OT: AU Hut Hut Squad

I’m not truly sold on Joey. He wasn’t good enough to be a two year starter at HS U. But I think he’s a better fit for Gus. Nix is Stidham Part 2 IMO. Plenty of talent, just not a great fit for a Gus AU offense.

I think Nix is a much better fit than Stidham was.

You have to remember about Gatewood was that his HC purposely played two QBs because he thought they both could get DI scholarships. He was right (but it probably cost him some wins)

No coach in the world doesn’t play the best guy. If you think they tried to help two guys instead of win games you’re funny.

I have seen and been around a ton of HS coaches. There are actually a few that would definitely play a 2 qb system if the alternative was one kid got a scholly and the other was destined for a bad life if left behind. Those that are like that, credit their scholarships even at small schools with literally saving their lives. Some of the best peeps in the world. I am not saying the majority are like that but these are the guys that got into coaching and believe in education as a way of giving back just a little of what they received. I know a guy who did it for almost his whole career at one school before he put a political sign in his yard and subsequently ended his career. He was performing his constitutional right and paid the price for backing the losing board member candidate. True Story.

You are a good man & that is a great testimony/story.
The End

That is a great “thought”. But coaches try to win games. Period. They play their best kids.

Last head coach I worked for didn’t play the best players. Quite frankly he had spent his entire career at places that were almost all white and kids with great families. When he ended up at a place that had a larger black population and you had kids who had grown up without a father or just in not great families he couldn’t handle them. I’ve also seen guys play players who fit their system better instead of changing their system to fit the best players. I’ve also seen guys play their sons or a board member’s son over a better player. It happens quite a bit in high school honestly. Not a majority of the time or anywhere close to that, but it for sure happens.

I guess I’m wrong in thinking Coaches in 7A Florida HS football try to win and play their best players. Seems odd to me that they wouldn’t. I would hurt some feelings.

Never insult Nix like that again. Stidham was a gigantic pussy. Bo Nix is a gotdam champion

It's literally what the coach did and he accomplished what he set out as both signed with D1 schools.

And you could tell that it's what he was doing as he had a rotation and stuck with it, even if one QB was playing better than the other

Well they made it to the state championship game, it’s easy to get away with it if you’re still winning. I have no idea if they were equal or one was better or what. I know when they were on tv I thought Gatewood was far better. I know they threw for roughly the same amount of yards but Gatewood also had 1000 yards rushing. Who knows what the coach saw in practice every day. The kid signed with Boise State, so he obviously wasn’t a complete slob or anything. I was just speaking to the fact that coaches for sure don’t always play the best player. And they also don’t only play one guy just because one is better than the other.

Did you hear the Coach say Gatewood was better? Or that he cared more about getting two kids playing time than winning football games? Or is that just your opinion and it’s possible the Coach saw no discernible difference and played both?

Renewed my SI script just in time to get the College hut hut preview. We are ranked #17 & are behind six squads on our schedule & Moo U comes in at 20. Of the six, the Boogs only catch two of those at home (#1 & #3), and would be a dog to five if we played them today & that’s not just my opinion.
On the flip side SI has NEVER been able to figure out the War Eagles, so there’s that.

It was either in an article or in an interview where the coach said that.

He said he would split time at QB because he felt both were good enough to get a D1 scholly.

Okay. You said he “literally” didn’t play the best guy because he wanted to get two guys a scholly. But he never actually said Gatewood was better. That makes sense. The other scenario doesn’t.

There seems to be confusion. My "literally" comment was about playing both QBs for to help get them scholarships.

I have about one post worth of give a **** in me about football. Here's what I think.

Our Oline isn't all sec so we lose 2-4 games, 10 win ceiling 6 win floor. End of the day no one ****ing cares, we keep gus this season, we keep gus next season, and we fire him the year after. Everyone pray saban gets forced into retirement and that UGA doesnt win a ship in the next 5 years cause we.are.****ed.

Can't wait for basketball season.
Our OL isn't going to be very good, imo. A lot of Sun Belt talent starting and a complete shit show behind them.

Sounds like Nix may be pulling away. Zahn playing to his audience I suppose

I take it with a grain of salt. Sounds more like Zhan is trying to bait Oregon into not stacking the box. Zhan has a history of practicing all kinds of shit during camp and only utilizing a small piece of it during the season. I remember all the damn RPO’s people said we practiced before last season. I expect both QBs to play Oregon. Nix may indeed get the start but knowing Zhan he could exit the next play and not be seen until the 2 min drill before the half. (Which will end in a FG attempt in the red zone.)

I gagged at the thought of Malzahn subbing quarterbacks in any situation. I hate the wildcat btw
