I used to be an optimist about Auburn football, but I can no longer disagree with people who pick us to lose about 5 games. 8-5 seems to be Gus' standard recordSeems about right.
Cause.....Gus
How much more pressure does the Final Four and College World Series put on Gus? The Boogs obviously have the right coaches in basketball and baseball. Gus needs to produce similar results or get out
Yep he has that generational change type of money 1$ to Gus.Dude is going to make 6.8 million this year and get 26.625 million more if he goes 0-12. I’d say he has less than zero pressure.

What’s even worse is I actually think we field a better squad this year if we get solid QB play. We stuck with this dumbo battling for 2nd tier SEC football for more years than my soul can take.
I’m more nervous about QB play than most. I can imagine us being physical enough to beat Oregon, who will be considered a good team. I just can’t imagine us competing, week in and week out, against the Top 5 or 6 teams in the league without losing 4-5 again. Hope I’m wrong.
That’s a legit concern. Im more worried about our OL. Just hard to think we can improve enough across the front to stand up to the bama, lsu and uga fronts. Meanwhile uga continues to add studs on the oline even after the hauls they have had over the past 2 yrs. I so wish we would sign a true stud oline class one of these days.
Elite OL do not want to play OL for a scheme that will not prepare them for the next level. Hell no one worth a shit wants to coach a HS Scheme. Old man JB is happy to just take a check. If Gus returns to a young athletic stud QB then we can thrive without good to elite OL but been waiting for that since NM
Wish him the best but sounds like there were some 'issues'.
Even if they have issues, still have to put some blame in coaches for not working those issues out. You don't see a lot of key players or potential key players leaving bama or Georgia. One of many differencesThey are fine Auburn men as long as they stay. We hear all about their “issues” when they leave.

Per Mark Murphy, he didn't have the option of returning this year due to off the field trouble.
I always assume he came in with a strike against him since he got a DUI right before he signed with us
Not that it matters but I wonder why it’s not “per Gus”?
I don’t doubt anything he did. It just gives more credence to what I said. We thought it was all good with him and he’d be a big contributor. Now if he leaves, we’ll hear what a turd he was.
Which sometimes is the case.
but if you want to compete in the SEC, you better be able to either recruit so much talent the headcases have no choice but to fall in line or leave - or be able to maximize the few potential difference makers you do get
and, welp, Gus does neither... there’s no doubt about that
Yeah count me as not buying scheme being the problem. Head coach and OL coach are the problem. I’d be willing to bet Clemson recruits OL better than us with basic overall same scheme.
#5 OL in the country? O U TInteresting take from ole Phil Steele. Can’t remember him ever being bullish on Auburn. Crazy he seems to think so highly of our OL and Special Teams.

I'm betting #5 OL in the west but gotta love the pre-season hype train.Yeah I will sell that take. LT and LG are good. C/RG/RT all got abused last year. Obviously they could improve, but I'm very skeptical that they have all improved to the point that we have the #5 OL in the country. I guess we will see.
So Vandergriff pulled the trigger for the Sooners last night or this morning. That’s not surprising but I’m still a little disappointed. Some of the family will be disappointed for a while too I’m sure but they will be wearing Crimson and Cream before long.
Yea I was surprised at first that both Max Johnson and Vandergriff slipped out of uga’s backdoor, but my source tells me they really like what they have on campus now, and that Carsen Beck is the #1 QB on their board for either class. I was disappointed his mother did not put up a good fight. She must not be a diehard boog.
A couple of months back I heard more chatter about Clemson, UGA and even LSU(which floored me but he really like Orgeron). I think that’s about the time he met Riley though and they went to near the top. His Mom would’ve loved for him to go to AU I’m sure. And her Dad is so damn die hard boog you wouldn’t believe. Really good family though and they’ll get behind Boomer Sooner for sure. I hope he lights it up out there.
Sounds like a good kid from what I’ve been told. Hope he does well. There is a lot Of top tier QB talent in the south over the next few years. Hopefully boogs are set at QB for the next 3 yrs and it’s not a big deal losing a kid that grew up going to boog games. Although it seems to happen way to often with boog bloodlines. I do wish we would get after some top tier RB talent. I fear we are much weaker at that position after our top 1 maybe 2 backs than most think.
