didn't realize this until you said that and confirmed with a Google. I would've thought Gary Payton had the steals record. How bout the chalkie representingthe NBA all-time leader in both assists and steals (by a large margin) at PG (Stockton)

I'm not so sure about that. At all. I think you're placing too much emphasis on athleticism, and not realizing that there were great athletes 25 years ago, too, when he was playing. A great athlete does not necessarily a great basketball player make. Is Steph Curry really any more athletic than Stockton was? Curry seems to do alright against today's athletes.Stockton is an all time great no doubt, but he’d be completely and totally outclassed athletically in today’s game
take a look at the exponential growth curve in global population over the last 50 years. In 1980 there were 4.4 billion people on the planet, today there are 7.2 billion.I'm not so sure about that. You're still mad because I took you to task over that Jordan-Fisher comparison you made. That may have been the dumbest thing I've ever read. You're trying to spout some meaningless, cherry-picked stats. You still don't get it. Human evolution isn't moving that quickly. You act like the 90s were the Stone Age. Grow up. Get some perspective. Rules changes and different coaching philosophies have changed the game. Not human anatomy. You look back at Rick Mahorn and tell me he's lighter and not tough enough.take a look at the exponential growth curve in global population over the last 50 years. Now consider that NBA athletes are the top what...500 basketball players both skill wise and genetically on the planet. Just by virtue of global population to draw from the most mediocre players today should be a lot better than their counterparts 30-40 years ago.
Couple the statistical knowledge here with the fact that advancements in sports science/medicine and in understanding of the basketball in general have grown. What you have is a MUCH more competitive league, on an individual level as well as a team level.
Todays game is much harder than it was 30 years ago. Now you can say you don't "feel" that way or whatever but if you do you're just blatantly ignoring the facts.
Does that mean guys like Jordan wouldn't have taken advantage of that? At least the science/knowledge? Not at all, maybe Jordan would have been better too but players in the 90s were older, lighter (less muscular) played less games, and had higher shooting percentages, they got to shoot more freethrows, and they got way more offensive rebounds...which leads to easier scoring especially for guys like Jordan.
There are a ton of metrics that just really point to the league being 2%-5% "easier" for elite players 25~ years ago....you know, the Jordan era.
Now, think about how much better LeBrons stats are, in a league that is wayyyyyyyyy more competitive. Against teams like Golden State...its laughable that you just stick your heads in the sand and ignore the obvious because you like to reminisce about a bygone era. Put LeBron and Jordan, in their primes on opposing teams with the exact same supporting players and tell me who you think would win...based on stats and objective analysis. LeBron wins 80% of the time, in fact I'm sure there is a simulator that could do just this.
If you say "but muhhhh jordan would win because he had heart, he was clutch, etcetcetc" you might as well be saying "I like jordan more so he would win and I refuse to acknowledge anything outside of my comfortable small minded reality" also you suck.
good day.

lol bruh its so typical of an oulde to ignore the stats and claim something like facebook makes the NBA less competitive. Good lord that's hilarious.Let me tell you clowns how evolution works... Man didn't change in the past 50 years... People don't "change" that fast. Diet and training may have changed, yes. If MJ came up in todays era he would have benefited from all those advancements as well.. But even in his 1992 state, he would still DOMINATE.
Also I would argue those guys of the 70's, 80's, and 90's played and practiced A LOT more than today's moderns athletes... Better fundamentals too.. They didn't have bs distractions like Twitter and Fbook and iphones. They just played non stop and for MJ he was doing baseball and BBall.. And Bo was doing 3 sports. Lebron is a couple inches taller and about 70 pounds more than MJ.. Huge difference, but prime era MJ in today's league would be unstoppable... Even more so than back in the day.

I am watching this game. Bron isn’t playing like the Goat. Seems a lil flustered. Good game though. Smooth is not a word I would use with Bron. Dr. J was smooth. Kobe was Smooth. MJ was Smooth. Bron is more brute force.
So? That means what? All thread, I've said LeBron is great. Show me where I did not. And you shouldn't be so hasty to discount things from before your time. How does that clip change things? Respect your elders, kid. That's something from the past that was better.

the reason you're triggered so hard is because you know what I'm saying is factual and your brain is reacting with aggression rather than acceptance, part of that has to do with neuroplasticity, which does normally reduce with age.So, @Weagle1492, do you tell your mom she's of no worth because she's older? That her accomplishments mean nothing, as they didn't happen today? Especially when she's on you about making your bed, or having girls in your room? Adults! I tell you.
Rustled!!!! Lol! Did your mom know you were up so late?the reason you're triggered so hard is because you know what I'm saying is factual and your brain is reacting with aggression rather than acceptance, part of that has to do with neuroplasticity, which does normally reduce with age.
When faced with alternate paradigms that would be too mentally exhausting or socially expensive to accept many people resort to "fight or flight" mode, and because its a stranger on the internet you've resorted to fight.
TLDR; you're oulde af and mucho predictable.
edit: here's a cool powerpoint about what's going on in/with your brain http://www.une.edu/sites/default/files/Singer Neuroplasticity and Cognitive Aging June 2014.pdf
hopefully you learn something.
Further edit: Older people today are uniquely irrelevant because of the speed at which technology has advanced. It's gone at a much faster pace than they can keep up with. So that for the first time in human history you have this situation where a younger generation not only knows more than their parents but are much much more useful to society. That won't be the same for my kids because they will grow up with it like I did. But you sir, you were outside playing with sticks at the same age (10) that I was inside writing physics into wolfenstien ET so I could jump really high and launch a snowball at someone.
tldr; old folks suck at computers. Young folks don't. We get all the benefits of that as well, like increased knowledge, up to date research, social awareness, etc etc etc.
tldrtldr; you bad me good

Yeah I think it’s safe to say that I’m not as steadfast in my convictions as some here
I’m equally steadfast - it comes with the territory of being right 99.999% of the time... I just know “serious sports discussions” are never worth having... not with friends - not in person - not at a sports bar - and especially not online
if I wanted to spend my time correcting every single mistake someone made in a multi page diatribe just to have them ignore it and continue to be wrong I’d teach middle school
Just normal shit from the GOAT.Ho hum 43/8/14 tonight...
Ho hum 43/8/14 tonight...
Yeah and he only shot 68%Just a bunch of raw power stats.
Yeah and he only shot 68%
If he ever starts consistently making that fadeaway he had on display tonight, he’ll end this GOAT debate before long. Just completely and totally unguardable when that shot’s going in.His efficiency is just silly. He's got Westbrook usage rates but with max efficiency and super smart play. it's not human. There are a ton of stars in the game right now but he's still head and shoulders above them. You can't trade him for any of the other guys and have this Cavs team be where they are right now.
No. There will never be an end to the GOAT debate. The next guy will come along, and cast doubt as to the veracity of that claim. As the next generation will come along, and millennials will cling to their contemporaries in such debates. Sorry @Weagle1492 , you're not age-proofed. No generation is. They will tear down your idols, and laugh at your old ways. So it has been, so shall it be (and no disrespect to you, Jimmy, you're good people). If he ever starts consistently making that fadeaway he had on display tonight, he’ll end this GOAT debate before long. man you're so triggered its legit not worth acknowledging. I really don't give a **** what some old triggered troll thinks. It's pretty clear you have no idea what you're talking about and made up your mind long ago.No. There will never be an end to the GOAT debate. The funny part is, I'm not triggered. Don't know why you think that. I'm just talking and having fun. I think you're a good dude. I do. I generally really like reading your takes. You just haven't lived enough to know what you're talking about with this age stuff. You're not seeing the big picture. But, whatever. Doesn't matter. And I'll agree, LeBron is amazing. Just like Kareem was amazing. And Russell. Too many greats to pick one, for me.man you're so triggered its legit not worth acknowledging.
