OT: AU Hut Hut Squad

Seems short sited though, better facilities will attract better head coaching candidates.
It's not abnormal though, lots of programs have waited till they had success or had the coach they all agreed was the right guy before pulling the trigger. It's backwards ass thinking for sure and more programs would be better if they didn't operate this way. We actually did this the right way with basketball, building a new facility before having the success and it likely played a big role both in helping us land Bruce and helping him succeed once he got here.

But when boosters/administrators don't like the current HC they seem to shut them off and not think about the long term damage they may be doing.

At the end of the day, the right candidate won’t need the best facilities to attract top talent to their vision. That’s true in any industry. The right candidate will build around the right PEOPLE, and those people will end up funding the better facilities as a result. This is Business 101-type shit we’re talking here.

By the same token, the wrong candidate (or the current HC) is gonna fvck it all regardless of how nice the facilities are.

He ain’t completely ruining his OL and his overall program because of lackluster facilities. He’s doing that because he has the wrong people in charge of key, valuable positions, because he’s an abysmal roster manager, and because he’s got a complex against elite young talent and feels obligated to play his favorites/the most Christian-like kids on the roster.

Period. End of story.

I go back and forth... it’s not so much that I don’t want to put the investment into Gus, it’s that I don’t want Gus anywhere near the investment, if that makes sense

which is more appealing to a replacement coach? a new facility? or being able to put their signature on a new facility that they help design, even if it could be 2+ years before it’s completed and they reap the benefits?

if we had enough people around the program who had earned the trust to design a facility with 0 input from Gus, I’d be all for building it... as it is, I think it’s dangerous to start a project of that magnitude until a new coach, with a new vision, who has everyone on the same page, is involved and spearheading the project

but if we’re waiting for that, it’s never going to get done

I hate Gus

And the congregation said "Fugg Gus".

The problem with this mindset in my opinion is Auburn is not going to get a big name to replace Gus. We would have to wait at least 3 or 4 years for a new coach to prove he is the right guy..

What if the guy who replaces Gus is a failure? We gonna wait another 20 or 30 years to build something that should have been built several years ago? We are already embarrassingly behind schools like Alabama in football facilities

Yeah, AU needs to pull it's head out of it's ass and get to building. IF Gus want's a 5 acre chapel he can build that shit on his own dime, but we need a dope indoor water park with a Red Bull and chicken finger tasting room stat!

you’re right... my hatred for Gus is so strong that I’m convinced he can find a way to fvck up a $60 million building... it should be impossible, but he’ll find a way

regardless of who the next coach is - Boom, Bill Clark, you, me, anyone but Rice - I don’t expect them to win titles, but I at least expect them to be competent, above average intelligence, human beings... so even if they bring little else to the table, they at least don’t actively detract from the situation and take things off the table because of their own deranged lunacy

I don’t need 3-4 years to see the next guy prove anything to be ok with making a commitment to him for improved facilities... you can announce the groundbreaking on the new complex at the same press conference you announce Gus’ firing or the new guys hiring

my list of criteria on whether or not we should support the football program (and you can definite support any way you choose) is very simple:

1 - is the head coach Gus Malzahn?

because until the answer is ‘no’ none of the rest of this stuff really matters

I can not root for Auburn to lose or fail. I am definitely skeptical of Gus. Do I think he can beat teams like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU on a regular basis? No! But I am not willing to undercut him or any Auburn coach just to guarantee their failure.

my position on “rooting for Auburn to lose” has been made abundantly clear 100 times over... it’s not a hard concept to grasp... undercutting - or whatever word someone chooses to use - unfortunately isn’t as cut and dry a concept with Gus

my questions have nothing to do with undercutting or rooting for failure - despite how anyone interprets them... the questions I have are if saving resources to allocate in the future will ultimately bring a larger reward than allocating them now - and there’s no way to definitely answer those questions

We should just lay a foundation this year for the building and as soon as we hire someone else they get to design it as his first action on the job.

I'm still excited to see Joey Gatewood guys. Or Bo Nix. Plus the D is gonna continue to be just filthy

I am an odd bird and I admit it. About 3-4 years ago I realized that Auburn will never be allowed to be the team they could be. Mainly because of old money idiots with too much influence. Texas seems to be the same way. I hated Tater Tot at times, I hated Tubs at times but never a once did them failing bring me more joy than winning. Gus has me at that point. When he starts breathing in general within eye or ear shot, my day heads south. If he starts tubershelling and starts blowing the lead, or starts running it up the middle 30 straight times and blows the lead, or he just decides to not adjust after halftime and blows the lead, etc etc, I get as happy as if we were driving towards the goal line with NM or Cam.

I can understand the skepticism of his coaching, but I don't get the personal dislike for Malzahn.

I think Gus is a decent guy on a personal level. Not a phony Christian who is running around with hookers like Hugh Freeze.

I don't think he is willing to cheat his butt off like Saban and Kirby Smart. That might be one of his faults as a coach. You probably need to cheat to be successful especially when competing against other cheaters

Just a whole lot of Gus corching fatigue...too many games where he's snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. For me it's not losing games to a superior squad, it's that there have been too many times where he has the superior squad and finds a way to lose which often seems to be 2 games a season.

Also tired of his not offering enough scholly's early. You have to trust your staff and offer enough kids so that you can meet your needs while quality talent is still available. Nothing wrong with lesser known kids, but you have to have the ability to corch them up and AU hasn't always had the staff to do that.

Just like 4 more years of Trump, I see at least the same for Gus. Hope he makes the most of it, even with all the challenges he faces trying to win at a basketball school.

This is the most JABA bullshit post. He’s a good Christian man and everyone else is cheating. GTFOH with that nonsense.

Except Luck, I would say he has had his share of luck. We've won in spite of him several times.
Any quality win we’ve had has been in spite of him.

His contributions to the program include getting the fug out of Cam and Nick’s way and hiring JB Grimes twice.

The fact this program continues to stack Birmingham and Music City Bowl titles is a testament to all the decent assistants on staff Gus would never get anywhere else.

Just let the man get out of Joey Gatewood’s way please. The young beast looks ready to run in circles, heave bombs, and truck some linebackers and Dbs if necessary too

Yeah I didn't say any of that stuff. Your sorry ass obviously takes this stuff so personally that you have to make Malzahn out to be some villain beyond just a mediocre football coach

I don’t believe someone who has an ego the size Malzahn does, thinks he’s the smartest person in every room he walks in, is arrogant enough to believe he’s good enough to win without placing qualified people in key positions around his program, intentionally steers the program’s direction away from what was working in search of his own career aspirations (recruiting pocket passers to impress NFL GMs) in place of doing his job of winning games for his CURRENT employer, is not emotionally strong or confident enough to deal with personalities of elite talents, who will openly play favorites based on religious views or kiss-assedness, and who jumps to gain maximum financial leverage at his first hint of football success in years (instead of preparing for a championship game) is necessarily a good person.

I don’t know, maybe he really is a great, genuine person.

But years of evidence tells us he’s a dense, arrogant, insecure, short-sighted jackass holding our program hostage largely due to his lack of humility... all hiding under the guise of religion.

Somebody who can, go ask JABA on tbb if he really wants to risk 263,000 to win 5,000 on AU not winning a Natty. Of course I’m sure it’s a winner, but good grief it’s a horrible bet. Get a new FA dude!

Edit: Isn’t he the points specialist/travel cheap guy?

Only time I REALLY got mad at Tubs, was when he threw Jason Campbell under the bus after the 2002 Arky game. I was pretty mad at him, but the LBS in me got over it.

Spurrieresque IMO

So Gus attended today's Board of Trustees meeting to ask for support for new football facility. Would have been hilarious if they said his resignation would really get the project started

Apparently, the BOT told Leath to make the Football facility a priority

I’m glad they realize that it has to be built no matter who is coach. However, if we are building a bomb ass building, that should make Auburn a more attractive job.

I fully agree we need to build the new facility ASAP.

My only contention with the new FOF being built is if its cost causes us to be unable to fire Gus after another shitty season this year.

or if he demands any input into the design

I don’t even want to know his vision for what 16-20 year old kids are drawn to
