++++++Boogs vs. UVA Official Final Four Game Thread++++++

I’ll be there. Can only watch the Semis win or lose. Not sure anybody in our group believes that I’ll leave if we win but unless something changes, I really won’t have any choice. I will be with a big group but I’ll let you know where we go Friday night or maybe lunchish Saturday on here.
I'll be with family and friends, so I guess that will be a group as well. I'll let you know where we plan to go on Saturday.

I’ll be there. Get in Friday evening. Planning right now to leave on Sunday. If we win, I’ll have a decision to make.
Opposite here. I committed to coach a youth soccer tournament this weekend and I can't back out. We finish Sunday at lunch and it looks like I'm leaving here that afternoon either by plane or not. I've got a buddy who lives in Minny who is going to be looking for tickets from the losing fans when the semifinals end. Place to stay is locked up.

What has impressed you with Virgina so far in the tournament? Honest question. I’ve watched all their games and mayb I’m a dumbass, but we are a bad matchup for them. Purdue is a lot less athletic than our bunch and over the last 2 games they’ve given up a lot of uncontested 3’s. Everyone is talking about UVA’s defense, but not Auburn’s which is surprising as hell to me.

New Mexico - 16 turnovers, 49% fg,
28% 3pt.

Kansas - 16 turnovers, 45% fg, 31% 3pt.

UNC - 14 turnovers, 43% fg, 25% 3pt.

Kentucky - 14 turnovers, 44% fg, 23% 3 pt.

In comparison to Virginia:

Gardner Web - 16 turnovers, 44% fg, 39.1 3pt.

Oklahoma - 7 turnovers, 36.5 fg, 36.4 3pt.

Oregon - 11 turnovers, 37% fg, 36% 3 pt.

Purdue - 9 turnovers, 49% fg, 43% 3pt.

Overall averages:

Auburn turnovers - 15
Virginia turnovers - 10.75

Auburn defensive FG % - 45%
Virginia defensive FG % - 41.6%

Auburn defensive 3pt % - 26.7%
Virginia defensive 3pt % - 38.6%

I would like to add Auburn has played the number 12, 4, 1 and 2 seeds. Virginia has played the number 16, 9, 12 and 3 seeds.

Again, I’ve watched every game UVA has played in the tournament and maybe 5 regular season games. To me Auburn is a horrible match for them. JMO.
Great breakdown!

I’m seriously considering either flying out Monday morning to WI and driving to Minny for the game or getting up early Sunday morning and driving 12 hours and doing the balance on Monday.
I know driving seems like it would be a bitch, but I like to drive and I’ve got a fun car to drive and it would be through parts of the country I’ve never seen before so I don’t have a problem with it.
Decisions, decisions.

Edit: I got two jobs I have to proofread back a day early so I will have to work late tonight and work 20 hours Friday to pull it off but that’s par for the course with work/life balance with me.

Wish I was going, I had someone call and offered me a ticket for free but with only 3 weeks of school left and 7 papers to write I cant make the trip. Pull us through.

I wish I could take you with me. I have another friend whose the big diehard I know. Been buying season tickets since Sonny in the ‘80s, and he can’t go. Kills me that those kinds of dedicated fans can’t go.

So what am I missing about this matchup with UVA? Everything I’ve read about the pack line defense suggests that the biggest weakness of it is a team who can play in transition, teams who can penetrate and kick and make the extra pass, and teams with mulptiple 3-point shooting threats that are making shots. That sounds like us. Is the general thought that Auburn won’t be able to force its style of play onto UVA and that’s why they will be able to have success against us? I’m not saying we’re absolutely going to win, it why is it that everyone seems to think we can’t dictate the pace and UVA absolutely will?

Another thing I find interesting is the teams who gave us the biggest problems on offense this year had relentless ball pressure and, almost as importantly, denied the hell out of the wing passes. SCar and OM made it extremely difficult to operate the offense and forced us to rely on Jared 1v1 battles and finishing at the rim. This pack line defense seems to invite the wing pass and they use ball pressure at the point, but it seems we have an opportunity to penetrate from the point or from the wing back to the middle, which could cause their defense plenty of problems.

“So what am I missing about this matchupwith UVA?”

I don’t know. All I know is I’m having to watch their crap on local news now that I’m in DC. Don’t care about them getting on the plane and watching it taxi down the runway.

Did get an unusual amount of War Eagles on the trip from Atl to DC (probably 10 total).

One guy went on and on about being a Bama living in T-town and how they are having watch parties and all screaming really loudly for Auburn. It’s like it even surprised him. Of course we all know the effect our HYGs have on us. It has to affect the populace as a whole. I guess I’m a raging bitch because all I could think was well aren’t y’all dumb asses because I wouldn’t give two shits in hell about Bama if the roles were reversed. However, I just told him thank you for the support. Wasn’t really even sure what to say to all that.

Then my stewardess spent 5 minutes telling me how her father-in-law was a huge Auburn fan and him screaming War Eagle so loudly always embarrassed her brother-in-law (they lived in NC and fil went to UNC but loved AU). And how when he died, the bil gave the eulogy and at the end screamed War Eagle as loud as he could and then broke down and everybody at the funeral were all sobbing but screaming War Eagle. She teared up and said it gave her chill bumps thinking about it.

I know really only peripherally related to the subject at hand, but it was a weird AF day flying.

I cannot believe we're in the fuggin final four.

I feel the same way. Almost afraid to say it out loud. Almost feel like it’s as simple as if we hit the shots they give us we will win. Slightly worried about us giving them too many 3’s and Hunter going off, but our defense has been so good. Scary to even think about.

Since Bruce has taken over, I’ve invested in Washington state gear for travel. Nobody ever says shit except for “ hey, that flag flies every game day, how do y’all do that?”

I always answer “roll tide”. They answer back “roll tide” and it’s over for the rest of the time.

Yore welcome.

I don’t know why but this made me laugh really hard.

I am not as afraid of their defense as I feel like I should be. I also don't really see much of this "pack line" thing when I watch their games. They extend further than the diagrams or explanations I read up on tend to make it seem. I still wonder how blitzing ball screens is gonna work out...if we are killing them off that what do they do? They don't switch any ball screens that I've seen. I'm not sure if he doesn't believe in it or if I just have been lucky enough to not see them do it any. But if we're killing you in the blitz how do you react?

I'm actually much more worried about their offense. They are efficient. They are great with off ball movement and they have 2 guys that will start hitting stupid shots when they get going. Guy is one of those kids that if he sees 2 go down in a row he can shoot coming full speed off a curl and release it where it looks like he's setting a volleyball and it's nothing but net. The motion worries me too. They are really smart and we can't fall asleep for a half second.

SEC assistants keeping it real:

"They don't get the credit they deserve," one SEC assistant coach said. "Bryce Brown and Jared Harper are two first-team all-league guards. They didn't crack the first team because of the whole Auburn negativity s---. I think they're the best one-two punch in our league. And they've been up there for the last two years. You talk about our league and you talk about two guards that are dynamic offensively, Brown and Harper are the top two. I don't know if there's anyone better."

Not shocking, but very little love for our boogs. Not even honorable mention for Bryce, Dr. C, or JARED. Only Final Four squad not represented
Apparently to get listed on the AP AA list you have to be 1st team all conference. We had no one on the 1st team all conference and thus none of our guys were even eligible for the honorable mention which you get with at least 2 votes.

Slow work day, let us talk about how much more handsome someone can be as soon as they leave bama.

I don’t want to break the Greg but the whole roster is grotesque. That Ty Jerome in particular is a hideous creature. Goofy ass chalkies galore. Even their one NBA talent Hunter ain’t easy on the eyes.
