OT: AU Hut Hut Squad

At the risk of feigning interest in the huthut squad I find it remarkable the hulking specimen that can run the read, convert short yardage/ red zone with his legs and launch it a mile downfield is still battling with the lanky teen pocket passer for QB1.

Surprising for sure. I just have to think the decision has been made and Gus is playing it close to the sweater vest.

Nix isn't a pocket passer, though. He is quite mobile me can run the zone read.

But I agree, that he isn't the physical speciman that baby Cam is

Do you think he’s a better runner and athlete than Stidham? And capable of running the zone read for 8 weeks against SEC defenses?

It's really tough to judge the mobility of a kid from high school film. I do think he is a good athlete, it's just tough to know how good he will be in true live situations against SEC defenses. Stidham had decent top end speed, but he wasn't quick enough to run the read option with a lot of success. White probably had similar top end speed to Stidham, but he was a lot quicker and was more able to keep defenses honest. I will be interested to see where Nix falls on the spectrum.

FWIW apparently Nix had one of the fastest first 10 yard splits when they recorded 40 times. Good acceleration will be very helpful when we need him to just grab 5 yards and slide when plays break down

Heard this before about other QBs that were not Athletic HYG.

Yes, and don't think it's really close.

Yes, but not the same way Cam or Nick did. But his passing abilities would make him dangerous to offset (in theory)

I thought Nix looked a lot quicker than Stidham in the spring game but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s way too small and not elusive enough to really be reliable as a runner

He isn't elusive like Nick was, but I think he is more than elusive enough to be an above average runner. He is a really good athlete.

And he ain't that small. Actually pretty good size

Yeah even if he was athletic enough which I doubt no way big/physical enough to take the hits or pick up the tough yds

Exactly. It's the reason White was never healthy when we played bama. And why he got knocked out of the bowl game against Oklahoma. Obviously injuries can happen to anyone, but more likely at his size.

I have about one post worth of give a **** in me about football. Here's what I think.

Our Oline isn't all sec so we lose 2-4 games, 10 win ceiling 6 win floor. End of the day no one ****ing cares, we keep gus this season, we keep gus next season, and we fire him the year after. Everyone pray saban gets forced into retirement and that UGA doesnt win a ship in the next 5 years cause we.are.****ed.

Can't wait for basketball season.

I think it’s pretty close. They are basically the same coming out of High School IMO. Rivals is so weird they called Stidham a Duel threat QB and Nix a Pocket passer. I know you are of the opinion that he’s not but I can’t see that he’s not just yet.

Do we know if Gus can really run the RO? The further we get from 2013, the more I wonder. I mean I know he probably knows how it should be executed but does he know how to teach a kid to look for the cues they need to look for? It’s hard to forget Rhett telling Gus, no the kid made the right read but it just wasn’t there and Gus looking at Rhett like Rhett was crazy. Like what do you mean it wasn’t there? If I called it then it was there. It just wasn’t executed correctly.

Remember when Rice tried to convince people that they were racist because they didn't think Stidham was as athletic as Nick Marshall? Great rice moment

Rice argues out of both sides of his mouth more than any human alive. Yesterday morning before our schedule became public, I would’ve given you a million dollars if you could make Rice say TA&M was good. Then after he read a thread making fun of how it played out he had to start defending and was acting like that game is as tough for Bama as LSU is for us.

Yes 6’2” 210 is too small to be reliable. Pfft. I guess Baker Mayfield wasn’t reliable when the pocket broke down.

Meanwhile, when they take Gatewood’s ability to run away, he can’t get a first down.

You know that any passes are going to be around the los 2-5 yards tops with the remaining passes being long punts if they get intercepted.

I Didn’t realize he was up to 210. That’s good news if accurate. The Mayfield comment made me chuckle. Hope Gatewood doesn’t break his back.

Apparently boogs across the net are all bent out of shape over the new logo. I’m sure it was a waste of time and money but I’d say the new one is a little better if I had to pick:

I like the old one on our helmets but I won't lose sleep over it.

Not the end of the world to me but don’t give me any BS about tradition when the kids want to wear alternate gear for a game against an Oregon or a North Carolina. Isn’t it ultimately only about new dollars?

Agreed, Do I love the stormtrooper away uniforms? Of course but I am not the one putting my body on the line for Gus. Those kids deserve to wear wtfever they want.

I think the only reason so many fans are against it is because they don’t want to hear UA fans making comments.

My dad is a graphics designer. he says this shit always happens with big companies. They'll say they want a radical change to their logo. He'll make a bunch of things and spend a ton of time on it. And then they'll get scared, pussy out, and then just tweak the original just a little bit just bc it's the only thing everyone can agree on. I'd love to see all the concepts that AU rejected before pussying out on this

Yeah I'm finally in this camp, even though I've always been a traditionalist. If this is what the young studs want, have at it, especially if they have the NADS of this warrior.

Here’s the deal... Bo is a passing QB that can run very well.

Joey is a running quarterback who cannot throw even 70% as well as Bo.

This race is cut and dry to me. As a QB guru of course.

that’s great except it completely ignores our mongoloid head coach factor... unfortunately “very well” just isnt talented enough to save Gus from Gus... it would be for most people, but, well...

I’m fine either way... play Gatewood and let the young child run all over people, enjoy watching him lead us to a spectacular 8-5 record or watch Gus flounder to a completely bereft of excitement 8-5 record with Bo

it’s not going to change anything in either the short or long term, it’s only a matter of how much I’m entertained until BRUCEketball starts

I’m not truly sold on Joey. He wasn’t good enough to be a two year starter at HS U. But I think he’s a better fit for Gus. Nix is Stidham Part 2 IMO. Plenty of talent, just not a great fit for a Gus AU offense.
