Gonna go ahead and fire this one up early.

Don’t really know too much about LSU. I know they have a decent Jared Harper impersonator at pg but I’m sure Bryce can handle him decently. They have a really ugly big guy that’s a lotto pick and a coach that has a bratty punchable face. And yet somehow that find themselves the presumed favorites over our Boogs.

Really need a quality quad 1 road win for our tourney resume and I’m thinking we get it Saturday

will deep dive later in the week, but they’ve got 2 good guards, Reid is a potential problem but seems to float to the perimeter and not always bang inside, and they play at a faster pace than even we do

they don’t shoot it well, Reid is actually their leading 3 pt shooter... they’ve played a relatively weak SEC slate so far... and they will want to run with us, we won’t have to seduce them into speeding up

not ready to expect a “W”, not sure on their home/road shooting splits, or any newcomers who have improved over the course of the last few weeks... but this is a very winnable game

This a biggie. Not a must win per se but it’s time to win one like this. They got a lot of size I don’t love Mac in this matchup. Or Samir feels like a Malik/ Ho game where we’ll need their rugged physicality on the glass and in the paint. 15 good mins from Austin would be a plus.

I take Jared over Waters all day but the kid is streaky and capable of just going off. Leads the league in TOs by a wide margin.

if I remember correctly, Waters just pissed all over himself against Jared and Bryce last year... they roasted him a few times, drew a charge when he tried to come back at them, sped him up into taking some godawful shots... and they eventually just had to bench him to save him from himself... just a complete meltdown

I suspect he’s matured... and he’ll be playing at home... but...

there’s something about Jared that just gets under guys skin - and that’s part of the reason he’s so important... I don’t know if it’s something that goes back to AAU, and Jared being a late bloomer, or guys just thinking they’re way better than he is - or that he’s way better than they realize now... it could just be the flopping on defense... whatever it is, it’s what makes his deep 3’s an even bigger weapon... when he hits them and starts talking shit - opposing guards LOSE THEIR EFFING MINDS... even when he doesn’t hit them, he lulls the other guards into quick shots as well which - as long as they’re not making 24 footers - is a net positive for us

something to watch if the game gets borderline reckless and out of control early... there’s a chance they’re hot and we’re not and they bomb us out early... but I like our chances if this turns into their guards vs our guards in a “that’s a dumb shot” contest

Boogs are the slight favorite in this one according to espn's semi trustworthy algorithm. Still don't trust AU on the road though

Watched LSU-Miss St game last night. I felt like I was watching a bigger, uglier version of us when watching LSU. I think they turn the ball over more than we do. But they want to play fast like us, they’re overly aggressive defensively, and they rebound the offensive glass really well.

We’re going to have problems with keeping Waters out of the paint and stopping his penetration, and their three big guys are a matchup nightmare for us. But I also think we present our own problems to them with our defense and shooting abilities. Should be a good game. Honestly, I’m not expecting us to win, but I think we can. And it would be a really good win if we could pull it off.

Biggest issue I’ve seen with LSU is they are jarringly inconsistent. They’ll have a 2 minute stretch where they look like a top 10 team with a lottery pick and good guards. They are all over the glass and physical. Then they get lazy, lose focuse and float around for the next 12 minutes.

Survive their brief spells of good play, punish them when Reid starts floating outside and they aren’t crashing the glass as hard.

Is one of their guys injured? They basically only played 7 guys last night in an overtime game, and their two bigs played a ton of minutes. Would be nice if the Boogs could establish Austin early and get one of bigs in foul trouble early

I did a quick scout last night. I’m sure Steven is all over this but Tremont wants to get to his right every time and MSU inexplicably let him. On the rare occasion they didn’t it was a TO or a brick.

Naz thinks he’s a guard but he’s got a lot of bumbling oaf in his game as well. Don’t even need to check him that hard just enough for him to feel uncomfortable.

They rebound like crazy so definitely sticking with the notion we will need our more physical guys to step up and play more.

Not sure. I think they just have a 7-man rotation and will bring on an 8th if they have foul trouble. I think that’s what happened last night.

Speaking of, I thought it was bizarre that Waters picked up his fourth foul with about 5:00 to go, and Miss St never seemed to make an effort to target him and make him defend late in the game.

Agreed on not going after Waters. He didn't really slow down his intensity, I feel like they could have gotten him out of the game. They probably win if they get him out.

He fouls like crazy for a PG. Leads the SEC maybe the country in steals. Would be big if Jared could force him into an offensive foul or 2.

The degree to which we took this wannabe Jared out of his game was one of the highlights of the year.

Can't figure out if I'm more excited or nervous about this tilt coming up. Feel like if we can pull it off, we are a lay down to rip off 7 straight conference games in a row giving us some MO going into Rupp. This thing can easily get back to what expectations were for the Boogs going into this rugged SEC schedule.

Honestly, we need a Q1 win badly. Haven’t had one since November against Washington. We’re playing well right now. We need this W. We’re 7-6 in Q1 and Q2 games, and we have 5 Q1 games and 4 Q2 games remaining. Need to win 2-3 of those Q1s and all of the Q2 games.

I’m a little more optimistic. About a month ago I said I’d rather finish 22-3 than to start 22-3. Start with our game at TA&M and that’s how we’ll finish. That win plus 12 straight to end the year, 3 in the SECT and 6 in the Big Dance for a 22-3 end to the first of several Bruce/Boogs Natty seasons.

that’s exactly where I’m at... win this one and I think we’re on a 7 game streak heading to Rupp, and win or lose there, we’re at worst 10 for our last 11 and prime to delittle the ugly out of those trash bums from Knoxville on Senior Night

a win Saturday and 24-7 (13-5) heading into the SEC tourney as the #3 seed and one of the hottest teams in the country - is not an unrealistic possibility... it’s an unlikely, best case scenario - but doable

I need this W to pump my Boog tank to the max for the stretch run

It would be nice if Washington kept winning. They're at 18-4 and 34th in KenPom right now. Pac12 is trash, but they can work there way into the top 30. Same with UF, they're at 37th so it would be nice if they would finish strong the rest of the way in the SEC. They could easily move into the top 30 with all the opportunities they will have for good wins. As you noted though, the most important thing is we win some of the quad 1 games left on our schedule. Go 3-2 in our remaining 5 quad 1 games and we will be in good shape for seeding provided we take care of the other teams.

I was present for that ass beating. We thrashed the F out of them. Reath had success because we had no one big enough to stop him in the post, but other than that we ran roughshod over them. If Wiley can give us solid minutes, I really like our chances given that they are a bad shooting team and we have previously demonstrated we know how to shut down Waters.

We could frustrate Waters especially since he is loose with the ball, but I don’t know how much we can use last year as an assurance we can do it this year.

This year will certainly be much tougher playing them at home. I do like the fact that we are one of the best teams at turning opponents over and Waters is the most turnover prone player in the league. Its going to be a very tough game though, Naz Reid is a monster when he is on and Ho and Mac will struggle with him. This is one of the games where Austin could be the difference between an L and W.

2 matchups determine this game....

Harper vs Waters - I know Bryce will probably be in Waters, just talking about which guard has a better game

Chuma vs Reid - this is a big one. The Oregon transfer down low will occupy our big, so Chuma is gonna have to man up big time

Can’t tell you how many times I have had to remind myself that I said all summer this wasn’t about total record or SEC regular season titles since we just got one...this was about peaking at the right time and being a good tournament team.

Last season was a blast, but the end left a bitter taste for me. We were half the team we had been by the time we got to the Dance. That sucked. Even if you go out at least go out playing good ball. If you run into a buzzsaw in the tourney that's just life. Having an injury ruin it was just brutal. I want to right that wrong.

Agreed. Losing DP and Wiley in the preseason left us with zero margin for error on depth. We were one injury away from being screwed all year. The combination of Bryce's injuries and Mac going out left us a shell of the dominant team we were in February. This year, there are only 2 guys on the roster we could not possibly afford to lose and that's Harper and Wiley, imo. Both bring something to the table no one else can do on our roster. Bryce is incredibly important as well, but we have other shooters who could step up and give us some of his scoring production. Hopefully this is a moot point and all of our guys will remain healthy the rest of the way. With Austin in the paint, we have no real weakness on D that can be exploited to an extent that most any team can hang with our offense when its clicking.

Don't disagree on Harper and Wiley, but if Harper or Brown has a bad night, it affects everything. Brown is key right now. He's really the only reason we even had a chance, and ended up should have beaten, UK. He and Harper drive how a game goes. Plus his defense is much better than Harper's IMO

Give us Wiley against UK and there is no question in my mind we beat them. Obviously if you took Brown away, that would make it tough, but our chances would be better without him than they were without Wiley, imo. With Wiley playing, I don't think they would have ever gotten out to a big lead. That's not a knock on Brown, its just that other teams with strong post offense exploited us when Wiley is absent. UK would have really struggled to score on us with Wiley playing even with their 2 having a career night. That makes me optimistic about our chances at Rupp as they have been a fairly poor shooting team all year. With Wiley at full strength, they will not be nearly as effective down low.

yep... Duke, NC St, Ole Miss, Miss State on the road and Kentucky at home we’re missed opportunities but ultimately meaningless

the South Carolina loss hurt but wasn’t a killer, although it looks worse with each passing day...

but the last 3 were the first must wins we’ve faced... we backed ourselves into a corner by blowing those early chances, but we responded well, so I’m hoping we can start to build something now

this Saturday is another one that’s not a “must win”, but we’ve gotta start winning these soon to feel good about our long term March performance
