Boogs vs Mizzou (not mens softball)

Last week, they made a change to their starting rotation. They bumped their Friday starter to Sunday and moved a bullpen guy into the Friday slot. But that bullpen guy is pretty solid. He went 7 IP allowing 1 run on 4 hits and struck out 7 while walking 1. From what I can tell, he's never started an SEC road game. So this will be a big spot for him. But he's a 3/4 slot lefty that doesn't throw particularly hard (88-90) and will probably finesse his way around the zone and our lineup. Need to win this first one tonight.

After that top half of the first inning, I got a little worried. Then Mize kinda settled in. Good win tonight.

I was thinking more like 60 but whatevs..
If I’m not mistaken, the score was 2-1 at the 60 pitch mark. Would’ve been dumb to pull him right there. Maybe he shouldn’t have started the 8th, but 7 innings of work is just fine.

0-0 after 1. Williams singled and Wright walked but couldn't get any runs across.

You’ll be singing a different tune when he’s missing starts late in our SEC slate once again

I understand what you’re saying. But last night is the wrong game to make that argument. His pitching was needed because the other guy was dealing and we only had a 1 run lead. He was on. If you had said 85-90 pitches, I’d agree. Where he should have been pulled was in earlier games with much bigger leads. You don’t risk a game like last night by pulling your ace with a one run lead (at the mark you’ve stated). At 60 pitches, no one knew we were going to crack it open like we did.

Agree with this. It’s completely inexplicable that he wasn’t. Now we likely won’t have a horse to ride during our inevitable late season plummet.

Daniel gets in a little trouble in the top of the 2nd, but works his way out. Big K to get out of the inning.

Jimmy also wants to host a regional but doesn't want to ride our ace. Not really worth responding to in baseball threads.

I suppose it’s too much to ask to be able to win some games without having your stud throw his arm off. Where’s the bullpen? I thought Butch was supposed to be some sort of pitching coach savant...

Whatever you say demeat.

How many days a week does Mize pitch? If he's only going once a week and a 100 pitches a week is to much, then his ass won't last in the majors.

When was the last time that we actually played a legit outfielder in LF and RF? Maybe I just see things differently but it’s always felt to me that we play a bunch of backup 1B type players out there or back up 2B in RF. This goofy ass #41 has booted every ground ball to him tonight. Hasn’t fielded anything cleanly.

Seriously? We have guys hurt. We missed an entire class with Son Jimmyway. We are on a good trajectory. Stupidity will continue but reality will prevail.
I get we still feel feelings about the raping of our roster from mean ole Sonny, but is 3 consecutive Top 10 recruiting classes not enough to make significant headway in the bullpen department, injuries notwithstanding?

1) you realize the 3rd top 10 class is currently in HS, right?

2) and Sonny's top 10 class (one webiste had them as that and I don't anyone else had them in the top 25) is pretty much gone

3) for someone who claims to have played college baseball (I believe you), I have always found it hard to understand why you have such a difficult time understanding the hole Butch was in when he came in with the roster he inherited and when he was hired

Lulz.....

Depending on how many pitches he’s thrown, should’ve sat his a$$!!

Yet Sunny was winning ball games in that ‘hole’ as you call it..

He went 13-17 in the SEC in his 2nd season and made it in the Regionals as a 3 seed. He didn't have the hole Butch did. Sonny ran off a lot of talent, including and entire class of Freshman that HE signed.

Regardless of your feelings on what type of Golloway coach was (I think he was a good coach), it doesn't change anything about the roster Butch inherited (and when he was hired).

That’s fair. But that’s also why you recruit. JUCO is loaded with players ready to come in and help.
