OT: Need some folk music recs

Levon Helm / The Band

Another Day Another Time (Cohen brothers concert with music from Inside Llewyn Davis)

Grateful Dead (check out the Reckoning live album)

Trampled by Turtles

Band of Horses

And you can always go down a rabbit hole on Youtube with Crackerfarm videos from Avett Bros., etc. The new HBO movie, May it Last, is good, too, if you like the Avetts.

Good recs. And I think I’ve seen everyone of their crackerfarm videos. Doesn’t get any better in my eyes

don’t know how I missed this first time around... best concert I’ve ever been to was Avett’s at The Ryman the night before Halloween in 2010... watched CAM catch the TD pass against Ole Miss in the hotel getting ready - then watched Dyer run wild pregaming on Broadway - then hit the concert, entire crowd & band in full costumes... will never forget it

I’ve got a 16+ hour playlist called “Avett Adjace” that I just add random shit that I can’t really describe another way to... I should probably go through and cull some of the bullshit because it’s kinda grown out of control at this point...

a few that jump out are:

Seth’s early solo stuff as “Darling”... “The Mourning, The Silver, The Bell” the entire album is solid... very much in the vein of Mignonette & Four Thieves Gone... it was just before Emotionalism, a little rougher around the edges, but you can see all of it building to the next couple of Avett albums

Dan Auerbach “Keep it Hid”... Goin’ Home was in the movie Up In The Air, but the whole album is good... the live versions of Goin’ Home and Trouble Weighs A Ton from SiriusXM are my favorites

if you’ve watched the Crackerfarm videos you’ve seen Langhorne Slim, but he’s the most Avett guy I can think of... his voice can be an acquired taste, but I love it

Lucius - another great live show... their harmonies are beautiful... the whole Wildewoman album is good... not sure if they still do, but they used to end every show with the song in the last video... they’d take a mic stand out into the middle of the crowd and have a couple of acoustic guitars and invite the opening act and anyone else there that they knew to come out and all squeeze together around 1 mic in the middle of everyone... really cool to see live

I am in a music rut, and need some recs. I enjoy folk music, or something similar to the Avett Brothers sound, whichever genre you want to give them.

@ThrustMaxwell or anyone else
I remember when @ThrustMaxwell was here, do you?

you know what, you need to listed to the whole Reckoning album by the Grateful Dead. It's gotta be one of the best accoustic country/folk live albums of all time. Was just listening to it now and remembered this thread. Here are some of my all time favorite tracks. Dark Hollow is one of my favorite songs of all time

Which also reminds me, the first New Riders of the Purple Sage album is incrdible. Maybe doesn't classify as folk but it's peddle steel country with so much twang. I love it. I love this song so much

Seriously, “Reckoning” is one of the best folk albums ever. “Bird Song” is another classic
