. With their guards, we are going to need his D.

These are the last scrubs to win here in the clam if memory serves correctly... Time for some payback. Expect young Jaylin to oop it to himself off the side of the backboard this time.
That rock fight we lost against them last year at home was infuriating. They held the ball till 5 secs of less on nearly every possession and drilled contested 3s all day.

Tyree has been red hot, dropped 40 on MSU and gone for 29 and 28 in his last 2. But I still think you gotta make him hit tough, contested shots and live with it and not obsess over helping from others. He's got a lot of double digit FT games and that's something we have to avoid

We need JVon and Samir to defend with the same intensity that they did last night in the 2nd half. They ate them boys up on the perimeter. The danger is that we get a tight whistle game and get in early foul trouble but I think we have to just make that gamble. We can't be playing at 70% effort on D out of the gates.

Of all the teams that have given the boogs fits over the storied history of our program Ole Miss stands out. We should absolutely blast them at home with or without Isaac but we won’t.

On one hand this a game Isaac should be able to sit and we still win. Giving him more time to heal and guarantee JAYLIN his rightful mins. Then again be nice to let Isaac shake off whatever rust before Battle of the Bluebloods 2020 vol II at Rupp.

It wouldn’t shock me if we don’t play Okoro again

Nah, you gotta play him when he's healthy. You can't take a month off and then just jump back into game action for the tourneys. We need him to get back out there and keep pushing his offensive game in the direction it was going.

He practiced last week and the only thing keeping him out was a little tightness. He's young, I'm guessing he's healed up fully for OM or by the weekend at the latest. Hammys aren't a super common basketball injury either. Would be more troubled if it was a calf strain as that muscle gets more stress in hoops.

I think you have to make sure you make things tough on Schuler, Sy, Hinson, and Buffen. Not sure we can hold down Tyree again. So, we have to make life tough on his teammates. Also, with Sy and Buffen able to play the 5 for them, it puts Wiley in a bind defensively. Sy can shoot and Buffen can beat Wiley off the bounce all day. This might be a game where Mac has to play well for us. He did at OM and ended up being one of the main reasons we got that win.

Not many people have quad strength like Okoro tho. That extra mass on the front means more stress on the back. It’s something to look out for in the future with him.

I worry about any dudes that look freakishly muscular, but I think this was just a bit of a freak accident. This wasn't a case of a full sprint or trying to take off and it pulling. He got a pull because he got completely off balance and was in a very awkward position trying to do something completely out of the normal run of play.

I worry about recurring stuff with ankles and calfs/achilles for hoopsters. Some guys have weak ankles (Steph) that feel like they always make any roll into a big injury. Calf strains linger and often lead to larger issues further down...hello Durant. I don't remember the last name of a basketball player who kept re-injuring his hammy. That's very much a football or soccer injury where you get more chances to hit your top gear over a prolonged space. The need to get in and out of start/stop doesn't get your hammy/quad as much as it does those beautiful calves and stresses the achilles.

Anyone remember if it's his right or left? Right handed players jump off their left leg more and that's where I'm guessing his last hurdle would be. That exploding off the floor part.

He’s just so explosive. That is why I worry. Hammys reoccur quite regularly as people get older. Obviously hes like 19 so it shouldn’t be an issue... but once it happens, I can start to snowball. I’m sure Auburn’s PT will have him stretching everyday twice a day, on top of dry needling, and massaging.

And hopefully a happy ending.

Just watched the UT highlights and missed the game.

crazy how, even without Okoro, that this team can just flip a switch and climb out of a 17 pt hole in 4 minutes. Wish these guys would learn how to flip that switch from the start. Bruce needs to inform ower HYGs that Ole Miss is up by 20 to start the game. 73-69

I don’t want to jinx anything but I have a sneaking suspicion this is the one the BOOGS finally play a complete 40 minute game since probably the UK game.

Boogs by 10+

That would be fantastic. If Bruce can find a way to get our guys to play like they are down 15 from the start, we would wreck folks.

If Isaac returns and plays 20+ minutes, I think you could be right. Ole Miss is a bad matchup for us though with all their quick guards. They have also been the one team to really have our number at home in recent years.

I'm not sure why they are a terrible matchup for us though. Yeah Tyree is really good but he torments other teams more than he does us and Shuler isn't cat quick. They seem to really have some excellent approaches to playing us that also pay off greatly even if they were high risk. The one at AU last year was almost hilarious. If you try that strategy and we're hitting shots and your last second 3's aren't going in you are down 20 before you blink and now you have to abandon the entire damn plan. But it worked. We kept missing and they kept hitting tough shots. Drove me crazy and then every AU fan on the webs started thinking someone had found a blueprint to beating us....uggg.

Tyree has had one good game against us in the last 3....he went for 20 last year at AU. The other two games were 5 pts and 8pts on 17% shooting. Meanwhile Shuler went for 26 on us earlier this year. Last year at The Clam he scored 17 but hit 4 from 3 and I feel like they were all very contested, end of the shot clock daggers. dropped a solid 14 on us in the other game last year. He's a 10 or 11ppg game guy and he just always crushes us. Maybe we'd be better letting Tyree get his and shutting down the rest of them with a focus on Shuler.

Good point on Shuler. He's been ridiculous against us. We are due for a team to not have a guy have a career shooting game in our gym. Hopefully tomorrow will be it.

Boogs -8.5 and 139

Feel like we're gonna get 15 minutes of Okoro tonight. If the UT game had been a SEC championship deciding game I think he would have played. They'll give him 15 tonight, maybe 20 Saturday and back to full go for the last 2 SEC games so that he's in full flow for the postseason.

Maybe off by one game...maybe they start the clock at UK, but he's back sooner rather than later.

I know we keep saying it, but this team is due for a BOOG special. We haven't had a great shooting performance combined with a frenetic defensive game in weeks. I want to see a game where we hit 12-14 3s and cause 18-20 turnovers. A shooting effort like LSU with the 2nd half defensive performance of the Tennessee game.

It’s mostly coincidence our struggles against OM but maybe there’s some cosmic energy that goes against us. Bruce doesn’t seem to like going against the muppet something about his style/ game planning gives Bruce issues.

Then again we played like trash last year against them and they were out of their minds just to squeak out a 60-55 win. We’ve honestly not played well all fuggin year I still expect this club to find another level come tourney time. Maybe the last 15 mins against UT was a glimpse.

If there is a criticism of Kermit it's that he over-coaches at times. It's a gamble that paid off against us a lot unfortunately. His plans are often a bit extreme or he changes things in game at times when others would not in order to see if he can gain an edge even though things look alright. Last years game at home for us was a perfect example of a very extreme plan that often would have blown up in his face if we just hit shots and they don't make absurdly difficult ones.

They probably get blown out anyway in their weekend game vs the Bobs, but his over-coaching killed them early. They were in a close game, 2 pt Bob lead or something. They were playing man and mostly doing a good job as that offense had not got going. Out of nowhere he went 2-3 zone that looked to be sitting really deep intentionally and they gave up 8 quick points in 3 possessions and were suddenly down 10 and also 3 bama players got to see open jumpers go down and after that they couldn't miss.

No idea what he'll do tonight. I would not be shocked to see that same zone even though it just got him killed because he doesn't think we can shoot...or he may try to play the stall strategy from last year, or he could try to go fast pace and push the ball because he sees that we've struggled with that at times. We should expect anything from him. He seems to coach regular season games a lot like other coaches plan for tourney games when they are the big underdog. Feels like we're due for one of these plans to blow up in his face though and I'll love every second of that happening to his try hard ass.

I hope he pushes the pace. IMO that's where we're best, getting in that frenzied, hectic type of game. I don't think we're great in any one particular style, but I think we play more free in an up-and-down game. I think that showed in the second half against UT. So my guess is he will try to slow down the game and play a halfcourt style that we just aren't that effective in unless we're getting foul calls.

Mostly agree with you there. Betting he goes slow down/muck it up.

I have no idea what their depth is and how much they trust the guys on their bench but it wouldn't be a terrible strategy against AU to press everything and push pace and wear our 2 guards out. I think that's been part of the issue with us playing the Bobs. We can't play that pace for 40 minutes without killing the guys we rely on the most.

Gent I’ve mentioned this previously and I’m sure everyone is aware but I’m dumbfounded by how shitty our stats are. Dead last in the SEC in 3 pt % and 2nd worst in 3pt % D stands out the most but it’s awful across the board:

TTqhd45.jpg

Only things we’ve done well is rebound, get to the FT line and TOs isn’t bad. Other than the shooting 9th in steals irks me quite a bit.

it takes us back to the root of the first teensiest, tiniest, bit of EA you/I/we tried to spoonfeed the Boog board... FTA is far, far, far, infinitely more important than FTM or FT% - because it encapsulates so much more about what is happening in the game than just makes or %

you lead your conference in rebounding and FTA and you’re gonna win a lot of games... they won’t be pretty, and they won’t be the classically beautiful HYG performances BRUCE has spoiled us with, but you’ll keep stacking dubs

Another reason we miss Okoro so much. He does those things very well and was growing in being more aggressive offensively, and thus drawing more fouls. He's going to rebound, get offensive boards and get to the FT line a good bit when he's healthy and playing well. He's a big part of what we need to do to win games this way.

For some reason, decided to pull "The Men of March-BRUCE Edition" back out and watch again today. Maybe because this OM squad beat a Final Four team two of two last year, or maybe not. Regardless, for those that aren't motivated...
