Boogs vs Mizzou (not mens softball)

We went to 11 regionals or beyond in 13 years under Baird from 1993-2005. That’s as much sustained success as we’ve had in baseball in any one period, but I’d consider that sustained.
This reads like a bio of Sunny Golloway’s tenure at Oklahoma...

It really all boils down to how much I love being right and rubbing it into cookie’s face..

Lol. Not going to lie. You have had me laughing pretty hard tonight more than normal. Your Schtick has been sillier than ever tonight

I would say by a lot based on the improvement from year 1 to year 2 for both (taking out the situations they walked into). You would too if this was football (or any other sport and this wasn't about Sonny)
So what does it mean when we regress in year 3? Are you going to throw this entire line of argument in the can or blame it on Sunny or our schedule?

Regress? I think we will end up as a #1 or #2 seed in a regional. In line or better than last year.

I don't put all blame on anything that goes wrong on Sonny. No one should. But to act like some of our issues we're not caused because of the roster Sonny left is just comical.

Again, you’re using vague shit like “program health” and not basing it off of wins and losses because you’re comparing a “nice guy” current HC with no resume’ to speak of to a proven, seasoned former HC who has competed for and won championships at multiple schools before his time at Auburn.

You THINK Butch is a good head coach, though you can’t point to any meaningful metric. And although you say you believe Sunny is a good coach too, he doesn’t really need you to say that... he’s PROVEN it by actually winning shit that matters over many seasons in his career.

So you’re saying we’ll win at least 16 games in conference this year? I mean, that is the stick with which you chose to measure success ITT...

SG had sustained success at Oklahoma. Did someone say he didn't?
Oh I’m sorry, I thought we were discussing program health.

Programs are typically healthier in the long run when led by proven winners, and not “nice guy/Auburn Men” types with zero HC resume’.

I think Butch is a good coach after the job he did last year ( and through this year so far).

I think Sonny was a very good coach at Oklahoma. But he didn't do at Auburn want he did at Oklahoma. Could he have turned us into that? No one can answer than with any certainty, but I don't think he would have (based on how things were when he left).

But you yourself has talked highly of Butch

There isn't anything to answer. Sonny doesn't have a year 3 to compare to

Talking highly of Butch doesn’t mean I believe he’s in the same stratosphere as Golloway, or that I believe he will win more than SG will/would have.

Anyone who thinks Butch is the better coach at this point though is simply focusing on their personalities and not their respective wins/losses/accomplishments... which is all that really matters.

No one can argue that Sonny's career acoomplishements don't dwarf Butch's as it stands today. Not even close.

But you act like that means it 100% means that he was going to have that same success here at Auburn. It doesn't. Now you can think it does and would. I can't tell you your opinion is wrong on this. It's your opinion

Yeah I doubt we would’ve ever let him get rid of all the sissy boys and turn the rest into the hard-nosed mentally tough guys that he needed to be successful with his style of coaching.

Back to the game last night, I continue to be encouraged by Daniel Davis. He threw really well, that 2nd run coming on a damned dropped fly ball with 2 outs. We have to get more consistent at the plate though, but Plassmeyer (sp?) is really good.

We have 2 guys hitting over .250 in SEC play, Jarvis and Holland. Conor Davis, Venter, Williams, and Julien are all hitting below .200 in SEC play. That’s probably part of the reason why Ingram got the start last night. No one is really hitting well. Davis Daniel pitched his ass off last night and should’ve been rewarded, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Malczewski was also very good.

The only thing I’d like to see Butch do is mix up the lineup. Not as punishment or sign of demotion but as a way to free guys up from their supposed roles within the framework of the lineup. Something like this:

Estes
Holland
Jarvis
Williams
Wright
Julien
Venter
Johnson/Davis
Anthony

Put them in spots that don’t demand certain things from a production standpoint and see if it helps free up some of our swings. I’m a big believer in switching things up when you’re struggling to try and break a drought.

Yea, the timely hitting has not been there consistently in SEC play.

Very much so. I wish I could find our BA with RISP against SEC opponents. Haven’t been able to find it anywhere. It feels like we’re stranding guys at second and third at a pretty high frequency right now. The AB that is killing us is the no-out or 1-our AB that is getting no production. We’re getting guys on but having a bad at bat that basically ends the threat.

Bet Sunny would find a way to manufacture a few runs...

Brett Wright’s first inning at bat is a perfect example of the poor at bats we’re having when getting runners in scoring position. Two straight walks, pitcher hasn’t thrown a strike in 6 pitches, and he swings and pops up the first pitch he sees. Ingram did the same thing last night in a big spot late.

Sounds like we’re not doing a very good job of coaching them up as to what is acceptable in these situations...

Well.

Burns gives up 1st hit of the game with 2 out in top of the 5th and it's a grand slam. Down 4-0

Yikes. Seems the “Baseball 101” type shit is still plaguing our beloved Fighting Butches.
I don't really watch baseball anymore or pay any attention to college/boog baseball much at all so I'm not gonna get involved with the Butch Sonny discussion. But I did watch that series with FSU last season and letting a fly ball go over the CF's head like that last year to lose that game was coach pitch level stupid. Boogs should've won that series.

I like Butch, but he blew that one for sure. No excuse to not be playing in the Supers last year

I like that Butch is a “pitching and defense first” minded HC, as I think that’s the correct approach in college baseball to make deep postseason runs. But if you’re gonna play that way, you have to have a fantastic D and be willing to approach games with a “manufacture runs” mindset at the plate. He doesn’t seem to understand that at all and our defense just isn’t very good.
